The Ticket Cowboys.gif
Not worthy of the "BREAKING NEWS" banner 'cuz, really, you read this about three months ago. Remember?

In the final analysis, these were strange bedfellows from the outset: The Cowboys, who rely upon an expansive signal, jumping under the sheets with a station that built its legacy in part by lampooning Dallas' football team.

To its credit, I never heard The Ticket back off its Cowboys criticism. To its credit, the Cowboys will find a station that will allow its programming to be heard south of I-20 and after dark.

Weird, Robert got the press release emailed to him over at Unfair Park. I didn't get one. Not even a text. Wonder what's up?

Jump for The Ticket's side of the divorce:

SPORTSRADIO 1310 THE TICKET AND DALLAS COWBOYS END MEDIA PARTNERSHIP

Dallas - Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket-KTCK/93.3 The Bone-KDBN and the Dallas Cowboys announced today that they have ended their three-year partnership to carry the team's play by play broadcasts.

The agreement began in 2006 and has been a success for both parties. Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket will continue their award winning coverage of the Cowboys on and off the field.

"This was a successful partnership for Cumulus over the past three seasons, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Cowboys in the future outside of their play by play broadcasts." said The Ticket Vice President and Market Manager Dan Bennett.

On January 16th, 2009 The Ticket and The Dallas Stars announced a new 5 year broadcast agreement that begins with the 2009/2010 season.

Commence countdown for CBS Radio (owner of KRLD, The Fan, etc.) to announces its partnership with the Cowboys .... Now.

Not bitter though, huh?

Wow can 105.3 The Fan get any worse.... YES

There should be an announcement coming soon of a new show over at 105.3 The Fan. Dallas-Fort Worth's newest sports talk station is planning to team Newy Scruggs and Sean Salisbury in the noon to 3 p.m. time slot.

Newy, of course, used to be at ESPN 103.3 FM and still calls Channel 5 home. Salisbury is another ESPN-ex. He was a big-time TV star who used to beat up on John Clayton before parting ways with the World Wide Leader in not so friendly circumstances last February. Ben & Skin will move to 3 to 7 p.m. I'm sure Tim Cowlishaw is moving with them for the daily two-hour "Three-Wide" segment. I can't confirm anything with Cowlishaw anymore. He has not be very chatty since I revealed his massive shortcomings as a fantasy baseball general manager.

Rhinosaur says:

The Ticket getting the Stars was the unoffical announcement of the Cowboys going bye-bye.

Baby Jesus Santa, please, do what Heavily Bearded says and move Mickey with the Cowboys. Him spewing his defense of Romo the past few days has been stomach-turning. And his 2 to 3 times a day announcement of "nothing's really going on here today" from the ranch is an automatic tune-out.

I'd love it if Newy and Salsbury Steak got that afternoon show. Dan can go back to making fun of Newy, and Salsbury will have an entirely new staff he can sexually harass. And as Greggo told Keyshawn, Salbury wasn't that good of a QB.

"Yeah...yeah."

And Richie, the reason you didn't get a press release is because nobody at The Ticket likes you anymore because you use your blog to point out their shortcomings, whether or not that's because you're bitter because the +1 Hardline deal didn't work out remains to be seen. (This paragraph wasn't as much for you but others who cannot read the text between the lines of your above-mentioned sarcasm.)

I think the Cowboys either overlooked or looked past The Ticket's signal, being able to only see their ratings. Why would Dallas' #1 sports team not be on Dallas' #1 sports radio station?

As a P1, I wasn't worried about what would happen when they signed the Cowboys, and I'm not worried that they are no longer going to be around. They never let up mocking or criticizing Jerry, Wade, Big Tuna, the players, and I don't expect anything to change now.

@Russ Martin's Elf: Wasn't listening this morning, but I've received several similar emails. No way it was me. No. 1, I'm not insisting The Ticket is going to fail, merely reporting what are some negative transactions: Losing listeners in PPM ratings, losing Friedo, losing the Cowboys. No. 2, if it was me, surely they would've had the balls to name me. Right?

Lowland Gorilla says:

Ben and Skin simply suck. When they filled in for the Hardline it was painful as getting your balls waxed. As for Newy and Salsbury, I would rather listen to Stephen Hawking and Frankenstein (or worse Pete Stein)
For 3 hours. Kevin Scott can work if they could pair him up with someone who would not get thrown of subject by a shinny thing in the corner of his eye. The Ticket still flops around the big 12 ponder in town and will until one of the other sports stations grows a pair and get some funny Yuk Monkeys and learn to kick each other in the nuts from time to time.

I read all of your posts and most of the comments left here and I have to wonder about the IQ of some of your readers. You report the truth and if the truth hurts them, then they should lie down in the fetal positon until it passes. As for you being bitter about not getting a spot on the show, I don't believe they chose anyone, so why would you be bitter? The people here posting jabs at you would NEVER have the balls to do it to your face. In fact, they would probably tell you that they love your stuff. They are only brave online.

Worried P1 says:

OK, they have me worried. So much so that here I am reading this blog. What is happening to the lil Ticket is alarming. I thought Norm was going to announce the death of someone this morning he sounded so hurt. Has the mass exodus from the Ticket really just starting? Hell, Dan from Bob and Dan just talked about looking at 5000 sq ft homes in Colleyville. Is he next to leave for more money? The Ticket is on my radio for one reason, they make me laugh. I really don't care about all sports, all the time. Just continue to make my every day routine a little less stressful. Sure, throw in some sports every now and then. But I live for Fake Jerry and emergency brakes. If Ticket types must leave for more money, I have no problem with that. I think we would all try to better ourselves. I hope the Ticket gets the last laugh in the end. And all of us P1s will continue to laugh, miss Greggo, and not change the radio dial. Sorry Froto.... What a great year for The Anti-Cowboy Faction.

WhereartthouGREGGO? says:

Ritchie,

Have you ever been invited back to the Ticket? What about Mr. Wilonsky? Has he been on the air? I can't recall hearing him in the recent past. I wonder if the Ticket's anger applies to the entire Observer?

Nick says:

It's funny & childish how, after kissing their @$$ for years, Richie now tries to take a crap on The Ticket every chance he gets. And he hides behind "news" and claims he still loves the Ticket just because he remembers Fax Fodder.

But it's also funny & childish that the Ticket is distancing from Richie now, considering they were the ones dumb enough let Corby decline to be interviewed.

Mr. Whitt I have nothing against you. I know you are trying to be as professional as you can. It's probably pretty tough when you have the P1's on you. However, with the above quote it sure sounds like your opinion is that The Ticket will fail. Don't shy away from your opinion like you did here:

"I'm not insisting The Ticket is going to fail, merely reporting what are some negative transactions: Losing listeners in PPM ratings, losing Friedo, losing the Cowboys."

Posted On: Friday, Jan. 23 2009 @ 8:43PM
Richie Whitt says:

@1310: I appreciate your level-headed comment. "Fail" is such a tricky word. Do I think The Ticket is going to "fail", as in fold up shop and cease to exist? Of course not. I just have facts and feelings that The Ticket will, however, "fail" to maintain the level of its long-lived dynasty of domination. When I said "last supper", I was hinting at looming changes. Some of which you've read about in the last couple days. Some which could still be in the offing.

Posted On: Friday, Jan. 23 2009 @ 9:51PM
Gravypan says:

I'm a P1 who still enjoys reading Richie's blogposts on a day-to-day basis. And I don't get the charges that Richie is intentionally being anti-Ticket.

If you really want that, go over to Barry Horn's blog. That guy refuses to mention anything about the Ticket on his blog, unless:

A) New ratings come out...and more often than not, they show The Ticket beating their sports radio competition.

B) The Ticket announces a new broadcast partnership with a new team, like the Stars.

C) The Ticket ends a broadcast partnership.

Otherwise, Barry's busy promoting Michael Irvin in whichever way he can. Probably because he's a regular guest on that show.

Uh, conflict of interest, anyone?

Name that Dude Singing Like a Rolling Stone says:

Here is the $1,000,0000 question....

If 95% of the Stars games are at night, how does anyone expect to hear the games if they are listening to it on the radio?

Once the sun goes down The Ticket's signal goes down too.

Sincerely,

No power in the tower

1310 says:

Richie,

You probably are right about the loyalty going down a bit. There will be those that move over to The Fan for something new and the eminent arrival of the Cowboys. I do believe that The Ticket will always have a very strong core of listeners that will stick with them through most changes. I will also go as far as to say that as long as The Ticket keeps the current line up that they have they will not slip from their #1 ranking in the books.

What would you have thought about Friedo moving to the Hardline as a co-host? He seems to be able to bring the same HSO's as Greggo did. He just doesn't have the "country wit" that Greggo had.

Also, what are you thoughts on BaD Radio leaving for The Fan? It would be a risky career move that could pay off big in the end if The Fan over takes The Ticket with their strong signal. I'm sure they could land a drive time slot. Sure they are loyal to the ticket but everyone has larger aspirations. Ex. Keith Olberman and Dan Patrick started at ESPN in the 90's and helped build it into the monster that it is today. Then each left to pursue a larger career beyond ESPN. Same with Rick Reilly leaving SI to get his feet wet in the TV industry with ESPN.

richie you are a tool. always have been. you live off this ticket speculation and soap opera crap. it is truly unreal. it is my favorite station and the hardline is my favorite show, still, even after the coked up fat ass left. anyway i bet you a big sum of cash nobody leaves that place. did you all hear last week the anniversary shows on the morning and afternoon? they love that place, as well they should. its their baby, and i love that damn baby. its too bad nobody responds to anything other than ticket stories, shows how well known the thing is.

1310 says:

@richietaint

Wow that was some constructive criticism, it had name calling and everything. I love the Ticket too so don't try and claim I'm a hater. The Ticket makes speculations everyday just like every other media outlet. Do you get mad when they criticize your favorite sports team as well? My point is, don't be so touchy when someone speculates bad things about your favorite radio station. Sooner or later things will have to change up there.

I am excited about this move. Sean Salisbury, Larry Brown would be great to hear pre/post Cowboys game. I use to be a P1, now
I listen to 105.3 just for Sean Salisbury. 1310 rarely talk sports, I want to hear about sports. Not where is Rhines is playing or what Gordo has done on his blog.
