• Thing about the report of LBJ's team not listening to sign and trades: Something is better than nothing. If King James wants to walk, they can't stop him. They. Get. Nothing. If however, a team comes a courtin' with a Dampier-like sign and trade, and another warm body (Roddy B?) then that is something... which the last time I checked, is indeed better than nothing. The Mavs are laying really low (partially so they won't get fined again). But after the thrashing of a trade for Kidd, with Devean George effin it all up to the point we had to yank Keith Van Horn out of semi-retirement, I'm sure Cuban/Nelson will creep a lot quietly around the NBA trollin' for free agents. It's easy to say "they Mavs aren't a player" this off season. But you nevah know!

That is the Mavs' pathway to a title. Not Joe Johnson.

• Johnson would be an upgrade, but also a give-up move. Does it get them a little? Not likely. Al Jefferson I would be much more on board with.

• Johnson is a great outside shooter -- but that is all that he is. He doesn't drive the lane and doesn't play much defense. Does that really sound like what the Mavs need?

• I like both Joe Johnson and Al Jefferson, but can't give up Roddy B or Caron to get them. Dampier's expiring contract should be enough for a s+t on Joe or just a straight up trade for Al..use the MLE on the Old Aristotle..fill in with maybe Barnes and we're as ready as we have been. Believe in Tony Cubes, he's gonna provide (spend that cash, unlike Hicks) another opportunity for Dirk to go deep in the playoffs.

• Yes, take me off the list as well. It's obvious that Dirk needs an actual superstar to play alongside of him for the Mavs to contend for a title. Otherwise it'll be the same-ol same-ol--1st or 2nd round exit.

• Joe Johnson is the LAST big-name free-agent on my list for the Mavericks. This team needs toughness and needs it bad. Another guy who loves to fire up 20-footers will make for another entertaining 50-win regular season and a 1st or 2nd round playoff exit. Count me out.

• I'd be pumped to see Joe Johnson or Al Jefferson next season... but only as long as Caron and Roddy are still here. Johnson had a terrible series against Orlando, but the entire team had basically given up after having 95 three pointers stroked in their faces, and D. Howard dunking on them 43 times. I think he'd thrive here, especially with Dirk opening up the court for him. Jefferson is a beast with some great offensive skills around the basket... he would improve this team in the trenches.
