Hey, it Could be Worse. Dwayne Goodrich Still Sits in Prison.

You think the current Dallas Cowboys are bumming today? Consider the plight of a former player, Dwayne Goodrich.

You remember Goodrich. Couple years back he speeds through an accident scene on I-35 and kills two Good Samaritans. Ring a bell?

Well, the good news for Goodrich is that in October he was paroled for the negligent homicide charge of his sentence. Bad news? Now he must serve part - possibly all - of the five years remaining for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop and render aid.

"There's no mandatory time or minimum stipulations because with this there was no deadly weapon involved," says Goodrich's Dallas-based attorney, Douglas Fletcher. "He's eligible for parole, but it's up to the discretion of the parole board."

Fletcher had hoped to get a blessing for Goodrich's early release in 2009 from the families of the victims, but it now appears the former top draft pick will remain out in Colorado City's Wallace Unit through 2010.

"Dwayne's in good shape and in good spirits," says Fletcher, who visited Goodrich last week. "Hopefully the board will see him as the model inmate that he is, he'll get a favorable review and get his release sometime this year. That's about the best we can hope for."

Somehow, 34-3 doesn't feel so bad does it?

Ofcourse what happened was a terrible accident. All I'm saying is he served his time and it would b good if he cancome out of prison and be productive again..he definitely should have went to jail no doubt about that but for how long should it have been for. My problem with that is the courts n prosecutors need to be consistent with these sentences regardless of color,race,gender. A lot of times these people get sentenced on color,racr,gender and what was the color race n gender of the person or people they have killed. Not right at all. By no means am I making excuses for Mr goodrich and I am not siding with him at all...with crimes like this I just feel none wins. My heart goes out to all three families n the the man who suffered while assisting in the accident. Mr goodrich..I am not sure if u read the serenity prayer but take a look at it from time to time. It helps trust me

The last time I checked we were all sinners. Many of those that find it easy to condemn his poor actions are the very ones that probably go to church every Sunday. Just because we go sit in a garage doesn't make us a car. However, God made it very clear that he is not a respector of persons. He is also very clear that one sin is not greater than another sin. Sin is sin in his eyes. Those finding it so hard to condemn him, your lie is as sinful as his crime in God's eyes. Those without sin, you have the right to cast the first stone - I have a feeling that no one will be casting that stone though. It was an accident, a very terrible accident. I can't say that I wouldn't be angered, but we must learn to forgive and not seek to understand God's ultimate will. It was always written that they'd perish in that manner. I can't say that I'd do the same thing as he did, but I think he panicked (?spelling). Sometimes we do the wrong thing when we panic and don't know what to do. Let's practice a little forgiveness, as we could easily be in his shoes and accidently kill someone to. We'd want a little mercy if we KNOW that it truly was an accident. Afterall, hasn't God shown us mercy and forgiveness. That's the only way we can enter heaven is if we forgive those that trespass against us.
My phrase invites visitors to reply unreservedly and without the benefit of limit as long as some of those replies fall inside specific variables. This kind of sentence encompasses a world-wide-web in-joke that does not really fit the topic.
I'll be honest. I'm a bandwagon fan of whomever is winning a lot of ball games. Pats, Cowboys, 49ers, Steelers, Chicago Bulls, Yankees, Braves, Florida Gators, Alabama Crimson Tide (this year only), USC, Texas Longhorns (2005), etc. I'm also a life long Chicago Cubs fan just so that I can say that I'm a life-long sufferer. Man, I hope they break the curse this year! I'm always going up to Chicago during summers with Dr.g. After a day game, we'll hit the Cubby Bear for a little while, then, once it's dark, go to Halsted St. where all the gay bars are. It's commonly referred to as "Boystown". Then it's off to the hotel to see who can stuff the most sausage in a "deep dish pizza" if you know what I'm saying. scott rules

@Dr.g: The deadly weapon isn't involved in the two remaining charges, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to stop and render aid. He has already been paroled on the charge that involved the deadly weapon. I hope he has to serve the remaining five years and then violates his parole within months of being free. He killed two people and is getting off with an extremely light sentence.

Considering that he killed two people, I'd say he got off easy. I feel no sympathy for him.
I think he is innocent. I watched him play for two years and never saw him hit anyone.
@ Westender: Yes, really. What Goodrich did was horrible. It was also his first offense. I'm far more worried about the public's safety when your jackass buddy gets out. He's had 3 tries and can't keep it together.

I am usually quite uncomfortable with the string 'em up mob mentality that masquerades as justice in the state of Texas, but I find it very difficult to find any aspect of this douche-bags plight to empathize with. I agree with Ted that my thoughts run to the families of those he killed rather than if Goodrich is in good spirits or not. And using this story as a pretext to provide perspective on yesterdays game is failed at best, and possibly just plain sorry.

RW, Not sure the purpose of your post. It seems like you are writing this wanting us to feel sorry for Goodrich. Surely that can't be. We are to feel sorry for someone who has served a couple of years for killing two people and is trying to weasel out of prison early? Seriously? Yes it was an accident, yes it wasn't intentional, but he screwed up and has to pay the consequenes. A couple of years for killing two Good Samaritans is not doing so. You should be writing abouthow "bummed" the families are of the people he killed, not about Goodrich having to actually serve his full sentence.
@RW, this series of posts is far worse than your QB ratings..eff effin Goodrich, he ran over two guys that were doing the right thing, trying to help out after a horrible wreck and one of them lost his life when this dumbass drove through the accident scene like he was playing effin Grand Theft Auto..waaaaaa...yep, I want to hear about how this P.O.S. is trying to get out on parole.. that being said if he was worth a shit as a football player man, Jerra would've been able to get something "done"..and that's horrible too.
