TCU = BCS. WTF?!

• A lot of animosity coming from some so called Horn fans on here. It must frustrate them to no end to be spending all that money, getting all those supposedly better recruits, getting a better tv contract, and supposedly better coaching, and on and on and yet, when you look up at the polls they are a whopping 1 spot ahead of us in the polls. However, TCU fans don't worry. Whenever a fake Texas fan starts mouthing off (real Texas fans don't do this), just ask them one simple question, "If they are such a great college football powerhouse, why only 1 national title in practically the last 40 years?" I mean even LSU and OU have more than that. Considering the size of the state, flagship program, 100,000+ fans at each home game, they are the ones who should be explaining themselves, not us. We do far more with less and our success is glaringly obvious to them.

• Missy, I'm not worried about people dogging our schedule because I know that if we win out, we're in. And my first post was an answer to a TCU fan talking about our schedule being weak. And I think it sucks that TCU won't get a legitmate shot at the National Championship if they win out. I'd love a playoff to see how TCU would fare against SEC and Big 12 teams with a championship appearance on the line.

• Uh, Facts, if you want to know how UT got dragged into this, read Shoulder's first post. Or your first post. UT fans dragged UT fans into this, not the other way around. I posted to answer the original question - whether TCU was our team or their team. And then I said that TCU was the second best team in Texas and Air Force could hang with Missouri. You seem a little sensitive. Maybe that is because people are dogging your schedule this year. Sucks doesn't it? Of course, my team is destined to at best win out the season, play in a BCS bowl by some miracle, and then - if we win that game - it will be dismissed because whoever we played was so bummed that they didn't win that they didn't show up. Ask Utah about last year. So, I'm going to keep pointing out that TCU's strength of schedule isn't nearly as weak as the big BCS boys would like to believe, and I will do it until I'm blue in the face. Thats what a fan does.

• I think that OSU, OU, and Mizzou is VERY comparable to Clemson, BYU (who beat OU this year?), and Utah (#2 in BCS who beat Alabama last year); if not harder. Really!! I think that TCU and Texas are toe and toe, like the BCS says it is. If you check the computer rankings, TCU is actually ahead. In years past, I think that TCU would really be an upset to beat Texas. I don't think that it would be this year. If TCU can beat Utah, which would be a quality win for ANY team. And they were scheduled against Texas, the spread would be less than 7.

• Missy, I don't hate TCU. I just don't get the constant need of TCU fans to think they are the best team in Texas and could take down Texas each year TCU is good. Why is Texas even being brought up in this discussion? I honestly wish we had TCU in the Big 12 instead of Baylor given how good you guys are in football and baseball. I wish we could play you guys over a school like Rice or North Texas since we seem set on playing a teams from our state every year. And I touted Utah as a team that would improve our schedule had we played them since Utah playing TCU is why this whole discussion even got started. If TCU wins out, I'm pulling like hell for them against whatever team they play in the BCS.

• Oh, and Facts and Bradford's shoulder: I love that you both tout Utah as a team who would have improved your non-conference strength of schedule. I couldn't agree more.

• How is TCU not acting right? By saying that Air Force would be competitive with the likes of Colorado and Kansas. Sorry, but I didn't think that was such a stretch. And how really has UTs strength of schedule (or lack thereof) helped TCU at all? Last time I looked UT was still ranked AHEAD of a TCU. What has helped TCU is that we have been pretty consistently ranked in the top 25 since 2000, and as high as #7. Since Patterson has been at the helm, our defense has been consistently one of the top 10 in the country. We have beaten some solid teams from the established conferences - USC in '98, Oklahoma a couple years ago. Sure, we've lost some too - I'm sure you will remember beating us in 2007. I just don't get why so many people, primarily UT fans, hate on us.

It's strength of sched was affected by other teams dropping out (Utah/ark) and by zeroU sucking this year..osu and tech will both be ranked top 20-ish by the end of the year and it is what it is. We know it's hard for tcu to act right when they are ranked as high as they currently are...act like you've been there before froggies

• Missy, we talked about the Texas schedule early in this comments area. Texas HAD Utah and Arkansas on our schedule for this year until both schools backed out of the series, Utah in 2004 and Arkansas last year when they added the 10 year "rivalry game" with Texas A&M at Jerryworld. Texas has trouble finding big name opponents who will do a home and home series with us. Michigan, in fact, wanted a 2 for 1 deal where we would go to Ann Arbor twice and they only come to Austin once. We even have had trouble with smaller schools agreeing to come to Austin first. Wyoming and UCF both wanted Texas to travel to their stadiums first before they would make the trip to Austin. We have UCLA on the schedule for 2010 and 2011, Ole Miss in 2012 and 2013, and Cal and Minnesota in 2015 and 2016. There's a rumor of a series in the works with USC for 2019 and 2020. And yes the Big 12 is down this year. But going on the road to Fort Collins and Provo is not the same as going to Columbia and Stillwater. Sure Air Force would be competitive against the teams you talked about but I doubt they would ever be the favorite to win any of those games.

• Houston (CUSA) and ATM (5-4) beat Tech. Colorado (3-6) beat Kansas. Iowa State (5-5) beat Nebraska. The Big 12 isn't what it used to be, at least not this year. I'm not saying Air Force would walk all over any of those teams, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be competitive. Speaking of competitive, want to compare TCU's non conference schedule to UTs? Wait - let me guess - we're going to talk about something else, right? TCU is the second best football team in Texas. I'll take that.

AF is a nice service academy but they don't get the same athletes as Big 12 schools and you know it. But keep telling yourself they can hang with Big 12 teams. • TCU is MY team! I was at TCU during the old SWC days when we played Tech, A&M, Baylor, and UT. Our team wasn't great, but we played out hearts out and competed with those current Big 12 teams every week. I dare to say that with better coaching (Pat Sullivan v. Gary Patterson), a much more solid recruiting base (thanks LT & the Schoebles for getting our name out there), and an aobviously smaller group of just as loyal fans (7,000 v. 50,000)we'd be able to compete in the Big 12 just like we did in the SWC. I'm sure we too can take on the likes of Mizzou and Iowa State. We've played the Big 12 heavyweights and went 1-1. Sounds competitive to me. So bring on the naysayers. TCU IS MY TEAM!!!

• DrG, what got us killed in the BCS rankings last year was a late season loss at Tech and a nice little Big12 tie breaker...Lil Froggies are familiar with late season crushing your season type losses, I seem to remember one about 3/4 years back when they had crawled pretty high in the polls, I actually pull for the froggies. They are a nice little team, and I for one loved the old SWC and the chance to take over AmonCarter stadium every other year.

• Wow. A couple of groups yell in your face so therefore our entire fan base are classless. Have you not been to many away games? I get stuff said to me any time I go on the road for a Texas game, win or lose. If you're that sensitive, you might just want to stay in Fort Worth. And how was I especially degrading your team? I think Gary Patterson is one of the best coaches in CFB. What he does with the resources he has at TCU is pretty amazing. Your defense is the real deal. That said, TCU would have a tough time being undefeated playing the same 3 game stretch of OU in Dallas, @ Mizzou, and @ Oklahoma State. Sure the Big 12 is down this year but playing OU, Mizzou and oSu isn't the same as playing Mountain West teams. I'd love to settle this on the field but our corrupt bowl system doesn't allow that to happen. I'd love a playoff to determine if TCU is for real or not. I certainly haven't seen a Gary Patterson team finish a season undefeated before. I'd love him to prove me wrong this year. You guys have a great team. But the best in Texas? You guys need to take that chip off your shoulder and focus on winning out first before you declare yourselves a contender.

• BYU was good "by chance"??? You need to check YOUR facts--- They've ended the last 3 seasons ranked in the top 25 and have won 10-11 games each of those years. They're easily the most nationally recognizable team in our conference. And, in reference to the AF win--we won, it was sleeting, and we played in their house, not in 70 degree Texas weather on a neutral field. And, like AF, OU isn't ranked--along with 9 other Big 12 schools. The ACC has more ranked teams than the Big 12. And Clemson has a shot at a Conference Title. That's settled.

• "Facts"- This TCU team is exponentially better than our 2007 team that led you at half in Austin two years ago. Our starting QB was a freshman in '07 and has drastically improved now in his 3rd year. And since you're being especially degrading to my team, I will also throw out that I've never experienced a more class-less group of winning fans than when we went to UT. One would expect the winner to at least be gracious, but not the Horns. A group of my pledge brothers and I had a couple groups come yell in our faces while we were walking across campus. They say money can't buy class. TCU would beg to differ. Go Frogs.

• Horns-you're not the only big-boy in Texas. Your current student body is about 80% the size of our entire living alumni base, so we expect a little less media glory, but don't play like we have no fans. I guarantee the proportion of true, committed alumni at TCU is far greater than that at UT. Take this Saturday's game as an indicator. With 7,200 undergrads and a 44,000 seat stadium, we've sold 5 seats for every 1 student, over half of our living alumni base. When Texas plays at home, they put one fan per every current student in the stadium. We may be the minority in North Texas, but we're the loud minority. TCU played along side Texas in '07, and that was the worst season we've had in the last 5. It was in Austin, and Brown was too scared to do and 1 and 1 deal. Nobody wants to play in Fort Worth because we're the team that runs with the best but gets too little respect. We crush seasons for our opponents, and we do it in their home stadiums. We're about to take down last year's #2 (Utah). Who, might I add, ended 2008 ranked higher than the Horns. Sadly, there's really no way we can end up in the same BCS Bowl. UT is probably headed to the NC Game, and TCU will probably end up in the Sugar or Fiesta. But, watch your backs in College Station. There will be tons of Frogs wearing maroon that day. TCU is the real deal. We're not the TCU of the Southwest Conference. In fact, kicking us out was the best thing that could've happened for our program in the long-run. Make the short drive to University and Berry in Fort Worth and find out for yourself. And we're one of the best, if not the best, in the nation.

• Dude, you guys also scheduled Texas State. A damn 1AA. Let's not go overboard with how great your schedule is. You lucked into BYU being good this year and Clemson being in a horrible conference. You only beat Air Force by 3. Air Force. At least our close victory by 3 was over our biggest rival on a neutral field with half the stadium being their fans.

Look no further than Virginia. A vast majority of the time, schedule are made up to 6-10 years before the series is played. Texas and Ohio State's series in 2005 & 2006 was scheduled back in 1996 when John Mackovic was Texas' head coach. He even joked to Deloss that scheduling tOSU didn't matter because neither of them would probably be around to see it happen. To your other point, when TCU was coming to Austin for the last series, TCU fans were talking the same noise they are now about how they are the best school in Texas and just wait till they play Texas. I wish we could play again so we could send you back to Ft. Worth with your horny toad tails between your legs.

• Ohhhh...UT had Utah and Arkansas back out on them? That stinks. Of course, they could have gone on the road to play Clemson (or a similar team) because TCU didn't add that to the schedule until the last minute. Instead, they CHOSE to add Wyoming and Central Florida as replacements and then proceed to blame the other teams. It's not as if they were the only teams out there with open dates. Don't let the UT PR machine fool you.

• I actually think that UT had a little easier schedule and TCU this year. Clemson is looking at moving to the top of the ACC (a BCS conference) and BYU beat OU, right? And TCU killed BYU. Texas barely beat OU. What was the other game? OSU? Who would you put money on in Utah or BYU versus OSU? I think those are both pick 'em games. I don't think that TCU would stomp UT or the other way around, but I think the spread would be less than 7 for sure. If they stomp Utah, this could get interesting. Texas doesn;t have any other real games. What was their big win?? I don't think they have one. Also, the reason that TCU doesn't have a huge fan base, look at the actual number of students. Is there any other program that has that small of an enrollment and brings more students than TCU? No. They would have to bring every student that has attended the school for the last 6 years to fill that stadium. Plus, if you live in DFW, you know that The Cowboys are Football in that town. You try competing with Jerryworld.

Utah backed out because you guys joined the Mountain West and Urban Meyer didn't want two Texas trips on the schedule in one year. Arkansas backed out because they added their new "rivalry" game with the Aggies. Texas has a weak schedule because others backed out, not by choice. And exactly how did that last trip to Austin go for the Frogs? That's right. You lost. I'd love to play TCU just to shut you guys up. Try to go undefeated first and make a BCS game before you puff your horny chests out. You want to be taken seriously? Try to win all your games first.

I don't especially think Tex is going to lose, but please don't act as though it is an impossibility. Frankly, I see A&M with a better shot than Nebraska. If that happens, with the difficulty of UT's schedule dropping like a rock in a vaccum, I think the Frogs might sneak in, especially with wins over Clemson and Utah. You'd think UT fans would be able to remember for at least a calendar year what got them killed in the BCS rankings last season. I also think that Utah's showing against 'Bama was a eye catcher for many pollsters. I don't think TCU gets by a one loss SEC team, but a one loss Big 12 team is another story. Especially one that played a weaker schedule than Southlake Carroll.

• Mountain West Conference is the best argument for a playoff system. TCU has a legit argument for being included if it goes undefeated. Sure 1 loss SEC and Big 12 teams do too. <i>Champions may not win every game but they win when it counts</i> Let's give ourselves a playoff system using the bowls redistributed over Dec/Jan. As for TCU not having a fan base - Okay - legit point but damn it's a small school without the alumni that others have. It pulls a good crowd given the size of the city and alumni. Places like Nebraska, Tennessee, South Carolina, etc can pull 100K because there's nothing else to do on Sat but cook meth and make babies.

• WHEN Nebraska beats UT in the Big 12 Title Game, TCU might just advance and get their shot.

• Hate to break it to fellow Texans, but the only way TCU plays in the MNC is if the Horns tank to end the year (say, lose to A&M and then lose the Big 12 Championship in consecutive weeks). The SEC isn't giving up its hold on one of the title game spots, period. Unfortunately, even 1 loss SEC team makes it over TCU.

• Finally? Utah ending last season ranked #2 (and I think the only unbeaten, after having crushed Alabama in the Sugar Bown), isn't considered worthy?

• I live in NE Tarrant and I hate to say it, but TCU in NOBODY's team. They barely cause a blip on the local sports radar and that is mostly because they have such a weak fan base. Schools like OU, Tech and the like get more pub because there is MORE interest in them. Larger fan bases, bigger TV ratings and the like. I'm interested in the logic that assumes TCU will need help to play Texas. Why not 'Bama or the Gators? Texas' schedule gets softer and softer each week. Hell, TCU has the best win this year with a victory AT Clemson. Once again, Texas' high school non-conference may bite them.

• Richie: As a resident of the 817, I have been intrigued and a little pissed off at how the local sports media pretty much ignores the TCU football program. For the past five or so years, they are usually ranked and get double digit wins per season. Send guys to the NFL. But SMU gets far more coverage, especially by the radio and TV. Part of this is TCU's fault -- they don't have any local TV deals and it is hard to get their games on Versus and the Mountain West channel. Even in the Star-Telegram, the Horned Frogs take a backseat to UT or OU or TT. Is the media's treatment of TCU football just because the media would rather concentrate on the Dallas market, or is there something else going on here.

• I live in the Fort, and the frogs are a nice little team...hope UT takes care of business and makes the Rosebowl (I'll be watching them in the Deathstar on Dec 5th)...I would personally love to see the froggies there, cause then I know the Horns would win another title. Heady stuff for the little Christian school though, with Gameday there this week..they may actually sell out a game..
