• @MickeyG: If he wins 80 regular season games and another 15-18 post season games then that money would be WELL worth it. If he was getting paid $1 mil/win with no post season wins then we would have "weeping and gnashing". I think CLee is worth a 5 year/$125-130 mil contract, but, that is just my opinion and I'm just a regular Joe.

• So back to sports. Lee will get something over 100 million for 5 years. Let's say that over that 5 years he wins 80 games. That's somewhere between 1million and 1.5 million per win for the next five years. And you would be "gutted" if the Rangers don't do that? Just think, if Hicks still owned the club and was proposing to pay a 32 year old pitcher 1.5 million per win for the next five years how loud would the weeping and gnashing be from the informed sports experts on your blog????

• Hard to attend Stars games and Mavs games, and Cowboy games and still have money to pay the bills. I spent a lot with the Rangers, have a half season for Mavs, mix in a game or two of Stars for the first 1/2 of the season to pick up more later when there isn't anything else going on. If they will give me a ticket, I'll spend $$ at the concessions and cheer my a$$ off. I think the players make so much money that the teams seem to forget that us common folk can't blow cash like they can.

• Christian AND American here and both say the bus signs are cool. If you know your theology you know that God does not want people to choose him out of ignorance he wants them to choose him for him. If you know your Constitution you know that freedom of speech and expression is protected. Plus common sense says one should not be worried that 4 buses out 150 will have a certain ad. Call me a dingus, but I would like to have CLee AND Greinke. If I have to deal with a bunch of fucking transplants day in and day out complaining about Texas in general and DFW in particular then I want some pay-out for that grief. That pay-out is that we are the 4th largest market in America so unless NY, LA or Chi-town outbids us I expect to get every player we go after. The fact that pis-ant Bean Town and "The ATL" outbid the Rangers on a regular basis is a travesty. Congrats on two years; The Fan has now been upgraded to one of my regular stops during commercial breaks on The Ticket. That is if 1080 or 90.1 don't get my attention first. Space is cool, but we need to make it pay for itself and the tech is already there to do that. NASA had a proposal to place solar arrays on the moon and beam the constant energy they generate back to Earth. The tech is either there or almost there to make that happen. When we are making electricity for 1/10 the cost we can then trade that energy to OPEC for petro until we develop the tech to do without gas.

• the musers don't hate Richie Whitt. The media are mostly friends with each other. All the radio feuds are fake and always have been. It is funny when P1's act like they are friends with some strangers who broadcast on the radio.

• First, is Rooster over the age of 45? I get the idea he is. If I'm not mistaken, tv has we currently know it, microwave ovens, and many modern medical marvels can all be traced in the simplest form to either space, or the pursuit of knowledge of space, just to name a few. But hey, if we want to go back to "good ole days", let's! I just think space is super gay. About a year ago, I remember commenting that the fan should just blatantly rip The Ticket off, low and behold they have, nearly verbatim (where's my consult fee?). Seems to be working some, we'll see if it continues. I'll admit I've listened to RAGE a few times (worst radio show name ever?), but ultimately, the original is always best. I am NOT interested in giving up Scheppers AND Perez for greinke. Nor am I interested in selling the farm for CLee. If he bolts to NYY, let's start the season as is, pick up one of the 2nd tier guys available and see who's available to trade for in June/July.

• @Jeremy...the greatest thing the space program brought to our everyday lives is solid state circuitry. Remembers TV's with tubes? Maybe you're not that old. Your tiny IPhone and most of the electronic gadgetry that we use EVERYDAY had its origins in the space program. I agree that much of the work they do seems a bit useless, but you just never know. Who thought that the medicines that changed the world would come from mold. Lastly, Bob Stoops loses his Heisman QB, all-america tight end and two thirds of his offensive line and still manages to go 8-5 with a bowl win over Sanford. I guess he IS the best coach in the Big 12 and can cap it off tomorrow night with his 7th conference title in 11 years.

• @ Scruffy - Notice I didnt say that there was no place for Space. I allowed for the random visit to the Moon / orbit every 50 years just to make sure everything is still like it was during the previous 50 years. Why don't we focus our enery resources for solar exploration in space to help fund the development of harnessing solar energy on Earth. Seems to me like the only things being done in space create more meaningless questions, and take away LARGE amounts of funding for projects that could be taking place here, that actually produce tangible results. Capture a fraction of the sun's energy from space and harness it and we have limitless free power. We'd be decades behind where we are now in alot of different areas if it weren't for space exploration. Today's discussion has been refreshing though, and far better than Clone and Fake Fest.

• @ Scruffy Im being serious ... Why do we need to know there are moons and water on other planets ? What good has that knowledge done for us ? I gave you the leash to include our atmosphere, but what can we do to effect an asteroid or comet from obliterating us? The answer is nothing. I also said that I understand the need for solar/atmospheric exploration, but not as it correlates to the universe, but how it can be used on Earth. We have idiots staring at meaningless stars light years away that will never affect us, yet we don't even fully understand how to create a sustainable source of energy. Space radiation is not a big deal considering there are millions of people suffering from hunger on the Earth TODAY. @ Rooster - If they would have started at the the different companies, instead of wasting time at these other facilities, then we may have had the breakthroughs earlier. Those stops at NASA are only refocusing the genius that is already there. • I have some information that will bring The Fan down.

• Space - Engineers, scientists etc. at NASA do eventually leave, and they take the knowledge they aquired while working on these programs and go to work for Microsoft, Intel, et al, and create products that affect your everyday life. . They also teach at some of the most world reknown universities on the planet, and pass their knowledge off to others who go to work for Microsoft, Intel, et al. . The one thing people always miss when they debate space exploration is the human capital it creates.

• Wow, seriously? Space radiation. Big deal. We know very little about it. But without our atmosphere to block it we all fry to a crispy deep golden brown. Solar flares and solar cycles. A bad solar flare that crosses our path can wipe out our power grid and electronics. Kinda bad. We need to know more. Find a way to take advantage of solar energy and there's no need for oil or coal. Free energy. Beam it to Earth eventually. The fusion process is also free energy and mimics the sun if we perfect that. Mars has lots of water. The moon has water. Even Mercury may have frozen water in craters. Moons of Jupiter and Saturn have water. Water=chance of life. Life is good. Plus it'd be kinda nice if we could track comets, asteroids, and other large chunks of rock that may cross our path. A little warning may be nice so we can do something before being obliterated. And given how big the universe is, look deep enough with a telescope and you see back in time, literally, because of the whole speed of light thing. Money put into space research benefits mankind alot better than many other ways it could be spent. Sorry for the long, off-topic post. The subject fascinates me.

• @ Scruffy - What good has come from our Space Exploration exactly ? The only thing in space that justifies exploration is the sun, moon and our immediate atmosphere because they are the only aspects of space that actually affect us. We can't get to the sun, so who cares about that. The moon has been done, so who cares about that, and an occasional orbit every 50 years is the only thing necessary at this point. Mars is useless, Uranus is useless, and Pluto was found to be so useless that its not even a planet anymore. Matt Wilhelm

• People get all up in arms about the bus ads in Ft Worth, but not a peep out of people when the God billboards started popping up a few years ago. Religion = Hypocrisy. Can't stand it. I can't stand listening to Ben and Skin. Hated them on The Ticket, and have hated them on their other stops. As previously mentioned, I don't care about ratings. I listen to what I like. It could be The Fan for the better part of the day or it could be The Ticket or I could listen to the iPod. Space exploration is extremely important. Probably not important to extremely religious people because, ya know, God did all of this. SI.com has had a couple of good reads on the Denver player who committed suicide. Suicide is a shame. Speaking of work longevity, I worked with a guy at a law firm in New York who started when he was 28. He stayed on thru mergers and whatnot and his last day at the office was in September only because he passed away at the age of 100.

• I would GLADLY accept Grienke over Lee. If Lee signs elsewhere, The Rangers still get two compensation picks. One disease Ranger fans have always had is thinking their prospects are HOFers. Remember Ruben Mateo? DVD? Prospects are like buttholes, everyone has em & most of them stink. Cliff Lee brought The Rangers PLAYOFF success, but it was Wilson & Lewis who carried the team during the regular season.

• Jeremy, if you can't understand the point, purpose, and benefit of space exploration you might want to open your eyes. Understanding how things happen out there helps us understand how our own planet works and how to make things better. Things that originated as NASA and other space projects make your daily live much improved. Meaningless? Not freaking hardly. More money needs to go to space exploration and research.
