St. Vincent
This is the weekend of St. Vincent.

In fact, someone ought to make it a local holiday because it's going to be pretty difficult to escape the songstress over the next few days. She's set to perform in town three different times.

On Saturday and Sunday night, she'll perform two sold-out shows at The Kessler Theater. And, on Sunday afternoon, she'll be at Good Records for a free, in-store performance at 3 p.m.

Good luck getting into any of those shows.

If you'd rather try your luck elsewhere, there are plenty of great shows this weekend, starting with the ones we've already mentioned.

Tonight, Slobberbone will perform over at The Kessler, and Ishi, Burning Hotels, Roy Robertson, and Ethereal and the Queer Show will be at Hailey's Club in Denton. Also, 45 Fest will happen at Dada in Deep Ellum, and Ryan Thomas Becker and Last Joke will celebrate the release of their record at Dan's Silverleaf. Oh, and who can forget Beats Antique at Trees?

Tomorrow night, Battles will be at The Granada Theater with Nisennenmondai and Yeahdef. Over at the Loft, The Drums will perform. Also, Loudon Wainwright III and Mary Chapin Carpenter will be at the Allen Event Center.

On Sunday night, Bush and Chevelle will be at Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, and Manchester Orchestra, White Denim, and The Dear Hunter will be at Palladium Ballroom.

Hit the jump for more of this weekend's shows.

Ben Rector
Friday, October 21, at House Of Blues

Rector comes from a slicked-up, Nashville music background. He's one of these songwriters who's won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest -- him for his song "The Conversation." Seems like every few minutes or so, someone's winning won of those, but if that's what you're into, check out Ben Rector at House of Blues tonight.

Glen Farris
Friday, October 21, at The Belmont Hotel

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum from Ben Rector, Glen Farris comes in with gritty folk-based country. His musical style doesn't fall too far from Doug Burr's, a local folk artist Farris regularly accompanies on the piano. Like Burr, Farris' solo shows are intimate and fun as well.

Stardeath and White Dwarfs, Epic Ruins, Skeleton Coast
Friday, October 21, at Where House

This is easily the biggest show that fellow blog Subservient Experiment has ever put on. Oklahoma's Stardeath and White Dwarfs, the lead singer of which is a direct relative of The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, have a psychedelic sound reminiscent of early- to mid-'90s psych pop.

Vinyl Fantasy
Friday, October 21, at Inwood Lounge

From the Vinyl Fantasy Facebook invite: "So you should come hear DJ Emptycylinder and DJ Business Casual spin the most colossal jamz ever committed to vinyl...by wizards, probably. How else to explain music existing on a circle? Overlook our lack of technological knowledge and come hang out this Friday the 21st at Inwood Lounge."

Warbeast, Hillbilly Orchestra, Belief System, Rabid Flesh Eaters
Friday, October 21, at The Rail Club

If you happened to be at the Dallas Observer Music Award ceremony at House of Blues on Tuesday, you saw Warbeast pick up their award for Best Metal Act. They were the scary, professional-wrestler-looking dudes. They're also a group of guys from well-respected, old-school thrash metal bands around these parts. If you feel like driving to Fort Worth, you should check 'em out.

Ronnie Dunn
Saturday, October 22, Billy Bob's Texas

Brooks and Dunn split, y'all. Now it's just Dunn. Doesn't have the same ring to it.

... and that's it from us. Have a good weekend, and we'll see you back here on Monday.

pretentious commenting at its worst

I know what you mean
I know what you mean

Like when she did that live cover of Big Black's "Bad Penny," with the line, "I fucked your girlfriend once - maybe twice, I don't remember."  Pretentious art-rock at its worst.
