Sore Losers
This weekend is a big one for Sore Losers, who are celebrating the release of their new EP, We Are Sore Losers, at Trees on Saturday night. Joining them on the bill is Dallas Cowboy Martellus "I Love Cap N Crunch" Bennett, as well as a host of other local hip-hop acts.

If you're less than impressed with Marty B's performance on the field for the last, uh, his entire career, then there are other options.

We mentioned Bad Design's weekend shows, Fate Lions at the Kessler tonight, Legsweeper at 406 Arts and The O's at the Kessler tomorrow.

El Cento, Leatherbag, Tony Ferraro and the Satans of Soft Rock
Friday, February 3, at The Grotto
You gotta hand it to Tony Ferraro: His band-naming abilities have improved vastly since the days of his former band, Eaton Lake Tonics. Not sure yet how his band sounds, but we can speak for El Cento, or as I like to call him, The Cento. His take on '70s pop-punk is energetic and fun enough to turn The Grotto into El Grotto for just one night.

Eleven Hundred Springs, Sons of Fathers, The Possum Posse
Friday, February 3, at Granada Theater
Seems like Eleven Hundred Springs are playing North Texas at least once a month. Hard to blame them. You get the feeling road life is something these guys were meant to do. And since this is their record release show, you can expect to see them a lot more in the near future.

Shelby Lynne at the Kessler and the Best of Your Weekend

Shelby Lynne
It's kind of hard to look the other way when you see that Shelby Lynne's coming to Dallas, and the Kessler Theater of all venues. Should be a great, intimate place to catch a handful of the country star's hits.

That's just the start.

We already mentioned Daniel Hart at El Sibil on Saturday and on the same night, Calvin Harris at Zouk. But there are plenty of others we should talk about.

Erykah Badu Is Sold Out, But There's Loretta Lynn, The Boom Boom Box and More

Erykah Badu
Ah yes, it feels like we're finding our footing, 2012. You started off slow, but this weekend's concert list proves you're finally on track. Erykah Badu & The Cannabinoids at the Granada Theater tonight probably tops the list of shows to see, but we already talked about that show in this week's print edition (not to mention, it's sold out), along with the following:

The Boom Boom Box release their new record at La Grange on Saturday.

Eccotone, Fungi Girls at Queen City Hall on Saturday.

Loretta Lynn at the Winspear Opera House on Sunday.

But that's not all. There are more. Many more.

Burning Hotels at Granada, Triple Play at the Kessler and Your Weekend Shows

The Local Edge presents The Burning Hotels on Saturday at Granada
There's a good handful of shows in town this weekend, including The Local Edge's showcase with Burning Hotels, Mon Julien (Cory Watson of Black Tie Dynasty), Air Review and Menkena at the Granada Theater tomorrow night.

Triple Play: Hunter Hendrickson, Spooky Folk, Exit 380
Friday, January 13, at the Kessler Theater

This is the first of a new series being put on by Dallas Observer and Kessler Theater, in which a band is selected from each city in the Golden Triangle and put on the same bill. Denton's Spooky Folk are the bright spot on the bill, but it might be worth it to get there early for Exit 380's acoustic Southern rock, and stick around from Hunter Hendrickson's blues.

Wu-Tang Clan
Friday, January 13, at House Of Blues

Please see our detailed infographic to see which Wu-Tang members may or may not show up tonight.

Dada Turns One, Willie Nelson at Billy Bob's Texas and This Weekend's Shows

Categories: Good Friday

Happy B, Dada!
It feels kind of weird writing the words "Dada turns one," seeing as the place has been a Dallas rock and roll institution since I spent my Friday nights watching TGIF. Granted, that was only up until a few years ago, but the place has been around forever. In 2010, however, it closed and with a new ownership and renovation, reopened in 2011. So, take some time this weekend and stop in for a drink.

Or not. In which case, there are plenty of other options for you, starting with the ones we've already mentioned this week.

Tonight, Willie Nelson will be at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth, and in Oak Cliff, The Gourds will perform at The Kessler Theater. Also, Austin's Bright Light Social Hour will be at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios with Fresh Millions.

On Saturday, The Virgin Wolves will be at La Grange in Deep Ellum, and at the Texas Theatre, you can celebrate Bowie and Elvis' shared birthday with a karaoke party, Heartbreak on Mars III. Also, Fever In the Funkhouse reunites for a show at Poor David's Pub, Darstar and Sea Lion will be at Prophet Bar, and Blackstone Rangers will be at 2826 Arnetic with Kiwi Sisters and Jakkk-E-Chan.

But that's not all. There are a plenty of other options, unless you'd rather stay in and watch TGIF.

Good Friday Thursday: New Year Edition

Categories: Good Friday
Lights All Night.jpg
Last weekend was a little dead, y'know with Christmas and all, but this weekend is the opposite. In fact, there are so many New Year's Eve events worth checking out that we've got a separate massive list here.

The biggest one, though, is easily the Dallas Observer-sponsored Lights All Night festival on Friday and Saturday night at the Dallas Convention Center. Diplo, Neon Indian, Ghostland Observatory, Girl Talk and more will perform the electronic music festival.

But if cutting loose on a dance floor wasn't one of your New Year's resolutions in 2011, there are plenty of other options for you, starting with ones we've already mentioned this week.

Tonight, Hayes Carll will be at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth, and Discipline celebrates its first anniversary at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios. Also, Robert Earl Keen will be at House of Blues.

On Friday, Seryn, Doug Burr and David Ramirez will be at the Kessler Theater.

On Saturday, Catch Astronautalis, GalleryCat and The Rich Girls at Dada, Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights, Ishi and Kirby Brown at the Granada Theater, The Polyphonic Spree, Centro-Matic and Deathray Davies at House Of Blues, Quintron & Miss Pussycat at Zubar, and Mind Spiders and Leg Sweeper at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios.

On Sunday, Mustard Seed with Phillip Todd Brewer will be at Balcony Club.

That's not all, though. Hit the jump to see more of this weekend's events.

Good Friday Thursday: Christmas Weekend Edition

ADd_Holiday_Podcast.jpg
Hey, remember that best local hip-hop post we ran the other day? The one that mentioned A.Dd+?

Well, the aforementioned duo, along with the help of DJ Sober, put out a special WADD Radio Holiday Podcast, featuring classic holiday hits, hilarious between-song banter, and they even took phone calls. Though there are plenty of reasons to go out this long weekend, this is a pretty good reason to stay in.

Should you decide not to brave the crowds this holiday weekend, let the A.Dd+ podcast be your holiday radio program.

But, if you decide to go out, there are plenty of options for you, starting with the ones we mentioned already this week.

Tonight, Tori Amos will perform at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, and The Mohicans perform at 2826 Arnetic.

On Friday, Red Animal War, The Me-Thinks and Bad Design will be at Double-Wide, and The JC Experience will be at La Grange.

On Saturday, Balcony Club is one of the few places open, with live music from Kenny Daniel.

On Sunday, also at Balcony Club, Mustard Seed with Phillip Todd Brewer will perform live jazz.

And, on Monday, Parade Of Flesh brings Chrismukkuh with Center Divider, Eyes, Wings and Many Other Things, Leslie Sisson and Dim Locator to City Tavern.

Hit the jump to see even more of this weekend's shows.

Telegraph Canyon headlines A Spune Christmas at Dada
It's a big weekend for shows any way you cut it. Tonight's A Spune Christmas party at Dada with Telegraph Canyon and Air Review is certainly one of your better options, especially if you like free tacos and free beer. Saturday night, however, is stacked with shows.

It's going to be hard to decide which ones to go to, but pay close attention because we've got a list of worthwhile concerts, starting with the ones we've been talking about all week.

Tonight, Jack Ingram will be at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth, and also in Cowtown, Charlie Mars will be at Lola's Saloon.

On Saturday, Lizard Lounge celebrates 20 years in business with a performance from Moby, Devin The Dude will be at Granada Theater, Man Or Astro-man?, and Mind Spiders will be at Sons of Hermann Hall, Bob Seger will be taking care of business at American Airlines Center, and Daniel Hart, Comrade and Matthew and the Arrogant Sea will be at City Tavern. Also, check out The Gorehounds at Bryan Street Tavern, and over at Pastime Tavern, Mallwalker, Spacebeach, Xander Harris and Eyes, Wings & Many Other Things will perform.

That's not all. Hit the jump for more of this weekend's shows.

The Polyphonic Spree's Holiday Extravaganza, and More Weekend Shows

Categories: Good Friday

It's a big weekend for music indeed. A lot of holiday parties are going on, the biggest of which is being put on by The Polyphonic Spree, who, as you can see from the above video of them doing "Dancey Dance Time" with Yo Gabba Gabba, are quite kid-friendly. In fact, they're encouraging fans to bring their kids to the Lakewood Theater on Saturday night for their Holiday Extravaganza, where they'll have real snow, zoo animals, and photos with Santa.

But if you don't have kids, or don't even like them, there are plenty of other options to choose from this weekend. Here's a list, starting with the ones we've already mentioned.

Tonight, Jonathan Byrd will be at Uncle Calvin's Coffee House, and Bettysoo will be at All Good Cafe. Also, Ray Wylie Hubbard will be at the Kessler Theater, and Larry Gee will celebrate the release of his new record at The Prophet Bar. Oh yeah, Elkhart will play at City Tavern, and Exit 380 will release their new record at Lola's Saloon tonight and at Dada tomorrow. Should you find yourself in Denton, hit up Dead Week at Rubber Gloves for performances by Datahowler, Botany and Summer of Glaciers.

On Saturday, Digitalism will be at Granada Theater with Dub Assembly and Data Romance, and Chicago is performing some sort of Christmas show at Allen Event Center. Also, bring your flashlight to El Sibil, where Ocelot, Mystery Skulls and Analog Rebellion are performing at a flashlight party.

And on Sunday, Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform their speed metal Christmas songs at Amercian Airlines Center.

But that's not all. More of this weekend's shows after the jump.

DJ Contest at Artopia and the Best Shows in Town This Weekend

Categories: Good Friday
artopia 1.png
As we mentioned on Tuesday, this year's edition of the Dallas Observer-sponsored Artopia event on Saturday at Dallas Contemporary will have a music angle. Three DJs -- Skrause, DJ-O and The Latin House Krew -- all compete for a chance to perform at Lights All Night, December 30 and 31. If you want to see the contest and have your senses otherwise overloaded, head over to Artopia.

If not, we have a list of other shows worth attending this weekend, starting with the ones we already mentioned this week.

Tonight, Big Sean will be at Granada Theater along with CHYI and Shawn Chrystopher, and in Deep Ellum, Centro-Matic and Spooky Folk will perform. Also, at Lizard Lounge, Israeli DJ Borgore will perform, and the guy from Bad English, John Waite, will be at Grapevine's Glass Cactus. Oh, and The County Fringe will play over at Crooked Tree Coffee House, and at The Green Elephant, Eliot Lipp will do something called dubstep.

On Saturday, Rayland Baxter will perform at All Good Cafe, and Quiet Company, The Blurries, Radiant (for whom I play drums) and Comrade will perform at Dada. Also, Puscifer will be at Majestic Theatre.

And, on Sunday, Rachael Yamagata will be at The Loft.

That's not all: More of this weekend's shows after the jump.
