Watch the Video for School of Seven Bells' "Lafaye"
It's a big day for School of Seven Bells. The band's third and most industrial-influenced album, Ghostory, is released today. The band, located in New York, was formed when longtime Dallas musician Benjamin Curtis (UFOFU, Tripping Daisy, Captain Audio) was on tour with his band Secret Machines, opening for Interpol. One of the other opening acts on that tour, On!Air!Library!, featured the vocals of twin sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza.
The three got together and formed School of Seven Bells, but after the release of their second album, Disconnect From Desire, Claudia unexpectedly left the group. It's hard to say if her departure impacted the band's sound. The huge choruses are still intact, and is Curtis' crystal clear production.
Another element that has followed the band since its inception is great videos. Thanks to Dallas director Toby Halbrooks, who has shot several videos for the band with David Lowery, they've got another good one to share. Even more interesting: The video was filmed in "an old mansion being renovated deep in Oak Cliff," said Halbrooks via Facebook chat today.
Turns out he has got a few more video concepts he's planning. He wouldn't say much about his next project, but he did seem excited about it. "I think it's our best idea yet," he wrote, "and the artist is amazing."
