Dallas Native David Sena Opens New Exhibit Tomorrow With Live Firework Painting

Remember when you were a kid and your parents told you not to play with matches? We're almost certain David Sena's parents forgot to tell him that fire is dangerous, but that's only served him well.

The Dallas native has made a name for himself as a renowned tattoo artist, but Sena also creates art with an unusual tool, fireworks. Sena uses sparklers and other small TNT-fueled paintbrushes to create "firework paintings" on paper, and the results are modern, abstract works that surprisingly don't smell like a campfire.

Sena's studio is in Brooklyn, but the artist is in town this week for the opening of his new exhibit, DFW Back-N-Attack, at The Gallery Interiors. The exhibit opens tomorrow night, just in time for the Fourth of July, with a cocktail reception and special live firework painting from Sena. One lucky guest will win the raffle for a signed Sena painting, and the painting he creates live tomorrow night will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Dallas Children's Hospital. The reception begins at 7, and Sena will light up the canvas at 8:30 p.m.

If you can't make it to tomorrow night's reception, watch Sena create a firework painting at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night. The exhibit runs from June 28 through July 31. To RSVP for either reception, email service@thegalleryinteriors.com. Admission to both events is free.
