Free Screening of 1975 Exploitation Flick, Darktown Strutters, Tonight at Texas Theatre

What are my thoughts on Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff? Put a ring on it.

Texas Theatre's newest weekly installment, Tuesday Night Trash, is just another example of how this privately-owned venue is awesoming up Dallas. The series is designed to show the rare, under-exposed and peculiar footnotes in cinematic history. They haven't been gussied up, either. So if you like that pop you get from an old record, or the way a photograph blurs a bit over time then you're a great candidate for tonight's screening of Darktown Strutters (Get Down and Boogie).

This comedy/musical/blacksploitation/femalesploitation flick from 1975 was directed by William Witney, who got his start by shooting Roy Rodgers movies in the '50s. It was all downhill from there. He went on to be known as a king of B-films and Darktown Strutters showcases that with wild woman street flair.

The film carries a loose plot: A hard-rolling, all-female, African-American, headdress rocking, hot rod gang is on a mission to kick a lot of ass, shake a lot of booty and locate one of the member's missing mother. It'll add the shimmy to your shake, the fizz to your pop and best of all it's free.

Catch tonight's free Tuesday Night Trash screening of Darktown Strutters at 9 p.m. at Texas Theatre. There will be drink specials, so you won't gin your way out of tomorrow's rent payment.

I like a lot of things about this, but specifically how you've made "gin" into a verb.
