Your Texas Rangers Are the Best Slow-Pitch Softball Team in the Majors

Categories: Texas Rangers

Home Run.jpg
Well, it seems like it.

If you're counting at home -- and I know you are -- after last night's 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners, that's 13 homers in 32 innings for the Rangers. At this rate they'll ... man I'm really bad at math be really hard to beat.

You know things are going right when Ichiro Suzuki plays a two-out liner off the heel of his glove for an error and the next batter, Julio Borbon, makes him pay with a two-run triple. And when in doubt, hit it out.

Elvis Andrus had 18 extra-base hits all last season. He already has four in 2011, including a first-inning homer last night that was his first in 705 at-bats. Teammates greeted the rare occasion with about five seconds of silence and indifference in the dugout before bursting into celebration.

After Cruz' fourth blast in as many games, the Rangers reacted in awe.

I watched Cruz in Surprise, Arizona and he was struggling. Mightily. Looked as if he'd opened his open stance even more than in 2010 and was having trouble driving the outside pitch. During spring training he hit only one homer in 62 at-bats.

And last night he hit another homer, becoming the first player in American League history and only the third player all-time to start the season 4 for 4. The others: Willie Mays ('71) and Mark McGwire ('98).

Oh, by the way, the Rangers are 4-0 for the first time since starting 7-0 in '96.

Nice work on television tonight, Richie. You've come a long way since your first appearance. Hopefully you were able to see Alexi Ogando while you were in the studio. Hopefully you can't see the bullpen potentially throwing it all away.

Of course, here is the catch 22 about your television appearance. If I don't mention the ridiculous explosion of material at the end of your sleeves, you'll think it's acceptable to dress like that. If I do mention it, you'll refer to me on air as "the lifeless commenter on my blog who thinks I'm a douche for dressing outside the box..."

Well, I've done it. Scruffy is dead. The spirit of Scruffy is alive and well in Disqus form.

Can we please get a moment of silence for my alter-ego? No yelling konichiwa, please. Or taking calls from Paul.

Was there last night. The ball hit at Suzuki was a tough play. Not sure if it was an error or not. Those sinking line drives hit a million miles and hour at your knees are tough to catch and he did the best he could. The new scoreboard looks great--they keep the info on there pretty simple so it's easy to see the stats and score and lineups. Well done Rangers!

I was at the game last night, so I didn't hear it myself, but I was reading comments at the LSB (Lone Star Ball) blog, and.....get this:

Evidently John Rhadigan did not know that there is no RBI on a double play. Seriously. Tom Grieve had to explain it to him. What the hell is he doing announcing Major League baseball games? Please fire him and put him out of his misery.

Did anybody else see ESPN's first power rankings of the season?

http://espn.go.com/mlb/powerra...

How the hell can you rank the Wankees first? The Rangers come in at number 3 after the most impressive start in all of baseball (in my opinion). Freaking east coast bias.

You got your last post in at 11 again RW...good job! Now go take a nap until it's time for your show to begin.

The team's silent treatment to Elvis was great, but not as great as Justin Morneau being greeted in the dugout... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Also, you never posted your predictions for this season and when you announced them on the radio, you did it during the Ranger's opener....when the majority of the metroplex was watching the game, not listening to your show. Are you trying to keep quiet about your picks, so we don't give you shit when they are all wrong? Quit being a pussy and let us know.

I'm so glad baseball is back. A couple of things: - How about that crowd on a chilly, windy, Monday schoolnight? Granted it was the replica ring night, but still an impressive showing.- The whole Elvis HR reaction was great, from Wash cheering and flashing his big Joker grin, Elvis doing what looked like a spin of his helmet or a roll down the clubhouse hallway, and then the dogpile from the guys. Looks like they're taking up the head rub as a cheer to needle Beltre.- Yorvit Torrealba looks like the most fun teammate ever.- I want to have Nellie Cruz's baby.- Eff all the kergo's and their Red Sox.

He called us lifeless? I don't think that wearing holey jeans is really dressing outside the box. I see it all the time and it's always someone 'douchey'. Greggo is someone that dresses outside the box. He seems to have his own unique style that I don't see anywhere else.

Where was he on tv? I was watching Pit Boss and didn't notice him amongst the other midgets.

It's not some sort of rash. It's some sort of herpes virus. Turns out that wasn't an olive branch Richie extended me.

Yeah, it's true. Just one of the many painful to watch moments in the John Rhadigan experiment.

I haven't heard anyone in the media say anything critical about the poor job he has done...guess it's just the media protecting their own?

There's been less than 5 games played. October is a long time away. Everyone quit overreacting...reminds me of all the "MAVS ARE THE BEST IN THE NBA!!!" talk late last year. The Rangers are where they should be until they can prove they can keep up with the elites consistently.

fuck ESPN, bunch of East coast douchefuckwads, Their reason is bc NY and Phi combined for 44, jeezus effing christ, the Rangers out scored, out hit, out slugged out played both of them yet we are 3rd and Boston is 7th and KC who went 3-1 against the Angels is 26th. If we use stats like this website, http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/p... then we get a clearly objective view. FU NY

For RW's Rangers prediction, see last Friday's Whitt's End. He predicted a second place finish to the Angels. He, like many other prognosticators, would like a do over I'm sure.

He was on 21. They used to have him on there on The Show with Gina Miller around 8:30 once a week, and they brought him back this week.

They had Greggo on a few times. He looks into the wrong cameras, bobs his head around, wears hats, lots of purple, and basically does all the other crazy stuff you'd expect if you put Greggo in front of a camera. He's like a child getting the chance to play with things he knows he shouldn't be touching.

Hmm, that last line can really be interpreted the wrong way.

TheRealDirtyP1
TheRealDirtyP1

I used to enjoy coming to this blog to read someone that would discuss media in the market outside of Barry Horn. The Ticket protects Rhads because he's a big P1, ESPN because the broadcast the games, and the Fan because......obviously Josh can't, but I'm sure he's rubbing his hands saying WTF, did I seriously get fired for this guy?

No, but atleast on that day they had a good excuse why people weren't listening.

So he picked them to miss the playoffs or did he pick them as his wildcard? Who does he have in the World Series?

It is just weird that he always makes his predictions widely known, but this time he is not making it a big thing. I think he realizes now how much he sucks at it and he is scared to be too wrong. I'm not real sure.

If you are going to bash Richie the least you can do is spell his name correctly. You're just giving him ammo to attack you with on Rage.

Richie and Greggo talked about how bad he was on Rage yesterday. I heard most of it and then Sybil jumped in and I had to abandon ship. They both agreed that he was awful.Greggo thinks he might improve with experience but he also thinks the same of Richie. We see how thats working out. Richie needs to quit trying so hard and the Rangers need someone with a personality and knowledge of baseball.
