Update: The Times-Picayune in New Orleans has just reported that Kidd Kradick died of cardiac disease -- information they collected from the preliminary autopsy results of the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office. The investigation into his death is ongoing, but the coroner's office reports no abnormalities.

Original post follows...

Kidd Kraddick, who hosted the Dallas-based, nationally syndicated radio show Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, died yesterday in New Orleans. He was there for a fundraiser golf tournament for his Kidd's Kids charity. Kraddick started the day on the course but felt too ill to get past the first hole. The cause of his death has not been released.

Late last night, Kraddick's publicist released a statement on the Kidd Nation web site:

All of us with YEA Networks and the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader. Kidd devoted his life to making people smile every morning, and for 21 years his foundation has been dedicated to bringing joy to thousands of chronically and terminally ill children.

Kidd passed away today in New Orleans at a golf tournament organized to raise money for his beloved Kidd's Kids charity. He died doing what he loved, and his final day was spent selflessly focused on those special children that meant the world to him.

We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and his colleagues. At the appropriate time, we will release more information about the cause of death.

Kraddick has been on the air in DFW for nearly 30 years. His morning show on Kiss-FM (106.1) was nationally syndicated in 2001. His home radio station also posted a brief message, saying, "All of us at KISS-FM, ClearChannel Dallas, affiliated Clear Channel stations and markets, YEA Networks, and the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader."

The station has been paying tribute to its loudest voice and most visible face since last night -- right now they're taking calls from listeners. As I type this, they're playing "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans. Listen here.

I'm not in his target demographic but the man definitely had talent and his charity work speaks for itself. My wife was a regular listener and thought the world of him. May his memory be eternal.

Brings back memories of another beloved Dallas DJ that left us way too early - John Labella...

I wonder if Russ Martin threw a big party when he heard the news? I only gave his radio show a few listens even before I signed up for Satellite Radio and Howard Stern. I know he did some good things for charity and condolences to the family.

Flabbergasting news.  I was never a big fan, and never really followed his show, but even from a distance, it was obvious he was an institution here, which is a tremendous accomplishment in a large media market that often values change and the 'next big thing' to longstanding, established personalities.  Also, as Kraddick died still in his prime, there is an almost tragic sense of what might have been, a feeling of being denied many more years of his presence.  Condolences are in order to his family, friends, co-workers and fans.

How unfortunate! I started listening to the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show when I moved to Phoenix in 2002. Stayed with him when I moved to Texas. This was my guilty pleasure in the mornings on my way to work in Dallas. When everyone else talked about what happened on other shows I couldn't participate because I was listening to the morning crew. He will be missed. God bless his family, especially his daughter, and colleagues during this time.

Definitely looking forward to everything coming out about his death. Never been a fan of his show, though it was extremely boring.

You know you grew up in Dallas when you use to listen to him everyday on the way to school.

I am sure this man touched a lot of the lives of the people posting here, but there was a side to this man that very few knew. The truth will come out because I am a voice that will not be silenced by his PR staff or family. His death was a direct result of a nasty cocaine habit. He had a dark side that his PR staff is fighting fervently to hide. For every 10-15 kids he helped over the years, there was 1 who he hurt.

Shocking and sad.  He was much too young to die.  Some wire services say it was a brain aneurysm.  RIP

Kidd and his staff did so much for children. My son Matthew had a great experience as the guitarist at the 2011 Kidd Kraddick Rock Camp. Kidd was so supportive and encouraging to all of the young musicians, and provided them with the opportunity to meet and perform with celebrities. Matthew's band performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas last week and Kidd's producer came to show their support. We'll miss him and we'll always appreciate what he did for us.

@bplaney Yeah, when I heard about Kraddick I thought of Labella too.  He was about the same age and suffered a sad and rather freakish end.

Really??  What a horrible statement and in such poor taste.  You are a very unhappy person.  Wow!

@bifftannen good riddance? seriously? You're so entitled that you have to comment like that when someone dies? Someone that gave countless terminally ill children the time of their lives? Fuck you Fuck you Fuck you. You're fucking pitiful.

"He had a dark side that his PR staff is fighting fervently to hide. For every 10-15 kids he helped over the years, there was 1 who he hurt."  What in the hell is that supposed to mean?

@Jericho Lundley  He died from cardiac disease. Why purposely bash someone on a site where people are leaving condolences?
