Well, it’s Not Called the Writer Cup

Categories: Fore!
This Dallas golfer took out his giant, gaudy belt buckle and whipped Europe's ass. Nice.

Man, I haven’t been this wrong since I touted this guy to be your son’s next role model.

But, gladly, I’ll admit I was ass-backward incorrect about the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Without Tiger Woods, I didn’t think we had a chance against the Euros. But – worst of all sins – I underestimated the local boys.

Laying on the couch yesterday – and I mean all day yesterday – it occurred to me that not only did the Americans produce their largest shellacking of Europe (16 ½ - 11 ½) since 1981, but they did so behind three Dallasite golfers: Anthony Kim, Hunter Mahan and Justin Leonard.

Kim, Leonard and Mahan, in fact, combined to score more than half the U.S. points. Leonard was steady throughout the first two days, Mahan hit the event’s loudest putt yesterday on 17 and Kim was the spunky surprise of the tournament, on Sunday deliciously shrinking cocky-ass Spaniard Sergio Garcia into a quiet little bitch.

Accept my apologies. And my adulation. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go out and frequent one of Dallas’ courses. -- Richie Whitt
