Dez Bryant Intent on Keeping It Real: The Latest Installment(s) in a Continuing Series

Categories: Dallas Cowboys

Dez Bryant Pendant.jpg
Dez Bryant's customized pendant, part of the stuff he allegedly hasn't paid for
Lying to the NCAA while at Oklahoma State.

Bucking NFL tradition and not carrying Roy Williams' shoulder pads.

Blaming the media.

Cutting in line at The Apple Store.

Being, according to Dallas police, involved in a "major disturbance" at P.F. Chang's.

Not knowing the Dallas Cowboys' playbook.

Getting ticketed for parking in a fire lane.

Cursing an off-duty police officer working security.

Tweeting things like, on March 12, "Fuck!!!!" for no apparent reason and then, on March 15, "Have anyone seen Due Date?"

Bracing for the impending NFL lockout by spending $267,000 on custom jewelry. Oh wait, there's more news today, allegedly spending another $293,000 in jewelry and $12,350 worth of tickets to sporting events.

And now -- in case you haven't yet detected a pattern of behavior that vacillates in the danger zone between immaturity, ignorance and arrogance -- Dez Bryant is so keeping it real that he's been accused of simply not paying for products he agreed to buy.

In most cultures, that would be called stealing. Right?

He's being sued for his actions. Twice.

I'm trying to remember how I behaved at 23 and wonder how those immature actions would've surely escalated with millions of dollars in my pocket and almost endless free time on my hands. But, no matter your background, future, social status, profession or income level, agreeing to buy shit and then not paying for it just ain't right. Simple. No excuses.

At this point Bryant's advisor David Wells and attorney Royce West have gone silent. Not good.

On March 25th Bryant Tweeted "To all my fans I apologize for what's been going on...the situation is behind me..moving forward to this upcoming year..."

I'm thinking that won't be his last apology.

As Deion once sang (and became immortalied in drop form), the downfall of Dez is going to be "SILLLLLLLLLLLLVERRRRRRRRRR AND GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD."

At least fornicating doesn't seem to be his drug.

I can't wait to see how this plays out. How many more shenanigans will it take before Jerry dumps him. I'm betting on the over in this case. He's Jerry's baby. This is going to be more entertaining than the actual playing of football! I do feel a tinge of sympathy for the guy because he's apparently not smart enough to listen to any advice. If he isn't already, he'll be broke 15 minutes after his career is over.

Dez was paid $2.8 mil last year and so far his jewelry tab is now running about $800 thou. Take 35% from the 2.8 for taxes and he's left with slightly south of $2 mil. And he spends almost half on bling? Yes, Dez, it's about to get real.

Maybe he needs that pendant in case he forgets his name or number. 250 grand would have been better spent on learning to speak English correctly. It comes in handy around these parts.

Who wants to take a bet, 24, 25 or 26yrs old that Dez files for bankruptcy and Carraway gives him a key to the city?

wow!!

nothin new in Big D!

we had to repo a receivers escalade from the players parking lot a few years ago. his mama had to come pay his bill, he wouldn't even show. then he got cut by the team!!

when walker was with the mavs, after trying everything to get payment for $77,000, we had to email mark cuban then we got paid. bottom line, no more credit for athletes.

when i shop at your store, i am expected to pay at the time i receive goods or services.

you would think there are better things to spend your money on. like you could walk down any street and help out homeless people since the government sends help to other countries instead of helping people in their own back yard. i mean japan is excluded because they need major help right now . this is a thought for you.

It's his fault but I also blame the fans of the Dallas Cowboys. Listening to this on Rage yesterday and Richie reading fan texts made me glad I am not a Cowboys fan. They had nothing but excuses and race cards. What is Dez supposed to think when some of his fans are is stupid as he is and think he can do whatever he wants as long as he is WINNING on the field. Apparantely in Dallas you can rape, murder and steal as long you catch that football on Sunday.

Like I have said before...Dez Bryant is an idiot, but I feel for him b/c I don't think it is his fault he is the way he is. It seems to me he was born into a bad situation. His mom was probably too busy selling crack around Lufkin than to be a good parent to little Dez...and it is showing its consequences of that now. I hope he does get someone to help him with his finances quickly. I would hate to see him become a rags to riches back to rags story, but it is looking like that may be a likely ending.

Ok, I posthumously take back my remarks about the sagging pants issue not being a problem. Obviously I was wrong, this kid needs to grow up fast. I did say that he would be broke within two years of his career being over. I want to make an addendum to that: if someone doesn't intervene he will be broke before his career is over.

I'm starting to think perhaps Dez isn't the sharpest tool in the shed?

I'm not saying any of what he's done is right, but at 23 and with the fame and money, how many of us would've done something equally as puzzling? It's a big deal, sure..but not a dire situation at all.

Nice post, Richie. Seriously.

The dude's hamster fell off but the wheel is still spinning. I hope he grows up real fast before his keeping it real involves guns, cars, fights, or otherwise life-threatening or violent, avoidable crap.

Dez-get a frigging clue, dude. It doesn't matter what your legs and hands can do if your brain spits the bit.

Don't forget his agent gets a cut, at least 10%.

Dwiane and Dez should start a rap duo, and call it Arthur & Archie.....then Dez can wear his shiny 88, and Dwaine can wear a key around his neck.

What a dirty liberal thing to say.

HtP:

Somehow it is the Cowboys fans who are responsible for a string of horrible financial decisions going back to Okie State? This began with having a paid Advisor/ Baby Sitter who owns the city's largest bail bonds business, rather than hiring a real Financial Planner, Good riddance to DB (dual meaning) Jerry should have got him more help, he will not have a penny to his name post football.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt this is just schtick and you're not really this stupid....

the car he parked in the fire lane is a 2 door Bentley...just saying.

Just imagine what happens if he ever gets to that really good contract. Every incident shaves off about $1mil or more on his next contract.

I'll start out by saying I don't think any of the things Dez has done are that serious. Stupid, but not serious.

Now that is out of the way, being 23 doesn't excuse the guy for being an idiot, and I think people should just f'ing STOP using giving him and every other professional athelete behaving badly that excuse. Most 23 year olds I have hired, or have been around, are very responsible adults.

This is what it is....a grown-ass man being an imbecile.

Herbert the pervert

It was a joke. I was making fun of the fans who condone and basically support this kind of behavior because he plays good on sunday. Maybe you should ask your son Larry to explain it to you since you didn't get it or bother to read how its schtick.

Herbert the pervert

It is schtick but the stuff about the fan texts is real. Just ask Richie if you don't believe me, I had to stop and facepalm.

I wonder if that Bentley is next on the list of items to be repossessed.

"Most 23 year olds.." Not all. Maybe Dez would be one of those that didn't. When I was 23, I was still acting a fool. Not as much as when I was 18, 19 or 20, but I was still doing it. Sometimes it takes others a little longer to figure things out and mature.

But I'm not going to debate this with you. You have a way of always being right or assuming we're kids on dad's computer. Love you, though.
