Two Sniveling Little Brats from Willy Wonka Will Be at the Alamo Drafthouse Tonight

Categories: Film and TV

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was the go-to screening for teachers during union strikes, rainy recesses or just to grab a smoke break to prevent them from tranforming into the headmaster from Pink Floyd's "The Wall."

Even though it is not totally faithful to Roald Dahl's famous children's book, Wonka is still a classic standby for kids with great characters and wild imaginations. Plus it remains one of Gene Wilder's most ingenious performances. Those kids who won the ultra rare chance to tour Wonka's mysterious factory, however, came very close to stealing Wilder's spotlight. They set a new standard for snottiness and really gave the audience some truly awful characters to hate.

Two of the most downright rotten children in the film included the television obsessed Mike TeeVee played by Paris Themmen and the ultra spoiled Veruca Salt played by Julie Dawn Cole. They exhibited levels of materialism and greed that made the gang from the original Dawn of the Dead resemble a zombie apocalypse movie starring Mother Teresa.

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema's "Action Pack" will have both actors from the original film in attendance for a special screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at 7 p.m. tonight in Richardson as part of their "Ultimate Willy Wonka Party." Those who attend the screening will also get to talk with the actors in an open Q&A and receive an autographed poster signed by Themmen and Cole. We assume there will also a ton of candy on hand for you to stuff into your fat face while a plucky, young poor kid watches you in jealous disgust while finding new reasons to be thankful what little he has in his life.
