CHVRCHES' rise has been remarkable. On Friday, the Glaswegian trio made its second 2013 trip to Dallas, this time to the South Side Ballroom. They've packed both shows, a remarkable feat given that their debut album came out in September. But they sound like the moment, loud and synth-based. And wow that live show, aided by the most mesmerizing lights in the business. Photographer Mike Brooks was there, and his view of the evidence follows:

Not in the least, chief.  Instead of naming a dozen bands with superior setups, I'll give you the opportunity to do an ounce of research.

Hmmmm, pretty bold statement that is incredibly subjective. I recall a Massive Attack show at the Palladium a year or two back that was very special indeed. Save hyperbole for Thor Christensen, Manuel Mendoza and Robert Wilonsky.

Kiernan  - On April 18, 2014, Umphrey's McGee is playing House of Blues. I suggest you make the effort to be there. THAT is the best light show going - Jefferson Waful is a lighting savant. He gets more out of the smaller venues than any lighting director out there.

Some might argue Chris Kuroda who is the lighting director for Phish is the best - and Phish does have an unbelievable light set-up - but in either case, both Umphrey's and Phish make Chvches look like they are playing in front of flashlights.
