SMU Guard Gets Drafted By a Team That I Didn't Know Needed a Draft

I saw the Harlem Globetrotters not long ago but I'll admit, I had no idea they had a "draft."

You?

The world's most famous basketball team yesterday drafted the "Club Trillion" founder, a college slam dunk champion, a husband-wife couple and - lookie here - a dude from SMU.

That's right, SMU point guard Derek Williams is now a Harlem Globetrotter.

Williams, from Queens, N.Y., led the Mustangs in points, assists, minutes, field goals and free throws as a senior. He was the team's ironman, averaging nearly 37 minutes per game and logging a full 40 in 11 contests. The 6-1 spark plug also received All-Conference USA accolades.

He will be extended an invitation to fall training camp to vie for the honor of joining the Globetrotters for their 85th consecutive season of touring the world.

Shame on you, thinking coach Matt Doherty wasn't recruiting quality talent to the Hilltop.
