12 Awesome Things To Do In Dallas This Weekend, August 16 to 19
Your work lifeclock is blinking erratically; time to dash into the weekend. Oh yeah, it's time to break those cubical chains and shake your ass at Ladies Stay Crazy, wear your aviators to a Top Gun themed sketch comedy night or indulge your sci-fi fantasies with screenings of Logan's Run and an H.P. Lovecraft double feature. Go ahead and share this list with your friends and click the event titles for more information. I'll see you out there. (I'll be the one running.)
Logan's Run at the Dallas Museum of Art's Horchow Auditorium -- Beyond being mandatory viewing for anyone turning 30, Logan's Run was filmed (mostly) in Dallas and Fort Worth. That made it a candidate for Dallas On Film, a summer series pulled together by the Dallas Film Society and the Dallas Museum of Art, and tonight you get to watch Logan and Jessica 6 outrun their blinking hand jewels and discover what cats look like. Also, you'll learn that Carrousel sounds a lot more fun than it actually is. Dallas Center for Architecture's program director, Greg Brown, will teach you about the local buildings that make cameos throughout the film. (It's free with museum admission.)
Latino Fashion Week -- It's a giant runway affair! Also, it's a great chance to check out upcoming and established designers from exotic places that you can't afford to visit, like Peru, Colombia and Puerto Rico, and it's happening tonight at Lofty Spaces.
RAW Dallas presents Radiate -- This new series brings together local filmmakers, artists, jewelry designers and fashion stars, then it drops them all at Texas Theatre and lets 'em do their thing. For you, that means a one-stop visit will fill you in on who's doing cool shit around town. Oh, and everything is for sale, so you can leave with something completely original tucked under your arm. Great.
Party in the Park -- It's week two of Party in the Park, a limited run Thursday happy hour series held in various Dallas parks and plazas. They announced today's location! You'll be knocking back Crispin, Blue Moon, Guinness and some domestics at Ferris Plaza. Bring cash. It starts at 5 p.m.
Ladies Stay Crazy at Texas Theatre -- Typical ladies nights go like this: Some sleazy bar manager chums the waters with cheap drinks; women smell the open gin and dart in from all directions; a bunch of dudes wait around creepily to catch them at their drunkest. It's the circle of gross. That isn't how Ladies Stay Crazy rolls. Nope. Sure, there's drink specials. There's also a judgement-free attitude, so dress in whatever makes you happy -- be it comfort pajamas and a tiara or stilettos and your old prom dress. And it's at Texas Theatre, which is a creeper-free zone. So go on girl, go 'head, git down.
Naked Girls Reading -- Yes, it's that simple. On Friday, five naked girls will read fairy tales at Quixotic World. You can watch them, as they read naked. Also, they'll be naked. Did I mention...Naked?
Chris Tucker -- He's been in everything from Friday to Rush Hour, but tonight he's getting back to his stand-up roots. Check it out. He's at the Verizon Theatre.
