March Madness in Dallas: Has It Really Been 25 Years?

Categories: March Madness

Short shorts. Skinny players. No 3-point line. Jay Bilas at Duke instead of ESPN.

A lot was different in college basketball the last - and only - time the Final Four descended upon Dallas. (College basketball's March Madness will climax in Cowboys Stadium in 2014). In 1986 the stage was an old relic we once called Reunion Arena and the star was a Louisville freshman named Pervis Ellison.

When the Final Four visits Houston next month only one thing will likely be recognizable from 25 years ago:

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Richie, do you need me to educate you on UFC 128 before you talk about it on the air? Your on-air pronunciation of Mauricio Rua was...not good.

Holy crud, I've been on spring break with the Kerg kids, and I look up and my buddy (whom I cannot mention) is talking UFC, and I read a story about college basketball. Utter timewaste.

Dear Dudes, Go hiking. Go to the library. Go outside. Live a life. My wife is right..............March madness is as contrived as fake holidays (Valentines Day, etc.).

ps-Read the story about John Wells/West Texas on the New York Times website; it is awesome!

RW, this is a give up post, but I won't really bash you for it since your other two posts of the day were good. I know it is probably asking a lot of you to write three good posts in one day. I mean who wants to give 100% all of the time?

I have noticed that you have not been commenting to our comments lately. I though we all buried the hatchet and that you were going to engage with us more?

I doubt it. Hell, even Sam Merten is gunshy to come here. I guess we're meaner than the other blogs. I think the wild card is RW having a radio show and people being critical of him all the time. Does he sometimes bring it upon himself? Well yeah, but it is what it is. I'm thinking it would be easier to just kick someone from the forum, but I wouldn't advocate that. I'd probably be on that short list.

Rage also rarely takes phone calls or texts that criticize or disagree with them. Go figure. At least Arnie,Gavin,Josh and Elf and the others have the balls to acknowledge that they are not the greatest and don't think they are giving us radio gold. To be honest, I find myself enjoying Josh and Elf and Gavin more and more. At least they aren't fake and put on some awful Russ Martinesque radio shtick that Richie tries and fails at daily.

Gavin is awesome. I don't know the right mix for him, but I enjoy his show. It would be cool to see him mix with different hosts to find his partner. I was really shocked at how much I enjoy Josh and Elf, on the weekends I didn't know just how much Elf had, but he's good. Josh is like all-star playing on the cellar dwelling team, so I'm going to enjoy him until he leaves the format.

Has it really been 25 years?

Yes.

Damn you Davy. You made me spit Dr. Pepper onto my screen.Touche.

I just hate it when the headline of an article is a question like that. Not trying to bash RW or anything. I'll buy ya a sarsaparilla to make up with the Dr Pepper spit take.

Scruffy - Neill left San Antonio de Bexar to tend to family matters. Some of his kin was sick. He was at San Jacinto but he got injured in a skirmish on April 20, the day before the battle. He's a name Texans should hold in high regard even though he was never able to immortalize himself in our wonderful history.

Richie is the king of the passive-aggressive headline. That same kind of attitude contributed to James C Neill being replaced by Travis before your valiant efforts to hold the fort.

Suggestion...possible recap on the 30 for 30 on the Fab Five or the downfall of UNLV on HBO.I guess since I'm younger than you this youtube vid does nothing for me.

The Fab 5 documentary was not a part of the 30 for 30 series. The SMU doc was the last one in that series. The Fab 5 doc was so great though and yes it would be nice for RW to recap it on here.
