Blazers 84, Mavericks 82: My Top 10 Observer-ations

Mavs-Soft.jpg

10. %$#@&*!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. I was there on April 6, 1997 when the Mavs set an NBA record with two points in the third quarter of a loss to the Lakers in The Forum. Those two points? Derek Harper free throws. But this 23-point monumental Mavs meltdown was even more embarrassing.

8. We can talk about Brandon Roy's constant ravaging of Dallas on isolation plays, but to me the biggest possession of the game came with the Mavs up 67-44 late in the third quarter. Instead of a simple bounce pass to a wide-open and cutting Peja Stojakovic that would've pushed the lead to 25, J.J. Barea got lazy and his half-assed hand-off was poked away by LaMarcus Aldridge, who scored on an alley-oop at the other end. Killer instinct, make way for a colossal comeback.

7. If the Mavs lose this series, head coach Rick Carlisle will be fired. If you need a reason, look no further than the fact the Mavs neither double-teamed Roy nor tried a zone defense to slow him down.

6. I was also reminded that the Mavs once upon a time, in 2002, lost a game to the Lakers that they led 66-36 in the third quarter and 88-61 entering the fourth. Never a fun Saturday night when you're accessing the "worst ever" files of your Mavs memories.

5. Be careful what you ask for. I urged Shawn Marion to join the series and he indeed stepped up with a 12-point, 11-rebound effort. He also had the game's biggest gaffe -- a foul of Roy on a 3-pointer that tied the game with a minute remaining.

4. By my math, after taking its 23-point lead Dallas attempted perimeter jump shots on 15 of its final 24 possessions. The two worst: Kidd's 23-footer that sailed about 25 feet and touched nothing but backboard, and Jason Terry's long 3-pointer with the game tied at 82 and still 11 seconds on the shot clock. Why?

3. Everything had to go right for the Blazers to rally, including and especially Roy's 3-pointer at the end of the third. It hit the front rim, back rim, front rim, back rim and then hung on the front rim for a full second before falling in. Remind anyone else of Tiger Woods' famous chip-in on the 16th at Augusta?

2. Let's face it, the Mavs let up with a 23-point lead. Offense. Defense. Coaching. Everything. And as we know, premature evacuation is never good.

1. Despite Saturday's collapse I'm sticking with Mavs in seven. But more than ever, I'm certain their post-season road ends in the second round.

Screw the NBA, the US chess championship is on!

While I'm not completely opposed to ref's fixing the series conspiracies, remember, in the 4th quarter, the Blazers shot 75% from the field. If they hadn't, they'd have lost. And the refs, for all the help they provided, can't help anyone shoot 75% from the field. A shred of defense would have gone a long way.

yes, the Mavs are choke artists, but the fix was in....again. I swore I would never watch the NBA again after the fixed 2006 finals. Well, I still watched, but without the long time fervor I'd always had. I should have seen that result coming. Made me sick to my stomach to watch. Fuck David Stern. Fuck the NBA.

RW, #4 and #3 are rhetorical questions right? You post "questions" for us/you to discuss, but I don't see your rebutle or agreement to a posters comment. Is that the way radio works also, post question then ignore. Got it.

I know a lot of people say it, and I have my doubts about how many actually carry through with it, but I am 100% seriously dedicated to not watching another Mavs game in this series. I'll look at the scores the next day to see how they did, and I can (perhaps) be persuaded to watch again if they make it to the second round, but I'm not putting myself through that kind of garbage again. I've got other things to do that aren't nearly as routinely bitterly disappointing.

I agree with Mr. phe, blow this thing up.it's been done since 2006 and nobody was kind enough to tell Cubes...send Dirk off to greener pastures..I don't know where, maybe Baaston or the Lakeshow (Lakers getting old, two 1st rounders and Artest..no lottery protection on the picks) ...give him a chance at a ring..only ring he'll get around here is a classy AL championship one with Ronny W on the side of it, from ebay.

Come on Richie. Have you forgotten how to count?

Seriously, how you could have proclaimed this series as "over" last week was entirely beyond me at the time. This team has shown no heart, and a basketball IQ of a 2nd grader, for far too long for them got the benefit of any doubt.

I am at the point where I'm ready for them to get bounced in the 1st round. Hell, I'm ready for them to get blown out in the next two games and just get it over with. This thing has needed a blow-up for years. Perhaps an epic fail this time around will make even Cuban realize he's got to clean it out...

With all that being said. Gosh, I sure hope RAGE has ANOTHER Colby Lewis segment today...you know...just like they did EVERY DAY last week.

Oh, by the way, did everyone know Colby Lewis missed a start because he was attending the birth of his child?

It's riveting radio, especially if they continue to say the same exact things over.....and over....and over....and over again.....

This team is done. No heart.

In true hack blogger fashion, you proclaimed the series to be over last week. Way to own up to that.

Only you do a Top 10 with only 9 points, 2 of which are barely-related looks back at games of yore. Is #9 with your olive branch?

You suck, Whitt. Mavs in the 4th quarter suck. RAGE ratings suck. Mark Lowe suck. You out-suck all that.

Send me a note in late June when another 9 month NBA season mercifully winds down. Game 5 tickets still available. What a surprise.

If the Mavs make it to the send round (big if), the way the other series are going they are no worse than any other team.

The Thunder is dominating. The Spurs probably aren't advancing, and the Lakers are struggling against the Hornets, who are without David West (WTF!).

Cobra Lewis will be struggling throuugh his post-partem tonight. RAGE will probably talk about it quite a bit..in between COOOOWWWWBBBOOOYYYS segments..you know their the home of the COOOWWWBBBOOOYYYS right?

Remember the Fan promos that said "Greggo is here to do GOOD radio"

When does everyone think he will start?

Scruffy, get a life.. every week I see your dumbass name on here spewing hate.. and constantly commenting on RAGE ratings.. you are the only loser who would pay attention to ratings.. if RAGE gets kicked out, so be it.. but it won't be because some idiot like you had nothing to do with their time but talk shit about a radio show you supposedly don't listen to anyways..

kergo

Are you a dumbass? He has ten observations, It's just that number 9 is not spaced down from number 10. Look thoroughly before you criticize. Jackass.

Kergie out.

are you also fake kergo, among other names? this is a new week - is Scruffy this week's target for you? I also sometimes get tired of the RW bashing, but I really think Richie brings on most of it himself and I'm sure he is capable of defending himself here if he were truly concerned with what any of us has to say. You come off looking much worse for the wear and have become more of a beatdown than the original RW bashing. Strategy fail.

Yep. You caught me. I'm the only one who ever mentions it. It wasn't in a string of joking comparisons, either. I need a life, so bad, because I got called out by someone on a blog who disagreed with me. Thank you for helping me see the light.

GDB, I appreciate it. I can't always bat a thousand. I do aim to have a better average than Dan Uggla, who is currently crapping up my fantasy roster. I do occasionally pull a Kinsler and pop one up in the infield.

And Harry, I laughed. Funny post, but it does reek of Rob M or Russell. Were they giving it to you good?

Wow, some kind of professional blogger here!? Each post? U would do that for me? Lol that's fine, while you're on your moms computer at home wasting away, fighting with strangers on a blog.. I wont be reading. You don't have to be a sage to know you are a waste of life. You see what I did there? I put my hairy balls in your mouth.. Thank your dad for me, he trained you well.

I enjoy your posts Scruffy. MOST OF THE TIME your posts along with Hamilton,TRDP,Rooster and Mishon have more thought and relevance than the stuff Richie posts here(especially after moving to pm drive). Plus they are funny. Don't let Armin or whoever it is from RAGE bother you, they have no idea how to accept criticism.

When a professional writer can't be bothered with something simple like spacing, he does suck. And so do the ratings. I think I'll try to fit that into every one of my posts now, just for you.

Of course, the person who tells someone else commenting on a blog to "get a life" twice is certainly a sage. I bow to your wisdom, sir. What's your IQ, 130 or so? You probably double RAGE's listener count. See what I did there? You're welcome.

You got called out because you post the same old tired shit on every blog.. "blah, blah, Richie sucks... and OMG your ratings are terrible, blah blah blah.." You really care so much about ratings? You need a life because I see you constantly coming on here to talk shit about some radio guy that doesn't care about your miserable life or your "string of joking comparisons".
