Psychic Ills' Tres Warren Wants The Night Tripper If He's Stranded

Nice hat.
Thanks to a good number of young acts that have stumbled upon Roky Erickson vinyl, psych music is hardly on the fringe anymore. Experimental music has also never quite receded from view, whether it's the danceable math-rock of Battles or the constantly evolving non-radio friendliness of Radiohead.

A band that's certainly handling the double duty of being psychedelically experimental is New York's Psychic Ills. The quintet's third full-length album, Hazed Dream, is as appropriately entitled as an album can be. For this 35 Denton edition of Desert Island Disc, we asked Psychic Ills vocalist Tres Warren what album he would like to be stuck with, should he find himself in extreme, decidedly non-groovy isolation. Catch them at 12:30 a.m., Friday, March 9, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios.

If given only one album to be stranded on a desert island with, which one would it be?
Dr. John (The Night Tripper), Gris-Gris.

Why that specific album?
I think it'd put me in the right place for that situation.

What's your favorite song on the record?
"I Walk On Guilded Splinters."

When did you first hear the record?
I got into it about 10 years ago and I keep coming back to it.

What does picking that record say about you?
"Some people think they jive me/But I know they must be crazy."
