Word came today that Clear Channel has laid off KDGE-102.1 FM's Josh Venable (again), and KHKS-106.1 Kiss FM's Adrian Hummel and Michael Blake (Kidd Kraddick). This marks another wave off lay-offs, which started at Clear Channel back in 2009, and adds to the chimney-sweeping that's happened at other Dallas radio stations this year.

Update 5:20p.m.: We reached out to Venable, who had this to say: "It feels weird to home at 5 in the afternoon. I'm probably going to sit on the couch and watch Bond blu-rays, like I probably did the last time this happened to me.

"But if you take one thing away from [this call], it's that I cannot put into words how much I appreciate the support over the last 20 years. That there are people who have Adventure Club tattoos is unfathomable. I've heard from people who listened to the show every week, who never missed a show. People who met their significant others via the show. People who said I shaped their lives by the music I played. I appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart. Or the heart of my bottom."

i think Josh should just go the "Tom Leykis" route and start a internet rock station for just this market to compete with The Edge, The Eagle and Lonestat 92.5. Clear Channel has a rock monopoly in this market and CBS, Cumulus, Radio One, and all other companies that own local stations in this market are scare to launch a rock station in this market to challenge the Clear Channel 3, Cumulus/Susquehanna tried and failed at competing with Clear Channel 3 (and at one point the Clear Channel 2 before 97.1 became The Eagle again) with 93.3 The Bone and it fail because 93.3 doesn't come in in more places that the clear channel 3 did came in, like my home in Campbell. now would be the best time for Cumulus to blow up ether 99.5 The Wolf or 96.3 KSCS to launch a new rock station to compete with the Clear Channel 3 and play what they won't play. but ti won't happen as long as Cumulus enjoys the Country music monopoly they gained from via the Citadel buyout.

Clear Channel is nothing but a bully organization designed to perpetuate mediocre music, censor political opinions from those with opposing viewpoints, & a bad memory from the tactics used during the Bush campaign.  In essence, they are worms.
