At Social Science, the Perot Museum Lets Grown-ups Get Boozy, Race Dinosaurs

A dream comes true for the young and drunk at heart this January, as the Perot Museum announces a new program called Social Science. It will be a series of late night parties geared strictly for adults, with cash bars spread throughout the venue's many levels. That means you can dork-out on guest presentations led by inventors, lecturers and science researchers in the most civilized way possible: half-drunk.

The geek dream dates will happen quarterly, with the first event scheduled for Friday, January 18.

Each of the four, 2013 editions is themed, and the first topic tackled is "Ingenuity." Carrying the concept throughout, the museum has partnered up with Make Zine and The Idea Engine to build an interactive area for the night called the Creation Station. Guest presenter Dr. Sandra Bond Chapman will teach how to "Make Your Brain Smarter," and Pro Maker Christian Genco, will compose synth-heavy music by eating breakfast foods on a homemade device. AWESOME.

Those globetrotting superstars of the Dallas Black Dance Theater will be on hand teaching hip hop moves, which after a few signature cocktails should get easier. If not, well, surrender and visit the kindly robot on level two that patiently teaches Tai Chi. (Since the night is ankle-biter free, go ahead and play greedily with the motion-triggered, flying hawk exhibition without feeling like a total jerk.)

Go here to get your tickets for January. Future dates' themes are Gastronomy, Relationships and Sound. Tickets range $8 to $15, depending on time purchased and membership status. Social Sciences runs from 7 to 11p.m.

This is done in many other museums across the country, especially in my adopted hometown, Chicago. Fun.

I'm so happy the museum is doing this, however, every 3rd Friday of every month is also Dallas Museum of Arts Late Nights. Are these events going to coincide every month? How to choose?

@Kim McLean These parties are quarterly, so they only happen four times a year. Good stuff!
