Wait, The Ticket Has Core Values?

I know. Too easy.

Actually, I'm not about to get all self-righteous and call 1310 AM The Ticket hypocritical. In fact, I'm shocked that producer/host Mike Bacsik's Twitter posts on Mavs-Spurs Game 4 warranted a suspension and not a gold star.

Not because they weren't, as the saying goes, hot sports opinions:

Congrats to all the dirty Mexicans in San Antonio.

im done with this F'in league and I might be done at the ticket.

But in the it's-all-fun-n-games world of The Ticket, this seems like it wouldn't get Bacsik a penalty, but more so his own show. Right?

If Bacsik would have altered his voice only slightly and invented a character, he could have gone on the air with these rants to a round of guffaws and back-slapping. One of my fave shows on The Ticket is The Orphanage and I'll be damned if I don't hear more offensive, outlandish stuff in the first 10 minutes each Saturday.

And, yes, on a given weekday you can hear these recorded drops on The Ticket:

(George Dunham, I think?) "I heard the Mexicans are dirty."

(Mike Rhyner) "Truck full of Mexicans."

Bacsik, who has since invoked Jesus - surprise! - in his apology, is guilty of TWI: Tweeting While Intoxicated. With alcohol. Or anger. Or raw emotion. Whatever. Maybe not to this racial extent, but we've all been there.

Haven't we?

Funniest part of the story is the statement from KTCK and Cumulus Vice President and Market Manager Dan Bennett.

Mike Bacsik's comments were unacceptable and offensive, and are inconsistent with the core values of KTCK and Cumulus. We have made the decision to suspend Mr. Bacsik with the hope that he will take this time to consider the insensitive and hurtful nature of his comments.

Seriously, the day The Ticket starts having more core values and less insensitive comments is the day ESPN and The Fan might actually have a chance to dent its dynasty. After all, when Rhyner offers his daily reprisal of "they can't do what we do" isn't this exactly what he's talking about?

I had heard that the best deals only appear about 2 months before departure date, as that is when airlines will try to get rid of their empty seats - has anyone heard this or am I all wrong. Mike Bacsik is a dumb jock who should've used better judgment, but as Richie points out this whole ordeal seems exaggerated and taken way overboard. Yes, Mike Bacsik is an idiot. Remember the dude didn't even know who Led Zeppelin was when Rhines/Corby brought them up to him awhile back. He's a dumbass, but it's pretty clear he was messing around on twitter, and not thinking clearly. Where the lines blur is was there any sincerity in his tweets or or a knee-jerk, drunken reaction to a frustrating Mavs game. The "dirty mexicans" line is pretty clearly Ticket-Drop derived and I think it's very important to have that in a context, something those unfamiliar with the Ticket obviously won't have. It is pretty lame he brought up the Religion Card during the PR spin though. Maybe you, Jesus, Buddha, and Tiger can chill for a bit, Chewbacsik.
This is not a fair depiction of George Dunham and Mike Rhyner. Their cited comments are taken out of context and made sarcastically. To compare them to the insensitive remarks made by Bacsik is not fair or accurate. If I were Dunham or Rhyner, I would consider suing you for defamation. This typical crap is why nobody reads this D-list publication!!! Stay hard ticket heads!
Wow, this was fast. Didn't even have time to play the rehab card. Bacsik deserved the suspension but not the firing. If this came down from Atlanta, no wonder Rhyner is always calling on the air for someone to buy the station.
Too bad he's been fired. He seems like a good guy who really screwed up. I'm not defending what he said, yes it was extremely offensive. I've heard a lot worse at NFL/NBA/MLB games over the years. If this were the old Ticket, under Susquehenna, Bascick would have been suspended for a week and that would have been that. But this is a PC firing, nothing more. It's not about what he said, it's about Cumulus having the "correct" appearance. Anyone remember Rhynes' comment about Jews? Or Gordo's behavior about JFK Jr.?

@RW Core values, insensitive remarks, et al lecture coming from a person that is intolerant of a person's religion, objectifies women as well as making insensitive remarks about women deemed "not worthy of his amorous advances" seems hypocritical.
Gordo just said the decision to fire him was made by the corporate home office, which I believe is in Atlanta, and it had nothing to do with the management in Dallas... I read that CNN got hold of the story, whose headquarters are also in Atlanta.

My only observation is that I hope this gets Bacsik fired. He sucks and is an embicile who can barely string together two syllable words. His weekend show with that dickweed from USC is hilarious (that is, if you find five car, eight fatality car wrecks humorous).
Just to be clear, I am not defending Bascik or sticking up for the Ticket. I am just pointing out that the quote stated that it was a positive post about the ticket is just untrue. No venom from me and I do not have an axe to grind with RW but I am trying to be Fair and Balance - but not in the Fox News version of F & B. I listen a little to the fan and even espn. I am not a p1 that needs validation of my choice of radio station by crapping on someone else. I like most of what happens on the ticket, but do not blindly follow those guys. They can go over the line and at that point, I change the station. I am disapointed that Bascik would tweet or say or even think those thoughts.
Funny... I expressed a lot of this in my comment to yesterday's Mavs post. That said, I agree with everything RW says in this post. Nicely done. Based on listening, the Ticket's core values are porn, divorce, sluts, ethnic stereotyping and weed.
the Hardline and Gordo have said things far worse than Bacsik; however, the Hispanic community doesnt nearly have the same robust activism that is seen from the Hispanics down in SA. and thats a fact. thats the reason this turned somewhat viral. the Ticket guys have gotten away with this for a long time - free of consequence. ironically, they sure as hell wouldn\'t pick on the black man like they do the mexican - they fear the JWP element picketing their building. the blacks wont stand one moment for this shit and the ticket guys know this. it was just a matter of time before this happened.
Even if I was offended and changed stations, your attempt to launch obituary talk as a daily segment changed my mind. I'd rather listen to Grubes trying too hard than The Fail not having a clue. The Ticket pushes the envelope far more every single day than that tweet, but I can understand the point of a suspension over it. It wasn't very bright on Bacsik's part. If this didn't happen I'm not sure The Fail would've even noticed the Mavs played.
@JM - RW could have come on here and talked about how "insert Ticket host here" is a diety and he'd really like to blow him, and the P1s on here would some how find a way to take offense to it. . You need to do nothing more than see RW make a post about how the Ticket dominates the ratings again....and then have it followed up by 47 P1's busting his balls and telling him he's just jealous. It's been that way for months. . The thin skin of the P1 is amusing....

The funny thing is that RW defends The Fan... the very same station that had Russ and all of his politically incorrect statements. The Fan as well as The Ticket make their money by riding the fine line. It wouldn't be fun otherwise.
No, Notafan, I'm sure Bascik had a hard decision to make at one point: Make millions throwing a baseball or make low to mid 5 digits by printing the internert for Norm every day while somehow managing to ignore the smells coming out of Norm after the daily block of cheese is eaten. My reaction to his dirty Mexican comment is as follows. "Meh" I think the bigger concern should be with his obssession with the lil Mavs. That dude takes losses harder than the Cubes does.
Bacsik is gone-yes! Now I can listen to the ticket from 10-2 again. If they got rid of Norm, I'd probably listen all day. Well, except when Bob and Dan talk about tv shows. Dan Bennett and core values? Just talk to any Ticket host in a private conversation and they'll tell you that is a crock. And congrats to the Ticket for having only 92% of the market not listen vs. 98% for ESPN. Wow are they both significant or what?
The truth is, there is a circle, a "trust tree" of protected names at KTCK, who CAN get away with just about anything - short of heavy drug problems. Obviously MB thought he was on that list. This ain't the MLB, anymore. Another former jock turned radio star who had some glassy-eyed potbelly old men marvel at his accomplishment. Oh well, there's always double or triple A ball. Never could understand why he came back to the Ticket in the first place as producer/on air talent. Either the money, or his pitching arm dried up.

The irony is getting pretty thick. Better grab some waders. Anybody that has spent more than one segment listening to the Ticket(other than Norm) has heard something at least as offensive as this. Bennett had to say something about "core values" and whatever other BS the spin doctors told him to say. Bacsik and his forcefield? Good job man, hang onto those cliches, they will protect you. I think he of the infamous long ball will not soon forget that his every keystroke is monitored by the dirty P1. He didn't holler down a well but tweeted it out for all the world to see. How many times does a white guy have to see other white guys get busted for saying something like this before he realizes he cannot say it in this context? Slap some overt humor on top of it and it is all good. Big Jim Jack under any other circumstances is likely to be explosive. If half of what went on in the afternoons on the Ticket were tweeted as a stand alone opinion then there would be more apologies and suspensions. Bacsik should understand that what happens inside the clubhouse is protected by the clubhouse.
My issue is Bascik gets a handslap but Corby made no less than 20 rape jokes during the draft.

RW - in case you weren't aware of this, George's statement "I heard the Mexicans are dirty" referred to the Mexican national soccer team. Listen to the Ticket a little more and you'd know that. BTW: the only "dirty Mexican" I saw at the game was Eduardo Najera. Suspension coming?

I think maybe what we are all missing is that perhaps Dan Bennett was making a joke of this as well. "Core Values" Really? That is already the joke crutch phrase of the year after Tiger used it. He had to appease the LULACs of the world with the suspension, but he knows that this goes on all day long up there. As a complete P1, I have to disagree with the attacks on RW for this one. I was reading the twitters as they happened, and they were purely out of intense anger and intoxication. Combining intense anger with massive amounts of alcohol usually always produces undesired results. He will not be fired. Most Ticket listeners apprecicate his sports brain, while every alcohol abuser empathizes with his tirade. I doubt he is any more of a racist than he is a building bomber... it was all just a big mistake which has probably caused him a significant amount of guilt. Good post, RW.

If a minority from out of town just turned the ticket on and started listening, they'd get offended probably because they don't know these guys. Richie, Check out Gordo's blog and watch his interview w/ Will Arnett. Those 4 minutes will tell you why the Fan will always be the Fail (Seriously, they talk radio and your PD might want to pull his head out of his ass and take notes).

I was watching the twitter stream during Sunday's Mavs game..and was rooting Bascik on..he goes crazy about his Mavs...poponjer called him out after the twit about if he had cancer he would bomb the NBA offices..after he said congrats to all the dirty Mexicans of SA..I twitted "WOW"..I think the bombing tweet was far worse than the Mexican tweet IMHO..can't believe RW waited til today to bring it up..his girlfriend must've looked at the internets last night while he was holding her cat.

It isn't about what you say. It's about the energy and intent behind it. RW, If you can't see that and differentiate, then I question if you are smart enough to comment on media matters, let alone be a part of the local sports media.
What Rhyner (whose is supposedly dead) means is that the Ticket does radio one can listen to for a long time - all day. The Fan can't do that - the Fan does radio you can't stand to listen to - you have to change stations after about 2 minutes because of yet another moronic caller who has no clue.
