Dennis Rodman = Hall of Fame. Wait, Is It Still April 1?

Dennis Rodman.jpg
When Dennis Rodman graduated South Oak Cliff High School he was 5-foot-8 and he'd never really played organized basketball. Years later he wore a wedding dress to marry himself. And he was once suspended for kicking a photographer in the crotch.

Throw in two Defensive Player of the Year awards, five championship rings, countless tattoos and, voila, Basketball Hall of Fame.

Also part of the 2011 class: coach Tex Winter (innovator of the triangle offense), long-time NBA and ABA star Artis Gilmore, original Dream Team member Chris Mullin, former Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis, Philadelphia University's Herb Magee, Olympic gold medalist Teresa Edwards and...oh, forget it.

Another year without former Mavericks coaches Dick Motta and Don Nelson and I'll stand by this point ...

Basketball's is by far the lamest of all of the major sports' Halls of Fame.

Arvydas Sabonis? Really?!

Hang your head in shame, James Naismith.

It's players like Mr. Rodman that make the game fun.

I can't believe I found this article on google in search of his latest interview.

What a dumb, bias writer.

Was it you he kicked in the nuts, or your boyfriend? I'm confused. I'm equally perplexed that you would mention his wedding dress scenario, tattoos, piercings, etc. to each his own. One of the best rebounders of all time, with rings to prove it, enough said.

I have heard that "Guy V. Lewis supposedly can't get in because he's just a regional candidate"

Coogs v UCLA in the 'dome = nationalCoogs v Louisville = world wide dunkfestCoogs v NC State = painful, but a legendary game

Nationally and Internationally known Coogs: E, Duck, Akeem, Clyde, Sweet Lou, Otis.

And don't claim that Guy V "just rolled the ball out on the court". He recruited Black players when the SWC would not dare. He recruited an unknown skinny African and gave him skills to be an all-time great.

Sure, Herb McGee has 922 Division II wins. That is remarkable.Guy V = 592 Division I wins with 1 team, 5 Final Four appearances. Check the list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N...

Oh yeah, HOF Tex Winter = 486 Division I wins with 5 teams, 2 Final Four appearances. And Tex "invented" the Triangle Offense which enabled Michael Jordan to become a great player. (laugh)

Any basketball HOF that does not include Guy V Lewis is lame.

Richie I have to strongly disagree on this. Rodman was THE best rebounder in the history of the NBA and one of the best defenders arguably in the game. He revolutionized how players today play defense (I know may seem like a stretch, kindof like your blog) We need more Rodman's in the game today, He didn't put up M.J or Lebron type numbers on offense, which in the eyes of some may be lame. He is crazy-yes. Does his off the court actions cloud up his achievements on the field? Yes. But if we are going down that road, you could make the same argument with Irvin and L.T on the football field. The Hall is about achievement on the court, not off.

P.S. Speaking of lame, your radio show.....

Well Considering its not the NBA hall of Fame but rather the basketball hall of fame, covering all levels and gender of basketball, Id say not too bad of a list. For a sport where the roster holds 11 guys, you dont really have the amount of players to choose from that baseball and football and hockey have so they have to do it this way. and if anyone including you says his offense sucks, well Dirk cant play D for shit so he shouldnt be in either then

Any idea why the NBA doesn't have their own Hall of Fame? Kind of weird if you ask me.

I am seriously starting to think that you take the unpopular opinion on every issue, just to get a rise out of people.

He was a weirdo and occasionally an ass, but a damn good basketball player. A no doubt HOFer.

Junior Miller has already made a indisputable case for Rodman in the Hall. The guy was a lockdown defender against any opponent of any size and had ridiculous rebounding numbers that make Kevin Love's look pedestrian.

Just because he's a crap interview and a really odd dude doesn't mean he's not worthy of enshrinement.

The basketball hall is for the entire sport, not just the NBA. Judging by the quality of your posts this week, I'm guessing a Dez update is next on the agenda.

Ah, I love starting a blog that has a question in the title, never gets old friend!Rodman has 5 rings, how many do Motta and Nelson have? I'm never offended about a coach not going into the hall of fame, who gives an F? Rodman dominated as a defender and rebounder. Isn't there some stat that while he was on the floor, he got 25% of all rebounds? He could score, it wasn't part of his game that he was focused on. I'm still bitter about the debacle he had with my Spurs, the 95 team should have beaten the Rockets, but I won't deny what that guy could do for your team. He was 6'6, the only other person that size that could rebound like him was Barkley. Is it ok to put Barkley, who has no titles, in the HOF? Wait, is it April 5?

Yeah, because he single-handedly effed over the Spurs during his tenure there, when they were really poised to actually make a legitimate pre-Duncan title run, Rodman can go to hell for all I care.

But that being said, he's definitely a Hall of Famer.

Rodman was a transcendent rebounder and top tier defender (undersized at that) for three great teams over the better part of a decade. Smells like a HoFer to me. The only reason he's not in already is because he's also a transcendent weirdo and didn't play nice with the media gatekeepers.

From blogmaverick:

"The internet reporters who get paid , IMHO , are to the Mavs and any sports team, the least valuable of all media . I’m a firm believer that their interests are not only not aligned with sports teams like the Mavs, but in fact are diametrically opposed. They tend to look at the number of page views they get for any article as ‘their ratings”. More is better. Which in turn leads them to gear their work towards generating more pageviews."

You mean....like when a guy that runs a sports blog decides to exercise his advanced medicine skills, and says the reason Josh Hamilton has the sniffles, is because his body is broken down from years of drug use?

Nah, Richie would never make shit up to generate pageviews....
