Vince Young, Not at Onyx

We're not surprised that Vince Young was in a Dallas strip club (Onyx) at 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning. We're not surprised that he was slapped with a citation by police after getting involved in a scuffle.

And, considering the kukoos that have played at the University of Texas, we're not surprised that Young freaked out over something as simple and innocuous as the "Horns down" hand sign.

Surveillance video from the club shows Young and Club Onyx employee Creiton Kinchen, 45, exchanging words for a few minutes before the scuffle in a small, crowded office area about 3:30 a.m. At one point Kinchen, who police believe is from Oklahoma, can be seen flashing an upside-down "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign at Young.

Young, who was not arrested, faces up to a $500 fine on the Class C misdemeanor charge. In September 2008, Young's Tennessee Titans called police to help search for him after he reportedly mentioned suicide and drove away from his home with a gun.

Young's a great player, but a weird, underachieving dude. And he's got Orange Blood company.

Consider Texas' first-round picks just in the Mack Brown era. Disappointing at worst, quirky at best. No?

The Horns down sign is classless. When your celebration is not for your team but to taunt the opposing team,you're a dick. It's indisputable evidence you are Texas obsessed. In my experience, I've never met a more arrogant bunch of fans than Texas A&M and OU fans. OU fans, they've earned their right with the team's successes. A&M has earned nothing. So don't give the title of most arrogant to UT fans. Texas IS a perennial power though they have not won multiple national championships like the SEC teams and to a lesser extent OU. I am not a graduate of The University of Texas so don't say I'm a Horn alum. My top three ranking for crappiest ex students is Texas A&M, OU and Texas Tech. No bigger Jack Ass lives than the Aggie. Talk about arrogance with absolutely no accomplishments. Go Frogs!!!

Vince Young needs to do P90x like Richie's doing. Vince could be getting compliments at the pool in just two weeks and it really, really works y'all.
DATELINE: Houston NASA officials reconfirmed today that the universe does not revolve around the University of Texas. There have been statements from alums and fans with blinders on falsely attempting to claim otherwise. NASA asks UT fans to keep in mind, when they look up into the great expanse that is space, only a tiny fraction of the lifeforms present give a rat's ass about the Longhorns. NASA realistically expects that this reconfirmation of known facts will fall on deaf ears in the UT-verse.

Why are people so obsessed with Texas anyway? We're just cheering on our own team like anybody else. Except I guess everybody else (the people who throw horns down) have an inferiority complex/green envy and spend their energy attacking them rather than promoting themselves. You never see Coke using comparison advertising with Pepsi. They concentrate on Coke. Coming to the east coast, I ran into University of Tennessee alumni who are like, "Ewww...you're from the OTHER UT." Huh? There's another UT? We never think about you guys, and have no rivalry with you - thanks for playing.
Looks like you listed some Pro Bowl players right there in that list. Did you watch the whole video? Because the horns-down symbol is given to Longhorns all the time. He never acted on those. Obviously something else was said that brought him back into the room. A slight abrasion to the lip, no medical attention needed, $500 misdemeanor fine. All this media attention over nothing. This blog post is highly biased and based in only opinion as far as I can see. Great journalism. Laugh.
@timbo..would like to offer you a reasoned, thoughtful answer to your question regarding the upside horns business. The reason everyone does this toward UT fans and players is because of a real arrogance that exists in those groups. UT has won ONE nat'l champiuonship in football in the last 35 plus years (so has Ga. Tech and Clemson), but their fandom and exes see them as a perennial power and challenger to the crown. We're surrounded by the "t-shirt nation" that couldn't find the campus in Austin if you gave them a push heading south on I-35. Jealousy toward UT, probably a bit. Texas is a great university with tremendous facilities. To many of us, however, they are simply underachievers (especially in football...see Clemson and G. Tech examples). There are posters on this blog who constantly put down the fans of other schools with derogatory and childlike name calling and that group is the one who creates this hatred of the FANS of UT. Most of us respect the University, but we have no respect for the fans(especially those who make up the "nation"). I hope you see this for the reasoned response it was intended to be. I'll expect the avalanche of insults toward me to start in less than three minutes.
When you are the big dog, or should I say bull, that big ole bulls eye on your fanny is prime meat. That is the way it is in life and in sports.
Bradford's: I don't "hat" the Longhorns. I don't "hate" them either. (Did you really read the post?) And I don't live and die by them. I went to school there, so have to live with them. I can't latch on to any other team that happens to be playing well and call them my own. Or because they're located in an adjacent state - that I choose NOT to live in. And I don't base my self worth or mood on how a Texas team recently fared. Blah, blah, blah: I don't flash the horns sign except during school song. If Horns do well, I clap and have another drink. I think TCU was the better baseball team this year. Really clutch pitching. And I agree with TCU's coach when he said it's a shame NCAA keeps pitting Frogs and Horns in same super regional, limiting the chances of both getting to CWS. Now, do you feel better? Let me know if you need some advice on where to stay and eat in Omaha. Been there for many CWS's.

Its thrown in your face upside down because people are making fun of you. Every time a Texas player makes a big run or they score its Horns up to the crowd, home or away, so dont be offended when the other 95% of people who hat the douchehorns turn them upside down. They are making fun of the fact that even as pros, these idiots still flash their horns up signs. Really, its cool when you are in college but leave it there. I guess when Vince was getting his "Gagree" he wasnt taught to walk away from idiots, bc its cool to protect the horns sign.

NEVER DISS A LONGHORN. I don't understand how this is news. Two people get in a bar fight when one guy is taunting the other guy and the only outcome is a bloody lip? I don't even understand why all the top police were involved much less the national media. Hitting some dude in the mouth and attempted rape of 3 women are not the same thing. Good take Timbo, I wish Vince wasn't so manly and had let his "helpers" take care of this. Really good point on the dumbass that threw the horns down too..guess he doesn't work on tips. I would love to hear the audio, cause I'm guessing that's what got that stupid okie a beat down, not the hand sign. On another note, BeefSupreme, how is the Onyx club? Hell, where is it? Quirky at best? Some are, but UT consistently trots out very solid talent. Bigg Davis- Pro Bowl. Ricky Williams- could've been better, but still going strong. Aaron Ross- poised to be great. Bo Scaife- solid TE. Ahmard Hall- stud FB. VY- just wins. Jamaal Charles- poised to be great. Casey Hampton- Pro Bowls/SB champ. Jammer- solid cover CB. Orakpo- extreme badass. Cedric Benson- revived career in Cinci. Justin Blalock- stud OL. Shawn Rogers- jury still out?/still in Pro Bowls. Ced Griffin, Melton, Finley, Kindle, Earl Thomas....I mean seriously, fuck your analysis. I know all these weren't first rounders, but Mack knows what he's doing. I could keep going, but maybe I'll just mention that there are about 35 players combined from the TX-USC championship game that are now in the league. Pow Pow.

Over/under on some tool reporter tracking down Roy Williams to get a sound bite about this: 2 p.m.
Young shouldn't have let the "Horns down" sign provoke him, but let's take a look at how that sign has come to stand for the chip any non-UT school has on its shoulder. An equally important question is: Why would the employee of a club - Creiton Kinchen - treat a customer that way? And what is this obsession opposing schools have with UT's sign? To Texas fans, it's the equivalent of flipping someone the bird. If it is, as you say, simple and innocuous, why do it? The "Horns Down" sign is used not to cheer on your own team, but to shoot the finger at Texas. It's become the sign used not to pump your team up, but to try to cut Texas down to size. I've never walked up to ANY opposing fan or player and flashed the Hook 'em Horns sign in their face. But I've had countless OU, A&M and other fans look at my UT shirt and give me the Horns Down sign -- inches from my face -- yelling Texas sucks. Would those same fans walk away if I stuck the bird inches from their face? I hear that UT fans used to turn the Gig 'Em sign upside down when playing A&M, but never saw it when I was in school or since. If this still happens, it's juvenile too. So name me another school's sign that takes such abuse? Maybe it's stupid to have hand signs. If so, why did so many other schools follow the leads of Texas and A&M and create their own? I remember a Baylor quarterback completing a long TD pass (in the midst of a rout) and running down the field flashing the Horns Down at the UT bench. Not celebrating with his own team's Bear Claw Sic 'em sign, or promoting Baylor's traditions. But shooting the bird at UT's bench. But my favorite example occurred prior to last year's OU-BYU game. As ESPN cameras are roaming the Cowboys Stadium parking lot, they show BYU tailgaters flashing No. 1. Not "No, BYU, WE'RE No. 1!" They chose the moment to shoot Texas fans the bird. Then they watched their Sooners get beat. But they got to flash Horns Down on TV! So, so unique and classy. Hopefully this will start some thoughtful opinions on why some fans would rather rip on the other team than cheer on their own issue, not just UT-OU insults. But I doubt it.
