Naked Women will Recite Southern Literature in Deep Ellum on Friday

Let's be honest: Most of us who enjoy reading give in to the act appropriately for any long-term relationship. When climbing into bed with the new George Saunders, sweatpants are often involved. Unmatched socks? Well, they're dear friends too. It's hard to say whether or not we've brushed our teeth but the boudoir's sexytime lighting -- a three-spotlight ceiling fan -- is set at "energy efficient." Meow.

Such is not the case during Naked Girls Reading, which returns for its second presentation at Quixotic World this Friday evening. Yes, it's exactly what the title implies, but also a bit more. Here is the librarian fantasy you were promised: seductive turn of the century furniture cushioning the tenderly derobed rumps of plucky young literary babes. The strip-readers leave no detail ignored and take great care to glam up what's left, filtering their pin-up hair and make-up through the dancing flicker of candlelight. Some will wear high heels.

In these vulnerable positions hinged around complete exposure, they -- the titular Naked Girls -- will coax you in further with their favorite stories from the hot side of the Mason-Dixon in a new collection called "Southern Drawl." The presenters handle their own literary curation, and organizer Black Mariah says the theme is an especially popular one with this batch. Mark Twain in particular, has stumbled to the front of the julep-soaked line, with each nude reader doling out at least one of his tales.

Who else will Black Mariah, Angi B Lovely, Courtney Crave, The Dirty Blonde and Austin's Glam Amour choose to polish off from Southern literature's great china cabinet? And what does it look like when women dress up -- or rather, down -- simply to read? And why must women be naked all the time for absolutely everything? Find out on Friday. Tickets are $15 and it's BYOB. Also, no cameras so don't be skeevy.

Pornographic? They're sitting and reading, not hosting an orgy.

Or you could try *going* to the show, where you might learn that the majority of the audience is, in fact, women.
