Whether you're at the end of your rope of merely the end of your week, welcome to Whitt's End:

*Heard The Ticket was making a patented "major announcement" today. First reaction: It's moving Dallas Stars night games to a better signal, likely Cumulus brethren 93.3 FM or even 570 AM. But knowing those boys, it might just be that they landed Daryl Reaugh to headline Ticketstock '10. Or, maybe I'm the permanent Plus-1 after all?

*No, wait. I got it: You know the guy that Arlington ISD was going to bus all those students to see before they had to backtrack and cancel the trip after not letting those same students watch that other guy? Yeah, that's it! Translation: George Dubya Bush on with Norm Hitzges Monday. You heard it here first.

*I'm not saying Rangers' hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo should be fired. But after this season he should shoulder some blame and be examined/scrutinized with a high-powered microscope. I know he lost Michael Young and never really had Josh Hamilton, but the game's supposed best hitting instructor couldn't fix Chris Davis and the Rangers will snap 13 consecutive seasons of scoring 800+ runs. Bottom line: For the first time in their 37-year history the Rangers will miss the playoffs because of their bats.

*As for Giants-Cowboys (or any other home game in Arlington, for that matter), you've all told me to "get over it" so I'm not going to rant about the JumboJerry do-over rule. But if this scenario unfolds, I don't wanna hear a peep: Punting from New York's 45 and nursing a 6-point lead with less than a minute remaining, Cowboys' punter Mat McBriar sailed a beautiful, high spiral punt that - doink - hit the scoreboard. On the do-over, McBriar's punt was blocked and returned for a Giants' touchdown in one of the most bizarre, heart-breaking losses in the history of the franchise. Not. A. Peep.

*Socialist or not, you gotta high-five Barack Obama for calling Kanye West a "jackass." Right? Even though - truth be told - I still think it was all grand, scripted theater. Look what the stunt begat: Kanye's a courageous dude not afraid to stick up for his peeps. Beyonce has a video I've just got to see. Taylor Swift is an award-winning hottie I've just got to see more. And Brett Favre Jay Leno apparently has come out of retirement for a new talk show. Who knew? Obama's reaction was genuine. The rest of it? Faker than Serena Williams' sincerity.

*Betcha $1 Kanye's next album is entitled - you guessed it - JackAss. And all this time I thought Johnny Knoxville was Jackass.

*Drove over the Trinity River last week as it crested near flood stage. The stench reminded me what a bunch of dolts our city leaders are. Planning a park on top of a toilet? Really?

*Hot.

*Not.

*Two weeks from today we'll be a couple days into Mavericks' training camp. We still mad about Martin Gortat or do we even care?

*Patrick Swayze will always be "Sam" to me. 57 is too young man, too young.

*Eddie Izzard > Ricky Gervais.

*Karma schmarma, I don't fear the Swine Flu. In fact, I taunt it. Oink oink.

*Texas 52, Texas Tech 10. A preview.

RW..I'd be more than happy to take Tech plus the 42. Horns win, but in a closer game than many expect. You're correct about Rudy J. "Heavy hangs the head that wears the crown"....Rudy is regarded (by many) as the best hitting coach in the majors, he needs to live up to it. It took Chris Davis a trip to triple A to correct his problems. No one in Arlington could fix the problem? rudy is Overrated and his time to go away may have come. I don't care what Michael Young says (or Kinsler for that matter).

I likem your pickem on the TU/TT game RW...don't know about the Cowboys..I think we'll be extremely lucky to get a 1 point win..and will more than likely watch their defense and Big ass running back run all over us..Rudy needs to go, his time has passed.

The Ticket overblows their big announcements. In the history of letdowns, they occupy at least 5 spots in the top 10. Finally, a big guest.
I know it's going to kill Richie that Dubya is going to be on the radio :)

tex192 says:

@dr. g: yeah you are absolutely right. Rudy is horrendous, terrible. I mean what's he done as Rangers hitting coach??? 6400+ runs? Juan Gonzalez, Pudge Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro, list.goes.on.and.on.and.on?...hundreds of big leaguers endorsing his teachings? one of, if not the, longest tenured hitting coach in MLB? Yeah definitely, Rudy's got to go. Especially after this sorry excuse of a year when the Rangers are ONLY 16 games over .500 in mid Sept. No Really I think now is the time to get rid of the best hitting coach in the league...

(sheesh my tongue was getting cramped embedded in my cheek for so long)

eattrn says:

I will say it for you then Rudy needs to be fired. But I wouldn't blame the lack of post season only on the bats. They were still in the hunt before the pitching melt down of the last few weeks.

Posted On: Friday, Sep. 18 2009 @ 12:17PM
Eagle Watcher says:

@tex192

Well he may have been the hitting coach for the 6400+ runs, but I beleive that Steroids had a little...wait, a lot to do with that, especially when you single out those three guy. Rudy is gone, when you make more the manager and you owner is broke, that is the last contract they need to worry about extending

Posted On: Friday, Sep. 18 2009 @ 1:18PM
WashHater says:

I hate Rudy almost as much as I hate Washington. I said on this blog earlier in the season, the drastic difference in approach to at-bats by veterans with extended time under Rudy vs the younger players on this team make it clear to me that Rudy is teaching a different lesson than the rest of the organization. Toss in the fact that Davis had to go down for a month to find someone who could help him get his groove back...Rudy needs to go. Hamilton, Kinsler, Davis, Murphy, they all get up there and hack at the ball like madmen. Andrus, at least up until last week, was the most patient hitter on the team!

(By the way, Michael Young is exempt from all these discussions, he's a mutant or something.)

Posted On: Friday, Sep. 18 2009 @ 1:27PM
dr.g says:

@tex192...at some point, everyone ceases to be able to find "the magic"...It happened to Landry, Casey Stengal and will happen to Belicheck. Your post makes it sound as though those players would have been career .200 hitters without Rudy. While the Rangers have managed to score a ton of runs, look where it got them. They remain one of the WORST teams in all of baseball at hitting with runners in scoring position and they strike out WAY too much. Everything isn't Rudy's fault, but sometimes there needs to be a new voice in the room.

W should have been on with the Hardline. They could both talk about how they were great in the 90's, how wildly awesome and popular they were in 2001, how they were at least still better than the other guy in 2004 and how about this time last year both were so awful that anything would have been better and now they are so irrelevant that I keep forgetting they are still alive.

@ Kingo...I only pointed it out because the poster thought it was important to point out how stupid the masses were because they hadn't yet discovered that GWB was going to be Norm's guest. As for your post, it might be "your" wife, but certainly not "you" wife. Or even "whose" point as opposed to "who's". Please post again when your 4th grade class gets out.

Hey, where is that guy that corrects everyones spelling and grammar? I think your supposed to be commenting under the Jackie Floyd column over at DMN. She has topics you'll like such as parking, dogs and people who get dominated by the wife. Ohhhhh, your probably not allowed to use the computer in the rec yard until after lunch. Ahhhh prison-so crazy!

I only mentioned the spelling and grammar because the post happened to take a shot at me. I do find it interesting that those who know the difference between "their and they're" (and the like) are labeled as gay. And people wonder why our country is going to hell. Your post establishes you as a three toed sloth.

Funny that someone that works for such a failed station as The Fan would take shots at The Ticket.

Clearly you don't have an agenda against The Ticket. What a joke.

Maybe you should invite Greggo over for a pill party. Maybe a few eight balls.
