The Last Time the NFL Shut Down ...

Categories: NFL

It was different in 1987 because it was the players striking, not the owners locking out.

But still, it's always ugly in America without football. And 24 years ago was no different.

Any guesses to who Peter Jennings' "Person of the Week" might have been?

With likely no football to look forward to this year and after the Mavs annual first round bounce in the playoffs...what are you poor fucks going to do? We all know the Rangers are going to suck w/o me so there is no reason to head over to Arlington. It's going to be a loooooooonnnnnnnnggggggg 2011...all b/c they didn't want to give me that extra year. Suckers.

Wow, four comments, I'm glad I was busy yesterday. Besides, today I'm turning my wrath on people that think the recession is over. Let's see:

-Corporations are expected to make between 5 and 7 percent cuts in benefits this year-Commodities are up, and rising-Transportation costs are expected to rise, and climb steady, this month-Cost of goods are up (including food, which is expected to rise nearly 10% by May/same sales last year)-Gas (just look at the pump!)

Ok, this will trigger inflation, and send us spiraling back down to recession level economics.

Meanwhile, salaries are down atleast 10% for new hires, and we have college grads working in yogurt shops.

Have you really looked are the cable bill, car insurance bill? And sheeeeesh, forget about college for the kids, you'd have to mortgage your soul!

My thing is this; we were great when we were a country where most of us were doing well, not 10% doing great, and 90% barely making it.......the middle class is dying in this country. People fought in wars to make this country an "ideal" society. Ahhhh, THE AMERICAN DREAM. Hunter S. Thompson was right; you can take a drive out to the SW desert and see where the giant wave (The American Ideal) crested.

We all know you went to Philly because you couldn't handle the pressure of being the goto starter so's you can sit in the shadow of Halladay. Have fun warming the pine on opening day there, ace.

The problem is we keep trying to bring the top down instead of the bottom up.

My guess for Person of the Week is Ryan White.
