Founded, owned and operated by photographers, Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery has firmly established itself as one of the city's very best venues for artistic photography, pulling in a number of acclaimed artists from around the world. As its name would suggest, the gallery has, since its inception in 1995, focused almost exclusively on a particular type of art.

But yesterday the gallery unexpectedly intimated plans to branch out into new media, with the announcement of a fall exhibition by sculptor Jesús Moroles.

The Texas-born Moroles' sculptures are found worldwide -- according to PDNB, "his most visible public sculpture, Lapstrake 1987, is a massive 22 foot tall, 64-ton work located across from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City," and his public work can also be found in Texas, most notably the Houston Police Officers Memorial.

His upcoming exhibition at PDNB Gallery, Rings of Granite, contains "small sculptures from his CORE series, as well as several large, suspended rings of granite." With an opening reception and book signing from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on September 8, Rings of Granite will run through November 24 at 1202 Dragon St. Correction: While Moroles will appear for a book signing (date TBA), he will not be available at the opening reception on September 8. Updates forthcoming.
