Is Vince Young the Biggest Waste of Talent in NFL History?

When Vince Young singlehandedly beat USC in the 2005 BCS National Championship Game, he climaxed a sparkling college legacy and seemingly paved his way to NFL stardom.

But with yesterday's announcement by Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams that Young would be traded or released, Young officially became a bust. As a first-round pick with unique athleticism and a winning record as a starting quarterback, getting released is almost an unthinkable achievement.

He just might be the biggest waste of talent in NFL history.

Young has no leadership skills. No work ethnic. And, evidenced by his strip-club skirmish in Dallas last summer and his pads-throwing incident with coach Jeff Fisher this fall, no clue.

In a word, he's playing himself out of a job because he's ... lazy.

He hasn't improved his reading of defenses. His footwork still sucks. His throwing motion remains flawed. Young plays and acts like a kid who thought he'd waltz into the NFL and shrug off tacklers and responsibilities as easily as he did at Texas.

And please stop with all the "Cowboys should sign V.Y.!" nonsense.

Two words: Ryan. Leaf.

Big. Strong. Gifted. And, yep, horrible.

Okay, I have gone back and read this article again. The guys wins 31-17, takes the Titans from 0-6 to 8-8 cleaning up after Collins and Fisher, I won't count the two pro-bowls, beats the Giants on a 80 yard drive at Metlife Staidum, leads an 99 yard drive against the Cardinals. Should have won the Heisman, did win a national championship in college, not mention the other awards that comes with winning the best played BCS game, ever. If horrible is the only word you can come up with. I'll take horrible on my team anyday. Go figure, Colt McCoy quit in his last game and he's a starter in Cleveland, Leinhart, no comment needed, and VY is without a starting job because his coach was a "hater".
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Young is dumb. Plain and simple. Combine that with lazy and entitled and that's alot to overcome with talent not entirely befitting a QB. My dislike of Romo comes from the fact I'm convinced he's a moron too, but Vince makes Tony look like a Mensa member.

QBs don't get into the Hall of Fame without leadership skills. VY can't even SPELL Hall of Fame, much less have a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting in. Dude. Seriously. Put the crack pipe down.
What's the stat, something like Fisher has 6 winning seasons in 16 at Hou/Tennessee? And like a 55% winning record? So that means that VY's 30-17 record has upped Fisher's resume somewhat. It's funny how noone remembers that Tennessee came in here and beat the Cowboys early in the year WITH Romo playing, WITH Romo playing. I'm not saying VY is better, but look at the supporting cast here. Are you telling me besides Chris Johnson, VY has a better supporting cast than Romo??????
Vince isn't done. He is still only 27 years old and you (Whitt) seem to forget that Vince was offensive rookie of the year. And Bud Adams is among the worst owners in the league. <i>Young has no leadership skills</i> Troy Aikman didn't have any either. Aikman showed up guys like Erik Williams and Kevin Williams by yelling at them and then Mike Irvin had to smooth things over for 8 Ball. Aikman had no leadership skills other than barking and glaring at teammates after Jimmy Johnson left.

Young is like a lot of pro athletes now ... adults with 13-year-old maturity and brains who were held to little or no accountability in college and now can't handle even basic life responsibilities. Sounds like a great fit for the Raiders. Sad.

The comebacks he orchestrated proves ghat, he can get teams to rally and make plays in the clutch, that take leadership skills. Dude needs to grow up and get film work in and learn to disect a defense during the week. I don't know if he will ever learn. So in that sense he is a waste of talent but its grasping at straws and shows a lack of journalistic integrity to say he lacks leadership skills that's one thing he don't lack.

I'm impressed Richie - 4 posts today. Are any Cowboy fans really asking to sign Vince? That being said, as Greggo said yesterday, the line form to the right for him even with the frustrating career. He's been more inconsistent than horrible and did help turn around a perennial losing Tennessee team and won RoY. There's been a lot of ugly mixed in but with all the teams with QB issues someone will undoubtedly see if he's got anything.
None of those worthy choices riles up the UT apologists when posted.
