Rangers Finish Perfect Homestand, With Help From Their Shiny New Toy

The weather. The ring ceremony. The attendance. And oh, by the way, the results.

When the Rangers beat reigning AL Cy Young winner Felix Hernandez 7-3 yesterday, it capped the perfect start to their encore season. They're now 6-0, joining the Cincinnati Reds as the only undefeated teams in baseball.

Texas has hit and pitched -- and, on Wednesday, boy did it field.

Despite C.J. Wilson battling a tight hamstring and lacking his best stuff, the Rangers scratched out a 4-3 lead into the 8th. Seattle's Milton Bradley hit a shot down the third-base line off of reliever Arthur Rhodes that looked like a double.

And then we remembered why, during spring training, GM Jon Daniels called the Rangers' left side of the infield the best in baseball.

Guarding the line for just this ball, third baseman Adrian Beltre made a high backhand stop of the scorcher, kept his balance and fired across the infield. At the other end, first baseman Mitch Moreland stretched and made a deft one-hop scoop to nab Bradley by a step.

Let's face it: A year ago, with Michael Young at third, Bradley would've been standing on second. Instead Rhodes breezed through a scoreless 8th, the Rangers added three insurance runs and Darren O'Day pitched a perfect 9th.

The best start in Rangers' history -- 7-0 in '96 -- will be threatened Friday when they play their first road game of the season at Baltimore, where something called Zach Britton will be on the mound.

Yeah, he is now licking his wounds. 0-3 didn't do it, but 0-6 start for the best team in baseball is very disturbing.

I think The HardLine said it was Dan O'Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe, but I could be wrong.

Was a beautiful day at the old ball park yesterday, just walked up for tickets...waited in line from 12:45 til 2:00 oclock..question for Nolan: If theres 4-5 thousand people waiting in line to purchase walkups..why was there only 5 tellers? Y'all have 45 teller windows, and only 5 were open...I finally got in during the bottom of the third, had (2) dollar dogs and a couple of beeras..and the Redshoes stayed undefeated..other than the wait in the ticket line, all was right with the world. 25000 out there for a day game, damn good crowd for a damn goood team. Stay hard Rangers.

From the Rangers Blog on ESPN Dallas:

Team officials said there was a walkup of 5,000 at the game and some of the ticket sellers were not at the ballpark today because that is their second job and when there's a day game in the middle of the week, it's reduces the amount of people manning the ticket booths.

Welp, someone was damn sure aware of the situation because there was tons of security guards over there standing around..can't believe out of the hundreds of people that work for the Rangers, there was only 5 people that could operate a ticket machine. The old gal that waited on me wasn't aware they even offered a standing room ticket (I'm cheap, and I didn't stand). It happened afew years back too, same deal..early season day game, walked up..waited for thirty minutes..said to hell with it, drove to the house and watched it there with cheap beer and better foodstuffs. But now, I live about an hour and 15 minutes from the Temple, and waited it out.

Thats where we will miss Greenburg, if all else had failed, he would have either grabbed some season ticket sales guys out of the office or manned one himself. And Im sure he also would have taken calls and responded to emails about this. Im afraid that such things wont happen with the Nolan Show

Josh's broken records
Josh's broken records

That was pretty much my point Mr. Merkin...Why didn't Nolan or whomever start dragging folks out of the offices and have them in the ticket booths..when my employee are sickly or on vacation, I do their jobs. Didn't figure on 5000 other dumbasses walking up like me, or I would of will-called it.

Yo WBS, next you want walk up, just order online, or call the b.o. if you want specific seat and will call them. you can do that up to 2 hrs before the game,

Scruffygeist

Gagreed. Order off the team site and use the automated kiosks to pick up your ticket. Easier than Feliz breaking 90 on the gun.

With all due respect to the greatness of JD, I would tap the breaks a bit on best left side until Beltre's offensive numbers settle in.

The Mets' Wright and Reyes are not too shabby on the left side.

In other news, Zach Britton looks promising. He will get his best test so far tomorrow night pitching in the tight confines of Camden Yards for the first time against this Ranger lineup.

I expect 3 Rangers home runs tomorrow. Colby gives up 4 runs but we win 8-4.

Where is Greggo?

beats me, but the Fan is whipping my ass with Greggo commercials. I've heard 2 today so far, so I hope for them it's not major.

While that's the question on most peoples' minds, Mike Snyder is still concerned regarding the whereabouts of one N. Scruggs...

First, Weren't you the dude who said no daily fantasy updates...and you are the one posting shit about it everyday. pretty funny.

Second, You guys gave me shit for 'giving up' in the draft, but I am only 1 point out of first place. Does that make me really good or you guys really shitty?

TheRealDirtyP1

You know, all I do is give to this blog, and while I'm still paying attention to it, I might as well post. I'm expecting a strong comeback when 3 of my players are off of the DL. I'm impressed, sitting at #3 today, good job. I'm last because my front office is like the Rangers. I've got a shitload of hitting, and a pitching staff that isn't in the top 10 in the league. I'm destined for mediocrity if I'm lucky.

this is my first roto league, so my learning curve is high right now. I was wondering why I was the only person stockpiling SP's. Had an 11 pt jump yesterday. 50's, here I come!!!

and it sure doesnt take much to free fall, geez. Alas, i have not scoured the FA and wavier wire like a few people in the league. Ive never played roto, so I have no idea if its a good idea to add/drop daily or hang onto to guys for the long haul. Guess this is my learning year for roto style leagues

Yes, the Rangers are greatness right now. I like them winning every game so much, I think I may be a little depressed when they actually lose one...which will realistically be this weekend sometime.

It was so nice getting to hear Nadel call the game instead of seeing that trainwreck on FSSW. I think I may hate Dana Larson on the pre/post game more than I hate Rhadigan calling the games. She is so corny and her voice irritates the hell out of me. I want to punch her in the face when she talks. I wish I could be in charge of programming on FSSW about as much as I do for the Fan. I know I could make them both so much better. But don't we all think we would make great program directors?

Scruffygeist
Scruffygeist

A snow monkey could probably program both of those better. I'm already tired of going to Knox 14 times a game.

And I'm highly amused that the recent Fail promos highlight Greggo. And can easily be edited to refer to any cohost he may have...

Yes, how could I forget about that idiot Knox? Emily Jones does nothing for me either.

Rnagers are being slighted by all non Texas sports outlets. Last night Im watching MLB network. They show the Reds higlights, and Ripken declares them the best team in baseball, Baines say really, and Ripken says yeah they are undefeated right and baines says, true, they are the only undefeated team left since Baltimore lost. Im like WTF morons, pay attention. whast even more funny is 2 highlights later they are showing the Rangers highlights, the lead guy mentions the Rangers stay undefeated and no one says anything. Oh well, we know haw badass the Red shoes are. I have a feeling we will be 9-0 after the O's series

Mishon
Mishon

Yeah, its irritating. On Baseball Tonight last night, the lead story was the Red Sox losing 5 in a row. How is a team that is sucking worthy of more/better coverage than a team that is playing great and is still undefeated? I guess that is how the rest of the country feels during football season when no matter their record, the Cowboys get most of the coverage.
