TCU + BCS = WTF?!

• If the AD of TCU would come out and say that they have been trying to schedule a game with Florida or Ohio State then that might bring this BS system down. Can you imagine what kind of a s-storm that would create? Big guys stone-walling the little guys would make a huge story. But it will never happen. In 20 years we will all be watching the RaceTrac Bowl on Dec 1.

• See, this is the problem with fans of AQ schools...Do you realize that the big schools don't want to schedule games with the teams like TCU and Boise? I'm so sick of hearing about the amount of alum, number of fans watching...blah, blah, blah! One fact that you blind sheep are unaware of is that the current system spores what you argue about. Can you imagine if more talented high school students chose these "so called" smaller schools? Money would be allocated more fairly, giving the "smaller schools" more revenue to recruit more talent...WHATEVER, I'm so tired of the favoritism to these big conference teams that established the BCS system. If only you effin knew! Ask yourself this question...why is college football the only sport that doesn't have a playoff? Here we go..."the season would be too long", "students would miss classes", and all the other garbage excuses to why you prefer only 20% of the college teams allowed into a NCBCS game. I've got a better idea for you fluoride head fans, lets just pick 16 teams and only those teams play in bowl games. Who wants or needs competition? Similar to EA sports in my opinion, make a crappy product and collect a billion dollars, EFF the consumer.

• @ FARMER BILL hey I just read all the arguements, and I must say that you make really good points and provide some good facts. I would not mind seeing TCU or Bosie against Oregon. Regarding the whole TV ratings issues: I believe that a game like Oregon vs. TCU or Bosie would bring in better ratings that many may think... im to lazy to look up facts, but i do remember when Bosie beat OU a couple years ago... Its all anyone talked about the next day. Look around... anytime you bring up Bosie or TCU in a conversation EVERYBODY (internet, family, friends, ESPN...) has an opinion on who would win and why. And now your going to tell me that a game like that wouldn't draw viewers?

• @ Gus - Get serious, the National Champions are determined by who loses the earliest. Season long playoff is laughable. Every game counts is just as ridiculous. Did you catch the Alabama / GA State matchup this past weekend. Wow, that really mattered. You could still have divisions and rivalries in a playoff system. Do the fans of the Cowboys still hate the Redskins, Eagles, and Giants ? Free Agency ruins rivalries, not the playoffs. Only reason for this archaic system is so that 60 some odd schools can feel good about getting an extra paycheck at the end of the season. No one cares about anything other than the BCS bowls as it is.

• Richie - stick with you bad pro sports reporting, which is fine because pro sports are all about lifestyle, rumor and playing just hard enough to get into some playoff. Because CFB is a season-long championship most common folk dont understand, all this anti-BCS playoff BS is all an agenda driven by the national media, mostly the clowns at ABC/ESPN/Disney that want to expand the fanbase to include all the mouth-breathing pro sports fans and dystroy the conference and regional rivalries that are the basis for college football. TCU was .01Sec away from the game last year and I would have loved to see how bad Alabama would have killed them considering they were delt with by lowly Boisie. I doubt TCU or Boisie is anything better than a well executing mid level teams. They play well but against the Pac-10 or SEC champs thats a different story.

• I'm still a P1 but people seem to get distracted by its presence in front of my name. I think the issue I have is that 10 years ago you could say that Boise and TCU had softer schedules, and actually blame their scheduling. Now I think the blame should be on the elite schools that refuse to play them on their non-conference schedule because of the money involved in losing a game like that, and possibly falling out of BCS favor. Make no mistake about it, it's a no win situation for the bigger schools to go to Boise or TCU at this point.

• I'm sorry but until this team plays in a power conference i.e SEC, Pac 10, Big 10, Big 12 etc. They will not receive respect from the pollsters. Its simple, in the power conferences you have two cakewalk games, while in the case of TCU and Boise its 10 easy games. I am not taking away anything from these teams but until the level of play throughout TCU's schedule increases they do not deserve a chance to play for the National Championship.

• Auburn, 2004. 13-0. Undefeated. OUT OF THE SEC. Pick any conference opponent: If Auburn has a bad game, they lose by a touchdown even to a weak rival. If TCU has a bad game, they still win by 20 points. Say what you want about how good TCU and BSU are. They deserve a title shot; I'll concede that. But NOT over undefeated teams from the PAC 10 and SEC.

• @farmer bill....you made the point. TCU doesn't draw worth a shit for a top 5 program. Stanford is a one shot thing as far as the big time goes. When Luck leaves, they go back to being 7-5 every year. If they didn't play a Pac-10 schedule, no one would notice. But they DO PLAY a Pac-10 schedule, and that counts. All the schools you listed are middle of the road programs for the most part with a great year here and there. OK State will see dramatic attendance increases with the enlargement of the stadium. This entire thread started with "follow the money". And that was correct. Why do you think Ohio St. will get the second BCS slot from the Big 10? They travel well EVERY YEAR!

• Boise State completely revamped their defense last year just for the bowl game. Obviously TCU studied for schemes that they never saw. If Boise hadn't done that, I think TCU wins. I'm actually rooting for both TCU and Boise St. just to create all kinds of chaos. Plus the widowed missus is a TCU grad. I met her while she was hooking at Berry and University just to pay her tuition. I never did get tired of calling her a whore. Or slut.

• Remind me again how good TCU is in bowl games during the past two seasons? 0-2. Boise State is 2-0 and is a much better team and has a better defense than the Frogs.

• Did you know Stanford home attendance is around 35,000 this year? Yet they could make it to the Rose bowl. TCU averaged 42,466 fans per game this season Did you know the average average attendance nationally is 45,545 fans Boise State averaged just 32,782 fans per game Mississippi State attendance average is only a little bit bigger than TCU at 53,000. Cincinatti only averages 33,000. Oklahoma State is only 53,000. For small enrollement TCU carries almost 200% enrollment/attendance ratio. Pretty good. Notre Dame is at number 1 and they are 720% ratio.

• @farmer bill....TCU's real problem can be summed up in two words: HOME ATTENDANCE. They have an excellent football product that struggles to fill a 44,000 seat stadium. If you ran a bowl game and you came to see the Frogs play and noticed the number three or four team in the country with 4,000 empty seats, wouldn't that concern you? The Boise/TCU numbers were driven more by curiousity than anything else. As for alumni numbers...every catholic that can look at an Indiana road map thinks they went to ND.

• Much as it would be interesting to see a school give a lesser bowl the finger, it would never happen. Conferences need the money, especially MWC, and TCU knows that it would be losing out not only on a chunk of that money but also any respect from the rest of the schools. In fact, TCU could kiss any potential movement to a better conference good bye if they pulled that. Would any power conference want to deal with a team that would willing screw everyone else over to pout?

• Baylor has about the same amount of alumni as TCU. USC has the same amount of alumni as TCU Univ. of Miami has the same amount of alumni as TCU. TCU was left out of the Big 12 b/c the governor of Texas was a Baylor grad. TCU won the SWC in 1994. TCU most likely get an invite in an AQ conference by this year end. None of this has anything to do with bowl games though. I just showed you the facts and they show TCU can draw a large audience. You show me enrollment at TCU. Who cares about enrollment, Notre Dame is a small school but who cares they draw. Duke wins national championships and is a small school and draws ratings. YES, Media and viewership is much larger when you have 2 public schools playing each other, but TCU draws more than Boise State (Idaho viewership). Ohio State and Texas always draw more eyes than any two teams playing in a bowl game but the TCU vs. Boise State Fiesta bowl was higher ratings than the year before with Oklahoma vs. West Virginia. AND PLEASE LET TCU PLAY AN SEC SCHOOL! Utah had fun beating Alabama, TCU would have fun beating LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, or Auburn. OH PLEASE! Opinion is only decent points when it fits your agenda.

• I would also point out that as a Buckeye fan I was interested in the ratings for the BSU v. TCU game as we were in the game the previous year. You can look it up and there was approx. a 35% decrease in viewers compared to the Texas v. OSU year.

Facts are facts, the reason TCU isn't in the BIG12 or 10 is because the size of the school, not the state of their football competitiveness. This means most major colleges are churning out 2.5 to 5 TIMES the number of alumni TCU does. . If you're ever asking yourself why TCU isn't in a major conference, you now have your answer. . Now if it's YOUR money and YOU'RE a tv network, who do YOU want in the bowl game you're paying for?....because that's exactly what the BCS is thinking...what does the guy stroking us the very large the check want, and how can we gerrymander this process to give it to him?

• @Huh? - Only 1 non-AQ school is guaranteed a BCS bowl if it finishes high enough, I believe. Also, the top 14(?) teams in the BCS standings are eligible for a BCS game. The lowest-rated BCS game was the 2009 Orange featuring Virginia Tech and Cincinnati. That game drew a 5.4 rating. The Boise State-TCU matchup outperformed the past three Orange Bowls and the 2008 Fiesta Bowl (Oklahoma-West Virginia). The Fiesta drew a 22.8 rating in the Dallas market, home of TCU.

• You don't have bias? All your facts are opinion based. Yes, at one point in TCU's long history they were horrible and were left out of the Big 12. TCU made due and may soon move into an AQ conference in 2012. MWC chose its horrible contract b/c BYU couldn't play on Sunday's and Versus/CBS College channel/the Mtn. was going to pay 86 million dollars to have MWC teams on TV while ESPN was going to pay 32 million. TCU has recreated themselves out of the shadow from that of UT and A&M and even its rival SMU. TCU not only recreated its brand but now has enjoyed over a decade of success. TCU has gone to a bowl game every year but one since it's 1998 Sun Bowl appearance. Yes I favor TCU but you favor "can response with no facts" fan. I agree follow the money is why SEC will have 2 teams in the BCS picture at the end. For a national championship game I don't think you have to worry about eyes or money, people will be watching to see how good TCU really is this year and that #1 defense.

• TCU travels very well to bowl games and spends lots of money. Hey, TCU has the rich alumni. 35,000 plus at the Fiesta Bowl Oregon's #1 offense vs. TCU's #1 defense, now that is a perfect senario. Little does the AQ fanbase realize is that TCU has an even more dangerous offense than possibly even Oregon. Andy Dalton, Jeremy Kerley, Ed Wesley, Josh Boyce, Jimmy Young, Waymon James, Matthew Tucker, Skye Dawson, Antoine Hicks are just a few speedsters/incredibly talented athletes that can score tons of points. This would make for an exciting national championship game and the nation's college fans knows this.
