In the Wake of Losing Caron Butler, the Dallas Mavericks Land ...

Carmelo Anthony Sasha Pavlovic.

The former first-round draft pick of the Utah Jazz is far from the answer for the reeling Dallas Mavericks. He'll likely just get a shot via a 10-day contract after the team last week cut role player Steve Novak.

Word today is that if the New Jersey Nets acquire Anthony and send Devin Harris to Denver, the Mavs might be interested in eventually bringing the point guard back to Dallas.

Yeah, but ...

While going 2-5 without Dirk Nowitzki, when does it become time to actually try and replace Butler? Not long ago the Mavs were the best team in basketball. These days they can't beat anybody not named Cleveland.

At this rate they can't wait until the February 24 trading deadline to snag Stephen Jackson or Andre Iguodala or Kevin Martin or ... somebody.

Somebody who writes a blog last week claimed that Iggy was going to happen. Of course he didn't cite a source...

See, Ghost of Scott doesn't actually have a complaint about this article. He's just pretty sure the right thing to do is to attack Richie and approve of whatever or whoever Richie isn't.

I didn't attack Richie at all. Didn't even mention him. So suck it.

Here's an experiment you should try then.

(1) Sleep with a woman. (Note that you will probably need to pay her.)

(1a) If you prefer, sleep with a man. (Note that you will probably need to pay him.)

(2) When you are done, she will say, "Bring back Rob M."

(2a) When you are done, he will say, "Bring back Richie Whitt."

(3) Don't feel attacked.

See where I'm going with this? If you are a good speaker and writer of the English language, which at this time it actually favors you that you may not be, then your choice of words follows the maxim of relevance. That is to say, you didn't randomly state that Sam Merten should be brought back.

Through implicature, you convey to other readers that you are dissatisfied with Richie's writing, that Merten once wrote here, that you preferred Merten's writing, and through explicature (though with a generous amount of exegesis given the slang in your text), that you would like for Merten to return writing here.

You did not attack Richie explicitly. However, your statement that you "didn't attack Richie at all" is not true. Should you reject explicature, then you should keep in mind that I never said you attacked Richie, merely that you were pretty sure that attacking him was the right thing to do. No matter where you move your metaphorical, linguistic queen, she is going to be bent over by my semiotic knights.

(No, kergo, because I know you're reading, "semiotics" is not what I pumped your mother full of last night.)

Don't back down from your attacks. He's not a big guy. Correction, he's not a tall guy. I'm sure you could take him.

I'm in favor of bashing Richie, but I don't like to see the genre of Richie insults watered down with lame efforts.

They'll survive until Febuary 24th as long as we get a healthy Dirk back. This will still be a formidable team with a healthy Dirk even without Butler.

I'm sure Cuban will make a trade for an impact player come Febuary so I'm not too worried…...yet.

Why would you bring Harris back when you're 2-3 deep at that position? Wouldn't it make more sense to try to get Rip Hamilton?
