The Sea and Cake
The Sea and Cake
Thursday, November 15, at Trees, $13/$16

Chicago's electro-jazz group The Sea and Cake has been around, in many forms, since the mid-'90s. The band just released its airy, tenth LP, Runner, a companion album to its 2011 release, The Moonlight Butterfly. The album's single, "Harps," focuses more on the band's tendency to gravitate toward ambient, electronic sounds these days, ditching the super-danceable tracks of their past. The Fiery Furnaces' Matt Friedberger and locals the Cush open.

England in 1819, My Wooden Leg, Chasse
Monday, November 12, at The Prophet Bar, $5/$10

Father Liam Calloway and his two sons, Dan and Andrew, forge the trio that make up ethereal English rock band England in 1819. The band hones an experimental sound that can be heard on their latest full-length, Alma. See them with DOMA nominees My Wooden Leg, a self-labeled "gypsytronic" rock band, and local opener Chasse.

Cold Specks, Doug Burr
Tuesday, November 13, at Dan's Silverleaf, $12/$15

Canadian singer-songwriter Al Spx just released her debut album on Mute Records, I Predict a Graceful Expulsion, featuring her gothic take on soul music and deep Southern gospel. See her with local opener Doug Burr, who has not yet launched a full tour since his March release, Trembling Lips and Pale Fingertips.

Future Islands, Talk Normal
Tuesday, November 13, at The Prophet Bar, $12/$14

Baltimore's synth-pop trio Future Islands recently released a limited run of their seven-inch single, "Tomorrow," part of their Less Artists More Condos seven-inch series. On tour with Future Islands is Brooklyn no wave group Talk Normal, who released their new album, Sunshine, last month.

The Twilight Sad, Errors, The Calm Blue Sea
Wednesday, November 14, at Dada, $12-$14

Scotland's post-punk group The Twilight Sad and heavy synth/guitar/drum trio Errors are on tour this winter, and will be making a stop at Dada. Errors drew some attention to their experimental outfit at South By Southwest last year, and just dropped their latest album, New Relics, last week. Austin's The Calm Blue Sea opens.
