BREAKING NEWS: Brad 'n Babe Back For More
No luck.
"Just remember," the source cautioned, "CBS owns more stations than just The Fan in this market."
What I did come away with is this: Brad Sham, Babe Laufenberg and Kristi Scales have agreed to new contracts to remain in place as the Cowboys' game-day radio voices.
Also ...
Mickey Spagnola's daily "Dallas Cowboys Report" will commence on 105.3 The Fan shortly before training camp begins in San Antonio on July 29.
Sham will return for his 30th season calling Cowboys' games, his ninth alongside analyst Laufenberg. Scales, for my money the best sideline reporter in the business, enters her 17th season on Cowboys' radio broadcasts.
New stadium. New station. New P.A voice. New locker room sans Terrell Owens.
It's good to know some things with the Cowboys won't be changing.

In this economy, do we really need a sideline reporter? Not.
I'm so glad mickey is at the Fan. He was such a kick in the nuts to have to listen to. Like no Cowboy ever did anything wrong and everything was always roses no matter how bad of a game they played. Todd Archer is SO much better.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 8:51AMI don't understand this hatred for Mickey for being this homer. He was critical of the Cowboys throughout his stay at the Ticket. He is memorable though for a few high profile arguments with a couple of hosts (Junior/Sturm) where he defended the Cowboys. The hosts at times would attack or suggest certain things and Mickey would think them through and ask for the hosts' alternative (when they did not have good ones). I thought Mickey was pretty good and mostly even handed.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 9:23AMI didn't mind Mickey on Ranch Reports during training camp or during the season, but 90% of the off-season RRs were a beating because there was nothing to report. Guess we'll still have that problem if they stick with the same schedule.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 9:36AMsweet, another media/announcer post. is this a broadcast journalism blog??
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 9:43AMName one meaningful Cowboys story Mickey ever broke.

Boy, doesnt that say a lot. "The Fan- a bench so shallow we can't even come up with a guy qualified to do PA".
I've asked from teh get-go who the heck it might be, at least it sounds like you're getting confirmation of what I've been saying- the Fan has NO ONE that can do that job.
So who we talking about, Jody Dean? CBS is voicetracking shows left and right, they dont' have that many live bodies left...
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:18AMMickey was caught between a rock and hard place as Cowboys employee. I heard Cowboys felt obligated NOT to give Mick scoops ahead of other non-team-owned media members so as not to p-ss them off.
My critique of Mickey was his chip-on-the-shoulder attitude. Ever since the Morning News bought the Times-Herald and did not keep Mickey, Spags has seemed to take the following slant: All you fans and media members don't know as much as I do. And your opinions don't count because you're not as close to the team as I am.
One of my most hated sports talk (sorry non-Ticket fans, guy talk) crutches is throwing around the terms "everyone" and "no one." Count how many times even the best talk hosts use them.
Mickey was the king of saying everyone says the Cowboys need this, except me. Nobody thought the Cowboys were going to win except me.
Everyone and no one are never factually correct, but I'll let it slide except when it's used to bolster self-promoting arguments. Many may have thought this, or few may have thought that.
Perhaps Mickeroo was smart, because Dale Hansen has made tons of money taking one e-mail from a racist Cowboys fan complaining about Quincy Carter and turning it into a "everyone doesn't want Carter to be Cowboys QB because he's black" sensationalism.
Also give Mick credit for turning a layoff situation into a career covering America's Team. He's hustled up jobs.
But, I, for one, am glad to see Archer at The Ticket.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:28AMI will be missed and celebrated by all...please bring me my Michael Jackson super death cocktail
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:29AMThe Fan is carrying a big bag of nothing. A year from now they willbe changing formats and the Cowboys will be back on KRLD where they should be. By the way add Dale back to the mix with Babe and Brad
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:32AMRanch Reports 6 months of the year are good. The other 6, dead air is better.
I was hoping for Keith Jackson to takeover the PA.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:32AMMy split from the Cowboys was completely amicable. The Jones Family have treated me & my family with the such respect. Jerry wrote me a big check, bought me a new house on the lake next to the Hammer & he made Jerry Jr show me how to chnage the spare tire on my truck.Go Mean Green, I just vomited in my mouth..I mean Go Argyle
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 10:47AM@Tim...here's a meaningful story Mickey broke: He was the only guy on the radio or TV that went on the air and said that Jimmy was leaving for sure. Before the "lickfest" presser, there was much speculation and conjecture about the status of Jimmy/Jerrry. Mickey was on the air an hour before the press conference declaring that Jimmy was gone. I'd say that was a pretty big story he broke. I realize he does come off as a Cowboys homer, but more often than not, he just presents another side to arguments that most haven't or won't consider. I'd say getting people to look at a situation from another vantage point is the job of the press. Right, Richie?

Great. So the next meaningful story he breaks will mean he's on a 15 year cycle. I guess that means if Brad and Babe returning is meaningful, that Richie can take off till 2024...
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 12:03PMBased on the crowd in the sections I usually sit in at Cowboy games, perhaps they should get someone from Univision to do the PA.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 12:14PMdoes scott sams do pa at univ of tennessee games and he is in the cbs family. pow pow
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 12:28PM@Gordon Keith
The Cowboys are on KRLD right now that is both 1080AM & 105.3 FM.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 1:56PM@ Tim....your first post said "name ONE meaningful story that Spagnola broke?". I did and you had to come back with a doucher reply. If you would prefer a list in alphabetical order, let me know. In the mean time, pay attention and be specific about your requests....like this, for example: "Tim, why don't you eat shit and bark at the moon!"
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 2:21PMJerry Holmes' MJ Face Bleach Gun says:

That is effing hilarious. And true.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 3:30PMI thought 105.3 was a Tejano station. I guess I'm Ok with letting Dunham go as long as they get Shakira in the Cowboys booth.
Posted On: Friday, Jul. 10 2009 @ 6:24PMShakira may be nothing more than a glorified belly-dancer, but she's damn good at it! Good for Shakira taking over the 3-7 spot once held by the Hardline! I look forward to her insights on sports and all that that implies.
Posted On: Saturday, Jul. 11 2009 @ 12:41AMEvidently Gavin Spittle has gone to a Houston station.
Posted On: Saturday, Jul. 11 2009 @ 11:02PMdr g,youre joking, right? Spagnola broke the Jimmy story? thatd be a shock to the beat writers at the startlegram and the news, and probably to the mickaroo himself.
Posted On: Monday, Jul. 13 2009 @ 9:11PMWhat will be a bigger shock to Mickey is when he goes to make his first report and the Fan has switched to all Beatles all the time. He's the only Ticket cast-off left.
Posted On: Tuesday, Jul. 14 2009 @ 10:09AMgod this station sucks. . . wtf was cbs thinking?
oh yeah. . . they werent. par for the course?
