Cowboys-Dolphins: Anything to See Here?

Nothing this dramatic tonight. Guaranteed.
Tonight at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington the home team "regulars" won't play. The Miami Dolphins will use their starters.

Other than a juicy wagering opportunity, here are a couple things to keep your eye on as the Cowboys mercifully end the longest preseason in the history of professional sports:

*Stephen McGee will take most - if not all - of the snaps at quarterback. In other words: Yawn.

*Dez Bryant won't play. Hard decision, but the right decision. McGee throws him a high wobbler and gets hurt and no one will forgive themselves.

*By Saturday, 22 of the 75 players will be former Cowboys. Rosters have to be sliced to 53. On the "bubble": Sam Hurd, Pat McQuistan and Steve Octavien. If Hurd doesn't make this team, Jesse Holley just might be a real, live Cowboy in 2010.

*Running backs Marion Barber (4 carries for -2 yards against Houston) and Felix Jones (3 for 6) have combined for 21 carries for 44 yards. Significance? Minimal. The Cowboys are averaging 54.5 yards per game rushing, lowest in the NFL preseason since the Colts in '06. That team, of course, won the Super Bowl.

*Owner Jerry Jones on the Cowboys' awful preseason: "It's so bad it just can't be that bad."

*For those of you wailing over the exhibition failures I have two words of advice. 19. 89. Look it up.
