Your Weekend Forecast: T.O., Greggo and Lame-O

Fri May 16, 2008 at 08:00:41 AM
Where's Greggo? Would you believe sitting beside Mike Doocy come Sunday night?

If you think Terrell Owens was just sooo believable and charming in his sit-com acting debut. If you can’t wait to see Greg Williams again. If you want proof why I became a writer instead of a TV talking head.

Any or all of those? Well this, my friend, is your lucky weekend.

In what I like to call "Triumphs of the Uncluttered Mind," Owens will commandeer a nationally syndicated radio station this afternoon, yours truly will stammer through some sporty color analysis tomorrow night and on Sunday your ol’ friend The Hammer will make his first TV appearance since leaving KTCK 1310 AM The Ticket’s Hardline last October.

Ready, set, jump for the juicy details.

FRIDAY, 2 p.m. – T.O., fresh off an appearance on My27’s The Fresh Flav of Bel-Air, will host the syndicated-yet-obscure talk show, The Ride with Doug & DeDe, which pretty much looks like the worst show in the history of organized radio.

Owens will take calls, spin his own playlist and share microphones with Doug & Dede, whose show “combines entertainment and news with relationship advice.” Ten bucks says T.O. also refers to himself in the third person and drops at least one pass.

Listen live, or drive south to the nearest city that airs the show.

SATURDAY, 7 p.m. – To heighten awareness of their underrated product, the Frisco RoughRiders are having 12 games televised this season.

To increase the entertainment value of those broadcasts, they are inviting local “celebrities” to provide color analysis. To prove this must be Take-a-Legit-Celebrity-on-an-Out-of-Town-Excursion Weekend across the Metroplex, they somehow stooped to asked me.

Tune in to TXA 21 and feel free to critique my performance as I provide knee-jerk overreactions and totally abstract anecdotes when the RoughRiders host the hated San Antonio Missions live from Dr Pepper Ballpark. Or, join my family and friends in mashing the mute button and giggling at how I look like Pat Green with an even receding-er hairline.

But be warned: I hear one boo directed toward the booth and I swear I’ll swipe the P.A. microphone in the bottom of the seventh and make Tony Romo sound like David Archuleta.

I’ll be “working” alongside RoughRiders play-by-play voice and Lone Star Emmy Award winner Scott Garner. Which isn’t intimidating at all, being that I was temporarily groomed for the world of multimedia by this clown.

SUNDAY, 10 p.m. – For all those still rhetorically asking “Where’s Greggo?,” at least for 30 minutes you’ll get an actual answer as the late, great Williams resurfaces on Sports Sunday with Mike Doocy’s “Open Mike” segment on KDFW Fox 4.

Williams, who, you may remember, walked off The Hardline last Oct. 12, settled his unlawful termination suit against The Ticket two weeks ago and is this afternoon having yet another face-to-face meeting with ESPN program director Tom Lee about a possible weeknight show.

(And before you ask, yes, my Williams tell-all feature for the dead tree version of The Sportatorium is in motion and, yes, it will be worth the wait.)

“I’ll be as truthful as I can be,” Williams told me late last night about his appearance with Doocy. “I’m going to talk sports and if he wants me to address The Ticket stuff, hey, I’m not gonna lie about. I can’t run from it.”

As part of what he calls “getting back to the real me,” Williams is selling his Turtle Creek condo and moving permanently to his house on Lake Granbury. Since you can no longer stay hard, at least stay tuned. -- Richie Whitt

Name that Dude Singing Like a Rolling Stone says:

Who's this Greggo you speak of? Damn Richie!! About damn time.

Sincerely,
For Crying out Loud

Georges Dried E says:

I can stay hard Richie and I will stay tuned. And I would like to see that Contract.

Scott says:

Technically, you can't say 'about damn time' until you actually see the article.

Damn Richie, damn!!

Dale Hansen says:

I am calling in sick and having George Riba work, I want to watch the Hammer. Maybe he will call in sick to FOX 4 and Doocy can play the Greggo sick dropp. Hey Reagan

Walt says:

rumor has it Greggo is claiming that the Ticket wanted to run him off cuz his "Q" rating was higher than Rhyner's.
I'm not sure I buy into that one, but who knows.

Zerba says:

Lay off the sick

MushMouth says:

his "Q" rating

I saw what you did there...
How about that tie he had on?

Jesse Jackson says:

Greggo did well. He looks good and I'm hoping that he's back on the air soon.

sterling says:

Richie, I know it could be impossible to say since you're completely dependent on others, but will this tell-all story be more likely to come in June, after he settles somewhere or maybe not even until 2009?

Hint: There'll be more than fireworks around this Fourth of July.

Mark Perez says:

racist greggo did poorly and looks like a drug addict and hoping he is never back on the air

jk wilson says:

so happy greg made an appearance on
Fox 4. hope he continues to do well and have a permanent gig somewhere real soon!i will never give up on him!everyone has issues and the same thing could happen to someone else. hang in there greg!

stink monkey says:

Bravo Greggo for not turning tail and running from the DFW area. I think he did a fantastic job taking full responsibility for his situation and knows that he has a hard career battle to fight not to mention the daily battle of addiction. It pains me to see the bashing Greggo has taken from former listeners of his, I am not excusing his actions but it pisses me off when people continue to ignore substance abuse in sports icons but cannot forgive a sports broacaster in the same way. Greggo in no means ever had to share his first visit to rehab years ago on air. Maybe because he has been so open it is felt that bashing him is acceptable. At least the man has owned his problem and it trying to make good out of a bad situation.

Bravo Greggo!! Cannot wait to see you in some type of media here in the DFW area.

gb says:

I was worried that the HL would suffer without greggo. It has somewhat, but not in the way i suspected. I feared that the whole affair between 3 and 7 would be an alter to rhyners fragile ego. I was wrong. Corby and Danny stand up to rhyner in ways and to degrees greggo never did.

Greggo always sought to appease rhyner, corby doesn't.

Now robot rhyner still goes through the all of the formatics in his same predictable way. Misusing big words in the manner pseudo intellectuals do. But now corby calls him out on sports topics and exposes how rhyner retreats when pressed.

rhyner may have invented the ticket and should be thanked for that. but the emperor has no clothes and every day without a validating yes man proves it.

anticorb says:

Bottom-line...Qweerby Dorkinson is a show-hogging, self-important, talentless, blistering pain in the ass!!! I can't stand this idiot!!!
