12 Awesome Things to Do in Dallas This Weekend, January 31 to February 3

See this guy do this thing tonight at Phantasm! (See Thursday)

Brace yo' selves: This weekend's charging out of the gate with two fashion shows, a boozy tattoo party and underground art. Oh, and did someone say there was a football game on Sunday? DON'T PANIC. We've broken it all down for you.

Find the details by clicking the event's titles, and make sure you share this list with your favorite party gang -- it's never too early to make a plan. I'll see you out there. (I'll be the one cheering irrationally loud for Beyoncé.)

Thursday, 1.31
Phantasm at Basement Gallery -- If you like breakdancing, art and burgers, you'll want to make an appearance at the Basement Gallery (formerly Underworld Gallery) tonight. That's when Penny Kim, mig L Barjas and Rondo Estrello bring your photographs, acrylics and beats from the flip side. World Champion pop locker, Poppin' John, breaks it down in slow-mo at 10 p.m.

Fashion Cited, Little Black Dress Party
-- Coco believed that every women should have one, and Fashion Cited agrees. Tonight the group takes over Conduit Gallery for a fundraiser challenge where local fashion designers show off their best basic cocktail wear. You can vote for your favorite, then the winner gets honored at the main event on March 28th. The evening is really about more than frocks, because while the fashion will be fabulous, your ten dollar ticket goes to Legal Hospice of Texas. That's a pattern we can all agree on.

Sassy Pants Screening with Filmmaker Q&A -- "I aspire to be part John Waters and part John Hughes," said filmmaker Coley Sohn to the Observer. Her new film, flushed out of an earlier short, gets a local screening on Thursday, thanks to Women in Film Dallas.

An Evening with Fur Faced Boy at Public Trust
-- Ha Mai, the human behind the hairy handle, wasn't always a captain of industry. Nope, he used to be a normal employee, just like the rest of us. But then he took the plunge, started his own brand and launched a career of self-bossing. He's going to rap about the transition, answer questions and sell a totally bitchin' limited edition Public Trust collaboration t shirt tonight at 7 p.m.

Drumline Live!
-- Every good southerner knows that a football team is only as strong as its drumline. This touring production features the most spectacular, flashiest, out of sight drumliners from around the country and gives them an all-star showcase. Yes, that IS awesome.

Just making a correction -- the Observer website says tonight's Tuaca event "Drinks and Ink - Dallas" is at Southside on Lamar (the loft apartment building). Its NOT! It's at South Side Music Hall right next door, at 1135 South Lamar. Spread the word!
