From the Snarky Puppy and Lalah Hathaway Grammy Acceptance Speech
The Grammys were last night. Maybe you heard about how the machines are taking over or the flying hair of Taylor Swift.

But the most interesting part of the Grammys is everything that happens outside the five or ten most popular categories. Because that's where people who don't already hog the cover of US Weekly or BuzzFeed's Entertainment homepage get a chance to find some new fans. And last night, Denton-born jazz outfit Snarky Puppy (with Lalah Hathaway) got the fancy walk down the aisle and the golden gramophone for Best R&B Performance. Here's their acceptance speech:

They won for "Something," a song performed on Family Dinner - Volume 1. As SP front man Michael League notes in the speech, the album was designed to benefit the Jefferson Center in Roanoke Virginia. It's a non-profit arts center that works with area kids, giving them music education, recording space and the opportunity to perform with big time musicians.

As the title suggests, the band plans more of these live sessions. You can buy the album (and accompanying DVD) through the Snarky Puppy Bandcamp . The Grammy-winning performance is here:

Congratulations to Snarky Puppy. They may live in New York now, but they'll forever carry the torch for North Texas.
