Jerry Jones Says Trash Your NFL Mock Drafts

Categories: Dallas Cowboys

Terence Newman - Touchdown.jpg
What we saw in 2010 were the record number of yards and points allowed by the Dallas Cowboys' defense. We remember the eye-popping, heart-gouging 33 passing touchdowns surrendered.

Apparently owner Jerry Jones saw something different. Either that, or the Cowboys have their eye on a cornerback in the NFL Draft and he's pulling the old trick 'em dick 'em smokescreen.

Because at this week's Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Alabama Jones said he still believes in corners Mike Jenkins and Terence Newman. And yesterday, after saying he didn't feel as negatively about his duo as most, Jones reiterated his surprising stance.

"I stand by that regardless of what other people thought," Jones said. He also hinted that new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's evaluation of Newman and Jenkins is positive.

What are we missing?

Though he did play through abdominal and ankle injuries, Newman was bad. And, given that he was coming off a Pro Bowl season, Jenkins was worse. Off the top of my head, it was Newman who got beat deep after Roy Williams' late-game fumble against the Saints and it was Jenkins who led the NFL in cornerback penalties and who, for the second time in his career, totally quit on a tackle, this one against the Packers on that franchise-changing night in Green Bay.

The Cowboys need an offensive linemen. Or two. They're also desperate for a play-making safety. But most of the early mock drafts have the Cowboys, with the No. 9 pick, selecting Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara. LSU's Patrick Peterson is also a Top 10 prospect.

Ryan improved the pass defenses in Oakland and Cleveland, in part, by playing more aggressively with his corners. They played more press coverage at the line of scrimmage and often blitzed off the corner.

I like the philosophy. I'm just not sure Jenkins and Newman are the right players.

Remember - this is the same Jerry he was delusional about good the Cowboys were and what a great head coach Wade was until he was slapped in the face by the Green Bay embarrassment. It is common knowledge that Jerry and son (who told 1310 that they had "something special" this year) cannot evaluate talent.

Jerry's going to draft Papa John's Pizza with his pick. We all know Pepsi One was at the top of the board and is going to go first. He may be tempted with Wingstop if they're still available.

Either way, Jerry looks like a fool stating that. If it's a bluff it's transparent, if not it's more evidence he's a football moron.

I'm really hoping this is just Jerrah's attempt at bluffing the draft. Rewarding Jenkins by letting him keep his gig is just dumbfounding, and Newman isn't getting any younger.

Then again, we are talking about the guy who decided to draft for special teams a couple years ago, essentially taking a flyer on the entire draft.

The guy may be bluffing. He may be serious. I can't say either would surprise me.

Who cares about this, Jerra's a BAD GM-we all know that. Back to that story about Warsh yesterday, it kinda stuck in my craw a bit. They gave Warsh an 85 Caddy that looks like a pimp mobile? What's next, giving Romo a old pick up truck with tons of add on's, and a naked lady sticker on the back window? Nolan, thats kind of racist.......you and Chuck couldn't pick him up a Kia Spectra? Way to send a guy spiraling back into bad habits, so he yearns for the days of "takin' a bump and takin' a dump". If someone presented me with a Lincoln full of chicken parm and Mario Lanza music, I'd be pissed! Breaking down stereotypes takes generations. What's next, a shotgun shack with a warshing machine that's made into a grill (actually saw this clever device in Branch Texas, and yes I took pics)? How about ya'll give ole Hambonita a beaver pelt and a moonshine still. Anyway, I thought it was a stupid idea.

Notes:Why not praise the two corners? They both cannot tackle, are afraid of contact, and are abismal on coverage. Why change? Oh yeah, and keep running MB3.

ps-When can I pick up my Redsox 2011 championship gear? Hmmm? I know ya'll are all excited about Napoli and Beltre......he he, I got news for ya, this team is worse now. You'll see. Wait til Beltre's hitting .270, with 6 homers at the break. YUP. AND Napoli. The Rangers gave up a proven commodity for a fat, benchwarming Napoli? Really?

Jerry always sticks up for his players, regardless of how bad they are. If he doesn't realize that we need to draft a DB, then he is a worse GM than I ever thought.

Hopefully, Jerry was just blowing smoke.

But even as terrible as the corners were, Jenkins and Scandrick are still young enough for Rob Ryan to try and salvage them.

Its awesome that instead of researching facts, we now get cover his ass words of "off the top of my head" Cmon sports guy, the DMN blows, ya'll have an opportunity to take adavantage of that it this plaace is sucking worse than all things that suck

Nice post. Sounds just like what the Musers talked about at 8am. If I would have been listening to the Fan, I wouldn't have heard them talking about this. Instead, they were talking about how much tail Gavin pulls from Facebook and how Jasmine doesn't put out. Spoooooooorts.

hey maybe Strahan can deliver the pick to Jerry's mansion

Romo would be given a car befitting a tool--a BMW M3 coupe, automatic of course, and he wouldn't bother linking his phone up to the Bluetooth either because he's too dumb to figure it out, he wants to look cooler being on the phone while driving, or both.

yeah the best possible reason for him showing any sort of approval for Mike Jenkins surrendering more yards than anybody else in the league is that he wants to defend his players, typical jerry behavior. The other end of the spectrum being that he is so delusional again that he sees no need to for augmenting or replacing his DBs. I tend more towards the idea that he is being salesman Jerry again and not the delusional owner. I agree that hope is the operative word.

Ticket lemmings are up mighty early this morning...

To be fair to RW, he and greggo did talk about this on their show last night, so he didn't rip it off of the ticket.

Never claimed to be, nor did you, "bub". But from reading this blog, you seem to have the ego of Richie. So what if some of us listen to The Ticket? Nobody's calling you out for not listening to it. You calling people out makes you look like a cock, Rooster (see what I did there?). In any event, I'm done. Go back to thinking you're a screamer.

Ain't no reason his blog should also be what he talks about on the radio. Sure there are slow times of the year where there will be some overlap. I don't want to read the blog if I'm going to hear about it on the radio or vice versa. By the way, Rooster, you ain't Paw-Paw of the blog, so stifle it.

TheRealDirtyP1

Yeah I'm totally a lemming. It's rough having to be at work early. I listen to the Fan just as much as the Ticket. It's always ironic how something I just hear on the Ticket shows up on this blog sometimes. I want the RW that used to put out good blogs. Go back to early '10 when he wasn't on the radio. The quality was 10x better. Ironically, after being a follower of his for a while, I was pretty excited about him on the radio. Now I'm pretty indifferent to it. My hopes? His quality gets better or he hands it off to someone that will post more than a few paragraphs or a couple paragraphs and pics or videos.

Who said I don't listen to the Ticket? You made that assumption on your own.

You calling people out for your own mistaken assumptions makes you look like a cock, Davy Cockett (see what I did there?). In any event, I'm done. Go back to thinking you're a screamer.

Again....feel free to take your own advice.

" It's always ironic how something I just hear on the Ticket shows up on this blog sometimes."

So when the Ticket talks about the Rangers trading Frank Francisco, and the DMN writes about it the next day. Obviously, the Dallas Morning News must have stolen it from the Ticket.

Seriously, you should consider removing your lips from the Ticket's ass...
