The 20 Best Concerts in Dallas This Weekend, March 6-9
Childish Gambino sold out South Side Ballroom a while ago.
Don't even talk to me right now, Dallas. Twenty notable concerts in the next four days? We don't have time for your problems, you need to figure out how to be at Childish Gambino and Bobby Patterson's birthday party at the same time. Oh, you didn't get a ticket to the Conan tapings? Cry me a river. You should be worried about choosing between Oil Boom and Street Arabs this Saturday. The SXSW RSVP you wanted is already closed? Who cares? There are six off-shoot festivals here this weekend. SIX. You've got a whole week before you get to Austin, and I'm going to need y'all to focus.
Thursday, March 6 at Majestic Theatre
Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis will support this Texas country music legend on stage at the Majestic Theatre tonight. After 30 years in the game, Clint Black shows no sign of slowing down. VQ
Remain In Light: A Tribute to Talking Heads
Thursday, March 6, at Dan's Silverleaf
Various session musicians from Dallas, Denton and Los Angeles come together tonight at Dan's to pay tribute to one of the great American new wave albums of the 20th century. While Remain In Light was one of Talking Heads' most commercially disappointing albums, it will widely be remembered as one of their most beloved works. VQ
Thursday, March 6, Dada
It's kind of fuzzy, it's kind of droney, kind of trippy, and the lead singer is only ever seen performing in a knitted fly mask, which makes him look like some sort of insect/human hybrid. All this and more has made Ice Balloons one of the most buzzed about bands of bands of the last year. They've been collaborating a lot with TV on The Radio's Kyp Malone, who will join them at Dada on Thursday. VQ
Thursday, March 6, Three Links
Kevin Seconds is front man for the seminal 80's hardcore band 7 Seconds. This week, he brings his acoustic singer-songwriter solo material to Three Links in support of his new album, Off Stockton. VQ
Friday, March 7, at South Side Music Hall
In December, Childish Gambino released one of the most talked-about albums in independent rap music. Because The Internet got people interested for a variety of reasons. From content, to production, to featured artists, there are plenty of reasons to give it a listen. Perhaps the most intriguing thing about Childish Gambino (whom you may also know as Donald Glover, one of the stars of NBC's Community), is the raw and unmitigated honesty in his lyrics. Presale tickets have already sold out, which is a testament in itself to the rapper's quickly growing fan base. VQ
