Getting RAW: Fashion, Art and Music Gel in One Slammin' Showcase
d.p.c. brings wearable fashion with an exotic edge to RAW on Sunday.
I have this theory that Dallas needs one great party to unite its creative classes. This Sunday's RAW: Natural Born Artists seems like a page ripped straight from my dream journal. A new-to-Dallas showcase, RAW's "Mixology" event features visual art from 20 local creatives, a spoken word poet, a band, a DJ, a short film showcase and a full-on runway affair by local designer d.p.c., who's collection made my heart race at the Pin Show earlier this year.
Catch this RAW installment (we hear there are future events in the works) on Sunday at Texas Theatre where, according to Aubrie Nesuda, RAW Dallas' director, "The upstairs area will be set up for visual artists as well as a space for the fashion designer to have a table. Visual artists will also have run of downstairs, so they'll take over the whole venue beginning at 8 p.m."
Once you've absorbed all of that art (Gosh, I hope they use T.T.'s newly created "David Lynch Room" for the trippier stuff.), grab a chair. Get all cozy for quickies by Click Clack Short Films, a video production company that believes marathon-length movies are for people with nothing better to do. They're sprinters, exclusively.
Spoken word poet Tro'juan Soule will take over after the credits roll, helping your eyes and mind adjust to the shift in lighting. What's that? You want music? Done. That damn poppy band RoomFour is going to throw a whole set at you. Wear comfy shoes, cause you might just wanna shake it. Stray Nimbus is also on the evening's playlist, so you better like your music like you like your Doritos: effin' extreme.

Closing out the show is a runway production by Dora Yim, the designing mainframe behind the local label d.p.c. Yim's collaborating with hair and make-up artists to create an over-the-top catwalk scandal for you. Don't worry, it's the kind of scandal that makes you want to buy clothes, not change the privacy settings on your Facebook profile. Everyone participating is local and ready to show off, so go scope it out. Tickets online are only ten bucks.
