Death Cab for Cutie to Headline KXT Summer Cut 2014
This morning, 91.7 FM KXT announced the lineup for the third annual installment of Summer Cut, the local radio station's summer music festival at Gexa Energy Pavilion. Given the folkie vibe of last year's bill, which featured the likes of the Avett Brothers and Dawes, the headliners shouldn't come as a huge surprise: Ben Gibbard and his band of folk-tinged indie rockers, Death Cab for Cutie, top off Summer Cut 2k14, which will take place on Friday, August 15. Joining them will be Iron & Wine, the Hold Steady and several others.
Mike Brooks Fans celebrate at Summer Cut, 2013
Death Cab's jangly guitars and literary predilections should be paired nicely with the other bands at the top of the bill, Iron & Wine and the Hold Steady. On the one hand, Sam Beam's
beard folk vehicle has grown ever more lush from its breathy, delicate roots. On the other, Craig Finn will never sing-speak one word where five will suffice.
Together they should strike a nice late-evening balance of freneticism and tranquility. What should be more interesting to discover is how the timing of the show -- moved from its June slot in previous years to the peak of summer -- will play itself out. Gexa in August sounds, well, enticing. (Good thing it'll be Friday night.)
Also appearing at Gexa will be the Oh Hellos, the Wild Feathers, Thao with the Get Down Stay Down and local artists the Unlikely Candidates, the Orbans and Valise. Tickets for the show will go on sale at livenation.com this Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m.
Check back in later with updates on ticket prices.
