Texas Stadium Finale - Fond Farewell Sign.jpgI never claimed to be a great writer. Even a worse photographer.

Nonetheless, armed with an iPhone and a life's worth of memories, I'd be honored if you'd allow me to take you on a tour of Texas Stadium's final night.

Follow me. Right this way.

Here it is. The house that Tex Schramm built and Tom Landry turned into an icon.

Texas Stadium Finale - Sign.jpgEverybody is nostalgic. Even, um, Santa Cowboy and his elves?

Texas Stadium Finale - Santa Landry.jpgLet's go in for one last spin around the joint, shall we?

The most famous tunnel in sports.

Texas Stadium Finale - Tunnel Down.jpg

Check out the walls. Every Super Bowl championship logo. Inspirational, no?

XII.

Texas Stadium Finale - Super Bowl XXVII.jpg XXVIII.

Texas Stadium Finale - Super Bowl XXVIII.jpgXXX.

Texas Stadium Finale - Super Bowl XXX.jpg

Five "World Championships", in case you're counting.

Texas Stadium Finale - World Champions.jpgOut of the tunnel ...

Texas Stadium Finale - Tunnel Out.jpgInto arguably - Yankee Stadium? Wrigley Field? Wembley Stadium? The Parthenon? - the most famous sports theater in the world.

Texas Stadium Finale - Wide View.jpgI'll miss this view.

Texas Stadium Finale - Goal Post View.jpg

And this one.

Texas Stadium Finale - End Zone Up.jpgYou-know-who's favorite peep hole.

Texas Stadium Finale - Hole in Roof.jpgLet's take a lap. Through the end zone.

Texas Stadium Finale - End Zone Helmet.jpgShoot, it's the last game, right? How about into the end zone?

Texas Stadium Finale - Helmet Star in End Zone.jpg

Stars on the wall.

Stars (Deion) on the field.

Bigger stars (Staubach) on the field.

Texas Stadium Finale - Staubach.jpgStars (Emmitt) on the NFL Netwook stage.

Even some Cowboys you haven't thought about in a long while.

Texas Stadium Finale - Pozderac.jpgIf only this bench could talk, oh the Cowboys' tales it could tell.

Texas Stadium Finale - Cowboys' Bench.jpg

Hey look, there's Jerry.

Texas Stadium Finale - Jerry Autographs.jpg

The Ring of Honor. Remember those three guys?

Texas Stadium Finale - Triplets ROH.jpg

Or him?

Texas Stadium Finale - Staubach ROH.jpg

No Ring of Honor is complete without The Man in the Funny Hat.

Texas Stadium Finale - Landry ROH.jpgBoooooooo!

Texas Stadium Finale - Replay Hood.jpg

The Stadium Club. Where Roman royalty sit in their pristine, protected environment and demand to be entertained by spartan gladiators.

Texas Stadium Finale - Stadium Club.jpg Gotta head up and actually do some work. Toward the tunnel.

Texas Stadium Finale - Tunnel In.jpg

Butt, you know I have to check out the cheerleaders first. Yeah, it's cold. Still, thumbs down on jackets.

Texas Stadium Finale - Cheerleaders.jpgUp the tunnel.

Texas Stadium Finale - Tunnel Up.jpgPast the Cowboys' locker room. Through that door has walked Landry. Jimmy, Staubach, Dorsett, Too Tall, Irvin, Lilly ...

Texas Stadium Finale - Cowboys' Locker Room.jpgUp to the press box ...

Texas Stadium Finale - Press Box.jpgInto my seat ...

Texas Stadium Finale - Observer Seat.jpgNational Anthem ... player intros ... balloons ... and ... action!

Texas Stadium Finale - Pre-Game Balloons.jpg

Somehow, these Cowboys lost this game.

Dead Man Talking?

Texas Stadium Finale - Wade.jpg For the last, harsh time, a fallen star.

Texas Stadium Finale - Star.jpg

Ouch. Texas Stadium's tombstone.

Texas Stadium Finale - Scoreboard.jpgNext stop, Arlington. - Richie Whitt

Great memories, but time to move on. sure we admire Jerry's passion for the game, but maybe it's time for a new general manager. Jones shoots from the hip more than Romo.

East Texas P1 says:

I heard a preacher the other day who started out the eulogy the other day with the intro, "When there is nothing that can be said, what can you say?". That is very appropriate at this time.

There is so much to be said about this team that there is absolutely nothing that can be said.

At this point I am only reminded of an interview Norm Hitzges had with Jerry Jones some years ago. Norm asked Jerry that if he (Jerry) bought the team today and the current GM was 10 seasons or so without a playoff win, would Jerry keep him as a GM. (For those who don't know, Jerry Jones functions as the owner AND the GM.)

Jerry Jones himmed and hawed, stuttered and never actually answered the question. As Norm would say "One final question...."

Parcells has brought the Dolphins to the playoffs in one year. Was there something holding him back (wink: the owner) here in Dallas?

Farewell to a great stadium. I flew over it when I changed planes in Dallas flying American Airlines & watching those Thanksgiving Day Classics. My favorite was the 1974 Thanksgiving Day Classic when Clint Longley threw a 50 yard bomb to Drew Pearson in the closing minutes.
