Who You Want: Yankees or Rays?

I spoke too soon. Maybe you thought it too.

It seemed like a foregone conclusion that if and/or when the Texas Rangers made the playoffs they'd face the New York Yankees. NY would win the American League East, the Tampa Bay Rays would win the Wild Card and the Minnesota Twins the Central. As the Wild Card, Tampa would play the best record but since they're in the same division the Rays would then slide over to No. 2, the Twins.

But hold your horses.

In the wake of the Rangers sweeping the Yankees, and last night in Tampa, Reid Brignac hitting an 11th-inning homer, which gave the Rays a 1-0 victory over the Yankees, well- don't look now - but the lead in the East has changed to the Rays.

By beating the Yankees, the Rangers may have avoided playing the Yankees.

If the playoffs started today it would be Yankees-Twins and Rangers-Rays. That could certainly change over the season's final 2.5 weeks.

This year the Rangers are 2-4 against the Rays and 4-4 vs. the Yankees. Texas is winless on the road against both teams.

Ok...say the Rays win the East and finish with best record and somehow the Rangers beat them in the ALDS. At the same time, the wild card Yankees defeat the Twins in the other ALDS - setting up Rangers/ Yankees for the ALCS. Who would have home field since Yankees would be wild card?

Do not make the mistake of every wishing to play the Yankees in the post season.
Don't count out the Twins for best team in the American League. They're only 2 games back. While the Yanks & Rays duke it out playing each other, the Twins have a much easier schedule. Won't change who the Rangers play in the 1st round, though. They'll still get the East winner.
I'd rather get the Yankees. They've shown it's possible to knock them out of the playoffs early if they get caught unhealthy or off-guard or unfocused. If they win a fight to the finish with Tampa where they can't rest and focus on the playoffs, I say bring on Cliff Lee (who owned them last year in the WS), shut up the crowd in Game 1, and let them worry about being able to come here and win. I'd much rather the Rangers have to deal with an ALDS Yankee Stadium atmosphere than what it could be like in an ALCS, given our little band of misfits makes it there. Might as well get the monkey off our backs by taking on the 500 lb gorilla.
Gimme the Rays...their bats go silent a lot easier than the Yankees. That said I may have to agree that their pitching may be superior. Of course if the Rangers are right, we may be better than both.
Bring on either of them. Itll be great to be in the playoffs so I dont care who they play and they dont either. Once the playoffs start its a whole new ballgame and I cant wait to for October. Rooster needs to lose that pessimistic attitude. Have faith bro, anything is possible

Easy question: New York.
I think its between the Yankees and Rays for best team in the league. So either way we are screwed. I would always love to beat the Yankees though.
both matchups suck, but got to pick the yankees. the rays pitching scares me more and the rangers just seem to have played better against new york than they have tampa.
Let's face it, the Yankees will end up winning the East. They'll manage it in the end. Would rather see the Rays though. Let someone else try to knock out NY in NY.
Rays. Let's get sent home in the first round by someone else for a change.
