Sean Lee Not Worth a Nickel

Ah, the good ol' days.
Sean Lee is good. But not good enough.

Drafted in the second round to be a better Bobby Carpenter, the Penn State rookie has looked good in the preseason. But not good enough to earn the job as the Dallas Cowboys' nickel linebacker.

Spin it any way you want, this is a disappointment. I remember the Cowboys saying on draft night they expected Lee to specifically fill that role.

Not that Lee hasn't looked good, but a strained thigh forced him to miss 13 training camp practices.

The job formerly held by Bill Bates and Kenny Gant will apparently go to ...

Jason Williams, Danny McCray, Mike Hamlin or Keith Brooking.

It's an important position, mostly responsible for covering running backs flaring out in patterns on third-down passing situations. Brooking has the experience, but his surgically-repaired body may not hold up to those expanded duties. Williams has the athleticism, but looked lost at times last week against Houston.

This one needs to be figured out before we feel comfortable about September 12 in Washington.
