Five Great Leslie Nielsen Moments (Video) Since He'll Be Naked at the Inwood

"This is Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Throw down your guns, and come on out with your hands up. Or come on out, then throw down your guns, whichever way you wanna do it. Just remember the two key elements here: one, guns to be thrown down; two, come on out!"

By now you probably already have plans for this weekend but I'm going to need you to go ahead and cancel what you're doing and head to Landmark's Inwood Theatre because this Friday and Saturday only they're showing David Zucker's The Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell Of Fear at midnight.

Late last year we lost the guy who played our hero in the Naked Gun trilogy, the beloved Leslie Nielsen. I had the pleasure of meeting Nielsen three years ago at the San Diego Comic-Con and yes, he's was just as goofy in real life as he was in the movies he starred in -- and I say this with the utmost respect and admiration. Nielsen is the accidental hero of spoof comedy so Shirley* you can make an attempt to see him on the big screen one of these nights, for a mere $10.

*Nielsen famously said "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley" in Airplane! (evidence provided after the jump), but I like puns and had to run it. I'm not sorry.

While you wait in anticipation of Neilsen on the big screen, here are my five favorite moments from the Leslie Nielsen:

Farting on the Morning Show

Naked Gun hospital scene with O.J. Simpson

Naked Gun baseball scene

Airplane! "Don't call me Shirley" scene

Spy Hard scene

And for future late night entertainment, here's the Inwood Midnight Madness lineup through September 10:

The Room - July 15 and 16
Taxi Driver - July 22 and 23
Pee-wee's Big Adventure - July 29 and 30
Batman Begins - August 5 and 6
Tremors - August 12 and 13
The Room - August 19 and 20
Quadrophenia - August 26 and 27
A Clockwork Orange - September 2 and 3
Dark Crystal - September 9 and 10

It's a crying shame that neither Nielsen nor Lloyd Bridges are still alive.  If not for both of them, Airplane wouldn't have been half as funny as it turned out to be.  The above Naked Gun clip where they're in the hospital is priceless.

As goofball as SPY HARD is, I love the above mentioned scene so much. Great comedic humor we don't see much of, anymore.
