The Beach Boys, Marilyn Manson and This Week's Show Announcements

The Beach Boys, back in the day

For decades, The Beach Boys have been a diluted version of their former selves, touring with the likes of John Stamos on bongos. Since Brian Wilson was fired in 1982, the band never really topped the greatness of 1988's "Kokomo." Rumors of bad blood circulated around the remaining band members and Wilson, who has recorded under his own name since the late '80s. But late last year, it was announced Wilson would rejoin the band for a new album and a tour.

That tour will pass through town on Thursday, April 26, at Verizon Theatre. Tickets will be on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. at AXS.com for $25 to $85. Hopefully Uncle Jesse will be nowhere in sight.

Speaking of bad blood, er, fake blood rather, Marilyn Manson will be at the Palladium Ballroom on Friday, May 11. He'll be joined by The Pretty Reckless for what we assume will be a greatest hits tour. Not like the guy has made a dent in pop culture since the '90s, amiright?

Mayer Hawthorne, Mint Condition and This Week's Show Announcements

Mayer Hawthorne loves old school Dallas soul music.
In just a few weeks, Dallas bridge enthusiasts will be graced by a performance from The Relatives, a classic Dallas soul group that seems to prefer Austin's audiences to that of their hometown.

But they're not the only '60s/'70s Dallas soul band whose name has resurfaced recently. Just last year we reported that The Festivals' "You've Got The Makings of a Lover" was covered by Mayer Hawthorne, who announced this week that he'll perform at the Palladium Ballroom on Friday, April 27.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. at AXS.com.

In other old-school R&B/soul show announcement news -- and with a nod to Audra's favorite Dallas radio station -- Mint Condition will be at House of Blues on Thursday, April 5. The year was 1991, and the 11-year-old version of me had no idea what unrequited love was but, damn, "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)" was sad for some reason.

Tickets for this show will go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m. at Live Nation.

With Arms Wide Shut: Creed To Play Verizon Theatre

Creed

Looks like the 2012 apocalypse predicted by the Mayans is taking a completely unexpected form. That's right: Creed has announced a tour that will come to Grand Prairie's Verizon Theatre on Wednesday, May 12 -- right around the time their forthcoming record is rumored to be released.

Ticket prices range from $29.50 to $75 and will be available through Live Nation starting on Friday at 10 a.m. We only ask that you consider the last thing you will hear in this life: Scott Stapp slapping the sound of an R on every syllable, just before the earth swallows you whole.

Spiritualized, Olivia Tremor Control and Other Show Announcements

jason-portraits-01.jpg
Jason Pierce, high on life.
With all Jason Pierce has been through over the past two decades, it's a wonder he's still alive. Even more miraculous: His band, Spiritualized, is still together. Even though his drug-heavy days are behind him, Spiritualized's recent albums are still just as hazy as Pure Phase and Lazer Guided Melodies.

A few months ago, the band announced a new album, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, will be out in March, and on Monday the band announced a tour that will pass through the Granada Theater on Tuesday, May 15. Tickets for this show will be available at the Granada ticket website for $30 to $49. A steal for the show they'll put on.

Parade of Flesh has been busy lately. Seems likes Bro Fest news trickles in daily, and now there's this: The promoter is teaming up with Tactics Productions to bring in legendary Elephant Six act Olivia Tremor Control. The show will take place at Sons of Hermann Hall on Friday, April 27. Supporting acts will be Woods and Dallas' The Deathray Davies.

Tickets for the show are going for $14 over at the Parade of Flesh or Tactics Productions websites.

Florence and the Machine, Eddie Vedder and More Show Announcements

Hold up, the Machine, I got this.

If there is a current British Invasion, it's being led by UK's high-charting indie-pop band Florence and the Machine. They're so hot right now. It didn't hurt that they had a song featured at the end of one of the Twilight movies, which, in the music world, is like being given a lifetime supply of money. Now that the band has released their sophomore album, Ceremonials, to warm critical reception, they're taking the show on the road.

Florence and the Machine will be at Palladium Ballroom on Tuesday, May 1. Tickets go on sale for $39.50 at AXS.com on Friday, January 27, at 10 a.m.

If you can't think about the term British Invasion without thinking about Oasis, then this next show might be up your alley. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder will be at Fair Park Music Hall on Monday, April 30, accompanied only by a ukulele. The Frames' Glen Hansard will open the show. Tickets go on sale February 3 at Frontgate for $78.50. However, if you belong to the Pearl Jam fan club you can get in on a pre-sale.

Check out the rest of this week's show announcements.

Death Cab For Cutie

For those Dallas music fans who put Death Cab For Cutie's Codes and Keys in your favorite albums of 2011 file, this bit of news will be interesting. Death Cab For Cutie have announced a performance at McFarlin Auditorium on Friday, May 4. Here's where it gets interesting: The indie pop anti-heroes will be joined by Magik*Magik Orchestra, an eight-piece classical outfit who will add a new twist to Death Cab's musical arrangements.

Also joining the bill for its second stop in North Texas, Youth Lagoon will open the show. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. January 27 at AXS.com with prices ranging from $30 to $45, the price of a scholarly second-hand tweed coat (essential wearing for the Death Cab fan). More >>

Girls at Granada, Yann Tiersen at Trees and More Show Announcements

girls_250.jpg
Girls

One of the biggest records of 2011 came from San Fransisco's Girls, who successfully mine early rock and roll influences to create notable and at times brilliant albums. Gorilla Vs. Bear has championed the band for years, and the blog is bringing Girls to the Granada Theater on Friday, March 9.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at the Granada's ticket website for $16.

In other show announcements news, French composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen is finally making up for the show he canceled last February after being caught in a snow storm (you know, the one that almost ruined the Super Bowl?). Tiersen will be at Trees (!) on Thursday, May 17. No word on tickets yet, but stay tuned and enjoy the rest of this week's show announcements. There's some good stuff in there.

UPDATE: Red Hot Chili Peppers Reschedule Dallas Date For October

rhcp.jpg
Red Hot Chili Peppers. Is there no end to their zaniness?

In the days leading up to Friday night's How The Edge Stole Christmas, KDGE 102.1-FM The Edge's annual holiday music festival at Grand Prairie's Verizon Theatre, the radio station talked up a big concert announcement that was to be made sometime during the show.

Turns out it was a pretty big announcement. Red Hot Chili Peppers have added a Dallas date to their ever expanding world tour. On Friday, March 9 (suspiciously close to South By Southwest), The Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at American Airlines Center.

UPDATE 1/11/12: Red Hot Chili Peppers have rescheduled their sold-out March 9 show at American Airlines Center to October 2. Singer Anthony Kiedis is recovering from surgery due to a "crushed sesamoid bone."
