What the hell is wrong with you people.... I'm glad he plays golf. Good game, competitive, requires focus and concentration and training your body to perform under pressure. If he had no outside interest outside of football I would be worried about him as a human being. Most of the elite quarterbacks play golf in the off season. Just very few are in Romo's league competitively. And speaking of that, isn't it preferable that he wants to compete on the highest level he's capable of rather than just swilling beer with his buddies playing $2 nassaus?

No ones ever accused Romo of not knowing the playbook or not being in condition to play. He may not be Tom Brady but's he's pretty darn good. Having an elite quarterback is a crapshoot. About 6 teams have one which means that 20 someodd teams don't. We're fortunate to have one as good as we have.

it's a good point about being happy with Romo. Remembering the post Aikman dreck the team tried out at QB gives Romo a whole new appreciation. Of course, if this team could evaluate talent better then Romo wouldn't have been on the practice squad or the third string and we could've been spared some of those dreadful QB tryouts...

Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind Romo participating in this event. Unlike most, I think he gets a bad rap and way too much is made of his off-the-field activities. However, given the fact that he is coming off such a major injury in an area that would be directly impacted by a golf swing, I don't think it's a good idea for him to tee it up right now.

I think his full contact offseason basketball rec league is more a concern than playing some golf. There seems to be zero upside to a thing like that and I don't know why the Cowboys allow him to do it. Lance Berkman tore his ACL a few seasons back with the Astros playing flag football in the offseason. Kitna was a pleasant surprise this year, but let's be real: without Romo this team isn't making the postseason.

Trying to qualify for pro golf tournaments does bring in to question his focus and commitment to the Cowboys. He also seems to love attention as he's been a gossip magazine whore since the days of dating Jessica. Focus on football, Tony.

Drew Brees played in a celebrity event at pebble beach no one complained... Tom Brady plays in celebrity golf tournys and no one complains i think the issue is that here no one wants their celebrity QB of the Dallas cowboys to go and play golf... at least he wont get hurt and its not against the law... ben rothlisburger rode motorcycles even when it was against his contract and had an accident could have killed him... he allegedly raped a girl. i mean at least tony isnt out acting like big ben ohh but ben is focused on football all off season. please

Of course he can't play football right now. I'm sure Mavs fans would prefer Dirk or Roddy B playing golf instead of for their countries during the summer. I think there's an aura of arrogance that the Cowboys fan can't stand. They feel like Romo is too out there into celebrity stuff or trying to qualify for an event while OTA's are going on. Dumbass.

There's not a starting QB in the league that doesn't take part in offseason charities including golfing and wiffleball or softball or what have you. Romo is in a 2nd tier group of QBs that are good, not great. And he's on the older side of said group. I don't know Aaron Rodgers, but Romo, sir, is no Aaron Rodgers. Romo makes questionable decisions on and off field because his driveway doesn't go all the way to the street. His hamster fell off but the wheel is still spinning. In other words, he's kinda dumb.

I don't know how to characterize him, I think a caller put it best on the Fan about him having no pedigree. You can look at small program quarterbacks as much as you want(i.e. Flacco, Kurt Warner) but the fail rate is higher than coming out of a big program. Don't get me wrong, I highly doubt that Stephen McG will ever get to Romo's level, and it is questionable that Romo will ever be "elite". Look at the top qb's: Manning(s), Brady, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers, Roethlisberger... Romo isn't in their league. As a Cowboy fan, that pisses you off, but it is what it is. I think we as Cowboys fans get pissed in the sense there is a competitive fire that sets these guys apart from Romo that we might never see. His time is running out to be or have greatness.

The pedigree comment is interesting. Side note - all the QBs you mention as elite are avid golfers! Tony Romo is not the only QB playing golf right now - actually all but 4 QBS are probably doing something other than football.

I think the problem Cowboys fans have is that we know he plays golf, that's fine and hell I would too. The issue is, how about not being Mr. Celebrity golfer? Are there any other qb's that are playing in it? Nope. Go look at the list. Play golf all you want, but being out there and a noted celebrity playing in a golf classic when less than a month ago you were put on IR, ah, not smart.

Well said. Romo went to a small college. There had to have been a reason. Romo wasn't drafted. Again, probably a reason. He barely survived multiple cuts and rode the pine for multiple seasons. With reason. All those things get ignored when "fans" act like Romo is QB greatness. Is he talented? Yes. So was Ryan Leaf. So was Alex Smith. So was Tim Couch. What makes a talented QB great is intelligence. Studying film, understanding it's a chess match, reading the defense, and making split-second decisions. Some guys have that vision, some don't. Romo doesn't have that vision, he relies on instinct. Instinct combined with talent can make you good, but it doesn't make you elite. Manning/Brady/Brees are the smartest guys on the team. Rodgers looks to be too. Can anyone say that about Romo?

The guy tolerated a long-term relationship with Jessica. When you can get your choice of hot, smart Dallas girls, why do you tolerate her stupidity unless you're a moron too? The two probably never came close to winning a Trivial Pursuit game.

Doesn't bother me as much as I hope he doesn't get really good. I want the guy to be good at football, not moonlighting trying to make the tour or a local PGA event.
